“No… How could this be…”
Evie was in a panic. She raised a hand to slap herself hard.
Pain…
Even her vision blurred a little when she hit herself. Regardless that she did not wish to be where she was, she could not fool herself that everything was just a dream. She was really there, in Evely’s world, occupying Evely’s body. Also, time really did turn back.
She could remember seeing this place not just from Evely’s memories but hers as well. She had seen this place in the mirror when her celestial twin was kidnapped.
Evely was having her usual milk tea at the café when she suddenly felt dizzy and lost consciousness. She woke up in this place with the kidnappers trying to open the buttons of her blouse and she put up a fight. Uncannily strong, Evely easily fought her captors off even under the influence of the drug. If it weren’t for someone hitting her hard on the head, she would have been able to leave the place.
The kidnappers buried her and left her there to die. But the original Evely was able to wake up and go home, although it was already very late. Her furious and worried father welcomed her, but her defiant stance sparked an argument between them.
Evie recalled the first shard of memory she had seen of Evely’s. Yes, it was that argument up the stairs when Evely said that she hoped she’d anger her father to death. But it was only because Evely thought her father did not care and was biased towards his new wife. It was this event that truly intensified Evely’s hatred for her stepmother, thinking that it was her who had her kidnapped. But that was wrong.
So…
Evie decided to push her worries away and focus on the present. At the moment she was still in that abandoned place where the kidnappers brought her. Apparently, she just came out of the grave, but it seemed something different happened and her captors were still in the vicinity.
She turned her attention back to the five men who remained frozen as they watched her in fear, and her eyes narrowed. If they were just small time thugs who did this for the first time, she would not care about them. But these familiar faces…
Hmmm…
An evil smile appeared on her face. Since she had smudged gothic makeup on, the smile made her appear more sinister, making the men tremble.
“We apologize. We apologize. It’s our first time doing this. We will never do it again.”
“Oh?” Evie snorted.
Although Evely’s kidnapping was their first, since they were able to get away with it in the original Evely’s life, they had gotten a kick of doing it as their business. Also, these men encountered and kidnapped Evely again when she was supposed to meet her real fiancé two years from now. Since then, the man did not care about Evely which made it a lot easier for those vile people to control her.
“Y-Yes! Yes Boss! We promise!”
But of course, Evie was not really interested in their promises. The moment she had seen them and realized who they were, their fates had been sealed.
“Who cares about your promises?” she asked just as the aura surrounding her turned oppressive, and the men subconsciously huddled together.
“Since you like burying people a lot, I’ll help you experience it.” Evie smirked as she lifted her foot and slammed it on the ground.
BOOM!
The spot where her foot hit created cracks that snaked towards the men, and the ground beneath them caved in. The crater was actually deeper than the hole they put her in. The men did not even have time to scream when she stomped her foot a second time, and the earth closed. Whether they died on the spot or would be able to crawl out later like the original Evely did, it was no longer Evie’s problem.
She did not kill them directly because they did not kill the original Evely. Whether they survive being buried alive or not, it would depend on their luck. As for her, it’s just a matter of “an eye for an eye”. Both she and Evely had suffered tremendously in their lives and died tragically. Now that she’s in the position to avenge and put her celestial twin’s life back into its original path, she would do it. It would also help her kill time as she tried to find out more about what’s going on.
The distorted space that brought her there was definitely a demon gate— a superior one. If she was not mistaken, it was also the very same gate whose master killed her and that person.
“Andrew…” she whispered into the night as she began to walk towards the noise and the lights far ahead.
Andrew was her loyal guard. He perished together with her.
“Why….”
Why was she the only one who got to return? This was what she wanted to ask out loud, but did not dare finish. If she did, she feared she would dwell more on the fact that she was alone in that world.
She stopped walking to calm the panic that was starting to come. She closed her eyes and took deep breaths.
There was no use in asking questions that nobody could answer even herself. She had to prioritize how she would live her new life first. She had memories of this world and she had Evely’s memories as well. There would not be any huge problems assimilating into this world. But she had to admit that her confidence was not much. Based on Evely’s memories and the things she observed from the mirror, this world was filled with only humans. As a celestial being, she would need a lot of control to successfully pretend to be one of the mortals.
There’s a huge part of her that told her that the best way to live was to pretend to be human. She had to refrain from using her divine inheritance. Besides…
A huge wave of fatigue washed over her and she nearly slumped on the ground. She had used a little of what’s left of her powers earlier to bury the kidnappers. She had exhausted her divine inheritance when she fought the demon gate master, and was now mostly depleted. It was a good thing that she had already reached the main road. She just had to find someone to ask for directions to Hampton Hills where Evely lived.
Ah, but she was too tired, she complained in her head, but her legs did not stop walking. She traversed the road as she looked ahead, trying to see anything that’s familiar. She waited for people to pass by too, but it seemed it was already too late for others to be still outside.
She was dreading the long walk ahead when there was a sound behind her. Evie turned, only to flinch when the glaring light met her eyes. She immediately raised her arm to block her eyes when something long glided towards her, and the light dimmed a bit. When she took a look, her eyes widened upon seeing a sleek, black, metal carriage that she’d seen in the mirror before.
She was appreciating how nice it looked when its window rolled down, revealing a handsome face of a young man. He looked like a young noble, but at the same time had a wild characteristic to him. The red diamond in his ear made him look friendly and approachable.
Evie took a step back.
