Chapter Seven

Elias stood in the middle of his living room, a puzzled frown on his face as he listened to the loud voice ranting on speaker from his cellphone.

“Jack, slow down! What did you just say Violet did?!” He asked suddenly, his heart pounding in his ears.

“I said, your loser wife bought an eighty million dollar property and completely humiliated me!” Jack sounded furious, "What the hell man?! Can’t you even keep your wife in check…”

Elias was no longer listening to him.

At the mention of those words, even Bianca and Evelyn had rushed into the room. Bianca had been in a foul mood all day because she had to take care of Theo, who was actually a brat, and Evelyn, who was demanding and insufferable.

She wondered how Violet had been doing it for years without complaint, and cursed her for leaving her to this fate.

Her relationship with Evelyn had been strained as Evelyn saw she was not as compliant as Violet, and Bianca thought Evelyn was an insufferable, old woman.

Then, Elias returned home from work, and had a call. Because Jack had been repeatedly shouting in his ears, he’d placed in on speaker phone and kept it on the table.

So the entire house had heard the announcement.

“Where did she get such money from?!” Evelyn screeched in disbelief, her hands trembling as the amount danced in her head.

Eighty million dollars?! And a property worth that?!

“How am I supposed to know?!” Jack shot back at them, “Your wife has probably been keeping a rich man on the side all these years, you clueless fool! I swear, I will pay her back…”

“Send me the property details at once!” Elias answered, his eyes almost bulging out of his head, “Where the hell is that bitch now?!”

“She bought the RoseHaven property! It’s hers now!” Jack’s voice was filled with bitterness.

He could still not get over the embarrassment he’d felt when his card had declined, and Violet had shamed him. Worse, his sugar mummy had broken up with him, dumping him for another younger, more handsome man. She’d not even thought to warn him first before cutting off his card.

Jack was in misery.

“I swear, Elias, I won’t let your wife get away with thi..!”

Elias cut the call, his hands trembling with excitement.

Bianca grabbed his arm, “Is it true?! Did Violet buy the Rosehaven for eighty million?! How did she get so much money?! Is she some sort of secret heiress that we knew nothing about?!”

“That little bitch has deceived us all along!” Evelyn was fuming, “She was this rich and she kept it from us. What an ungrateful, vicious woman!”

Elias was silent. He was thinking but his eyes were wide with excitement and greed.

His wife had just purchased the most coveted property in their district.

But where had she gotten the money?

Jack’s words floated to him once more. Had Violet really gotten a rich man on the side that was sponsoring her? She was cheating on him?!

How dare she?! No wonder she was so eager to divorce him and leave with nothing! She wanted to run off with her rich lover!

Jealousy burned through him. His fists clenched with such fury that his knuckles turned white.

“That little bitch! How dare she cheat on me?! After everything I gave her! What a shameless slut!”

Elias had completely forgotten that he was also a cheat himself, and had even brought his mistress into his matrimonial home.

“Elias, you should sue her!” Evelyn cried out, her old features becoming more gnarly, “She deceived you throughout your marriage, hiding her assets from you. You can’t just let it go.”

“Yes, Elias!” Bianca chimed in, “She cheated on you and still hid her fortune from you! She does not love you! You must pay her back!”

“Those assets are supposed to be yours.” Evelyn said in distress, “Eighty million! Oh…”

She threw herself down on the couch dramatically, moaning in dismay as the numbers danced in her head.

That useless Violet had spent all that money on a house! How foolish!

Evelyn could not help but think about the lavish lifestyle she would live once she had her hands on that kind of money. She would be a literal queen and everyone in the community would be beneath her feet!

Bianca has the same thought.

If they could sue Violet and get back the asset which she hid from them during marriage, she would live in luxury as a rich wife.

She’d have Elias to herself, millions in her account and even get a nanny for that brat, Theo!

Their words seem to stir something in Elias, suppressing his anger and fueling his greed at the same time.

God, if he had that eighty million, he would never have to work again in his life!

He could get everything that Bianca wanted for her, and if Violet behaved well, he could take her back.

Then, he would live in luxury like a king.

They were all so hyped up over the eighty million that one would have to wonder what they would do if they knew the true amount of Violet’s wealth.

They’d probably faint from the news.

Elias quickly called up a lawyer friend who quickly assured him that he’d get everything under control.

“If she really had those assets when you were married and failed to disclose it, then you can actually contest for it,” The lawyer uttered, “The state does not condone fraud in marriage.”

This news made all three of them so happy and they immediately started dreaming about how to spend the money.

Then, Evelyn slapped her thigh in fury once more, “Wait, why do we have to sit here and wait for her to be served papers?! Let’s go see that shameless, ungrateful wench with our eyes!”

Bianca and Elias agreed immediately.

They were all eager to go to the Rosehaven property. It was a place that ordinary people like them could only dream to enter.

Most especially Evelyn.

The original owner of the estate had been the mother of the top celebrity who’d once lived there, then went into decline. She had been classmates with Evelyn and had always looked down on Evelyn any time they came across each other in the estate.

When the classmate’s son, the celebrity, was hit by a scandal, Evelyn was overjoyed.

And now her shameless daughter-in-law was living there. Evelyn could not wait to put Violet in her place and take over the mansion and property.

They drove to the Rosehaven Estate on the outskirts of Willow district, and stood in awe at the mighty fortress before them.

Envy filled Bianca’s eyes.

Did Violet really buy this majestic place? That loser?!

Elias was stunned by the awesomeness of the property before him.

Why does Violet get to have this much money and luxury? He’d thought she’d come crawling back to him after living in abject poverty.

But who knew she’d have the gut to prepare everything in advance with her rich lover and deceive him with divorce?!

His teeth clenched hard as his old anger returned.

He would show her that he wasn’t to be trifled with.

They advanced towards the heavy wrought iron gates. There was absolutely no way to get inside. The walls around them were all high and fortified as well. They could not even think of climbing over it.

It was clear that you had to be let in from within.

They stood helplessly before the gates for a few minutes, when something on the wall caught Evelyn’s eyes.

“Look! Here’s the intercom!” Evelyn suddenly uttered, pointing excitedly at a panel on the wall, “Quick! Press it. Get that bitch out here!”