“Hey, it’s already late at night. Where are you going?” he asked.
Evie found his face familiar, but could not place him in her or Evely’s memory. One thing was for sure, though: She could not feel any malice in his aura, and so she thought she could talk to him.
“I’m going home,” she answered, and the man nodded before he moved further into the seat, and the door opened.
“Come on!”
Evie was confused when he signaled to her.
“Get in! I’ll take you home. It’s already very late. Uncle must be worried about you,” he said as he literally reached out and dragged her into the car and made her sit next to him.
As soon as he said uncle, Evie finally realized who the young man must be. He was probably Evely’s neighbor.
“Hi! Is Kyle Simmons here? I’m his cousin. He said he will help us look around.”Richard asked in a very friendly manner, and Wilson returned his smile.“You’re Richard?” he asked back, and when the other nodded, he pointed at the seats next to the booth. “Kyle already told us about you the other day. Just sit there and wait a bit. He will be here in a while.”“Thanks,” Richard said, and the three followed his invitation and sat on the plastic chairs on the side.Wilson returned to his group and helped them attach photos of the different places the club members had been to.Actually, Kyle, Richard’s cousin, was not a member of the hiking club. He’s a member of the urban exploration team. But since the number of people were not many, and the members of the hiker’s club weren’t a lot as well, their club and the Hikers’ Club shared a booth. It was such a coincidence, but a very good coincidence on their part. The three sat quietly as they watched the people get busy. They did not offer h
“Boss, you’re here…”Evie turned to her side where the pedestrian entrance to the university was and saw both Richard and James standing there, as if waiting.“Why are you guys still there? Why didn’t you go in?”“We want to wait for you here,” they answered plainly. She was perplexed. She didn’t know what to say. She clearly didn’t want them to suffer for her, but they were just too cute and acted like her real lackeys. She didn’t know why she deserved such treatment, though. She could not really remember their past interactions, and she doubted if that gloomy Evely treated them correctly.“Fine, let’s go inside, then,” she said, and all three of them went to the gate.Altair University was not as strict to its students. They could go in and out anytime they wanted using their passes. However, not just anybody could enter the school on normal days. One had to be a student, a faculty member, or staff at the school in order to enter.Today, however, was a special day. It’s an open scho
“Miss, the car is ready.”Evie looked up from her empty plate and saw Bernard standing a few steps away, looking regal as always. These days, she felt like a spoiled princess since the butler and all the servants took good care of her impeccably. Most often than not, before she even opened her mouth to ask for something, it’s either already prepared or already done.Bernard was really true to his title as the number one steward in Altair. He could anticipate well what his employers needed and prepared them in advance. If Evie was not sure that he was a hundred percent mortal, she would think he had an “all seeing eye”. It was a power similar to Dolya’s that could foresee the future.“Then I will go now,” she said as she picked up her bag and walked towards the entrance.Last night, she asked Bernard for directions to Altair University. Evely had never been there, as she had no memory of how to go to that school. She just knew that it was not that far from Altair City High School. But
Hazel was indignant. “Why do you talk as if you know anything? You were not there. What do you know?”Wil raised a brow at her.“Don’t deny it. You know that Eric’s brother is in your school and he saw everything.”Eric Wales was Wilson’s best friend and classmate. His younger brother was a year younger than Hazel and also attended Altair City High School. Since the incident happened at the cafeteria at lunch time, it was totally possible that her actions were witnessed by the boy.Hazel’s eyes turned glum. She was very upset with her brother and herself.“What exactly happened?”This time, Hazel had no choice but to confess. She was arrogant, but only in the premise that her powerful family had her back. But if she’s in the wrong, although they would side with her in the presence of other people, they would never let her off in private.“You did that?”Her parents looked visibly disappointed. Hazel knew that since returning to Altair and “changing” her personality, her parents had b
That same night, in a different part of the city, another soul was restless. Hazel Trent had been in her room since she returned from school. She had been in a bad mood since the incident at the cafeteria, and then her confrontation with her so-called friends in their classroom.“Hmph! What friends!”Hazel had been incensed since the group of people who went to the cafeteria with her had turned their backs on her.Traitors!Well, technically, they did not betray her at all. They just suddenly woke up from the trance of unreasonableness that had fogged their brains. In fact, even if they realized that Hazel had egged them on so they would tag along in intimidating Evely Hunt and get scolded by Hanz, they never blamed her, and had advised her not to do it anymore. There was no sense in antagonizing Evely Hunt, since the girl did not do anything bad to them, nor as they said, did she start any of the fights she had, even before. Also, in the week since class had started, the student hadn
“Of course not,” James hastily denied, making the others laugh again.“Hey Hanz, where do you plan to study next? Have you chosen your university?” Richard asked.“Altair University, of course,” he answered swiftly. “I’ll be going there tomorrow, by the way. They have an open school.”James, Richard, and Evie exchanged glances.“What’s going on?”“Nothing. We’re planning to go there too in the morning,” Evie answered. The open school would open at nine in the morning. Evie and the others planned to go there at the opening time or at least she was going to suggest they went there at the opening time before they were interrupted by the crazy group earlier. Most students arrived around an hour before lunch break onwards. Not many students went around the opening time.“Really? Let’s all go together then,” Hanz invited and the others agreed.Evie planned to rope Hanz in her group anyway since he looked like he would be hanging out with them a lot. As for James and Richard, they didn’t min
