CHAPTER 9: EXECUTIVES MEETING

last update Veröffentlichungsdatum: 20.05.2026 18:07:56

ETHAN

The company was as I had remembered it to be.

Peaceful. Elegant. Tense.

Everyone worked agilely with no sense of dawdling.

Even the most ordinary worker was someone with a postgraduate degree. They were all experienced and vibrant.

They bowed slightly when they saw my father, and none of them acted too surprised at my presence.

My father also replied to them calmly and led me toward the exclusive elevator, which lifted us to his office.

Following the rich chime of the elevator, we stepped out, and my eyes widened subtly when I saw the rows of officials waiting for us in the long hall.

They were mostly old men and women with a few younger ones among them.

They greeted my father with respect and paved the way for him.

"Thank you, everyone." My father laughed as he pulled me with him, dragging me toward the conference room.

I raised a brow at him.

He grinned at me. "I needed to announce your arrival in the company." He whispered back.

My head suddenly started aching.

Didn't we plan that I would start from somewhere manageable? Why was he putting me in the limelight instead?

I rubbed my thumbs together. Why hadn't I expected this?

This was my father we were talking about. The man who wouldn't mind placing my name on his forehead to announce to the world that I was his son.

I clicked my tongue and followed to sit beside him.

The smile on his face deepened at my action.

The numerous officials also entered and took their seats.

I could feel their curious gazes on me.

Though many knew I was Ethan George, the only son of Arthur George, they also knew I was a lazy bum born with the breeding constitution and expected to marry into another family in the future.

Most people would have never expected me to show up now. Especially when my father was still so young and strong.

I could understand their curiosity. But it didn't matter.

This was the same mentality I had followed back then. As someone born with the female constitution of breeding, I lived my life as someone who was only meant to marry and live for my husband.

But that was in the past. Things were different now.

My father cleared his throat to attract everyone's attention and momentarily freed me from the uncomfortable gazes.

"This is my son, Ethan George. From now on, he's resuming in the office." His announcement or introduction was as ordinary as it could be.

It left the officials surprised.

The doubts in their eyes evident.

My father waved his hand impatiently. "He's not taking over just yet. He's working as my secretary for a while to know and learn more. After that, I will directly retire behind the screen and hand over the group to him." He paused and looked at every member of the officials. "Any objection?" Everyone was quiet.

But my mind wasn't.

Secretary? Didn't we plan on... I bit my tongue and abruptly stopped myself.

This was good, too.

Starting as his secretary would make things easier for me, and I could also make use of the power to see Leander again.

A smile appeared on my face.

The meeting continued for an hour longer, and soon, everyone dispersed.

When the door closed, leaving my father and me behind, I turned to face him, and a feigned anger showed on my face. "Secretary?"

He chuckled awkwardly. "Don't worry. I have my assistants and secretary already. You just have to follow them and learn from them for a few months, and you'd be good."

My lips twitched. "You are really eager to drop the pies on me."

"No. No. Don't think that way, son. I..."

I sneered and turned my head away.

Right then, my phone buzzed with a message.

I picked up the phone to check. My expression cooled when I realized it was a message from Vesper.

I ignored it and dropped the phone back. The phone had barely touched the table when it began ringing.

Checking, I realized it was still Vesper. I closed my eyes to suppress my anger and clenched the phone tight.

"The bastard?" My father asked.

"Hm."

"Do you need me to send some men to cripple him. Just crippling, I promise."

My eyes flickered. "Anyone would think we work with the Mafia." My mood lightened a bit.

My father scoffed. "Dad doesn't mind collaborating with the mafia, you know?"

I rolled my eyes and answered the call. Perhaps it was the confidence of having my father right beside me, or it was the comfort that came with his teasing, but I was able to place the phone to my ear and wait for Vesper to speak.

"Baby? Are you there?" Vesper's frantic voice rang in my ears.

My stomach churned with disgust. "Hm."

"Baby, where are you? Where did you go last night? Are you okay?" He paused.

"Wait, send me your address, and I'll come to pick you up."

A frown formed on my face. Pick me up?

I wasn't certain I wouldn't mistakenly kill him instead.

"No..."

"Baby, we need to visit my father. Remember what he promised to give me after marriage? Let's go together to claim it."

My words immediately died in my throat. I swallowed and briefly glanced at the reminder on my wrist, which could only be seen by me. My expression calmed. "Okay."

"Let's go tomorrow. I will return home in the evening." I replied.

"Really? Where are you right now? Your parents'? Do you need me to come? I miss you, ba..."

I ended the call and dropped the phone.

"I still want to kill him." My father mumbled under his breath.

I shook my head and smiled. "No, I need him alive. He could make me see Leander faster."

"Huh?" My father looked confused.

I chuckled and rubbed my chin. "I promised I'd live longer."

ETHANI had been too naive. Nick had been a hidden snake in my past life, someone who kept a stable facade in front of me till the last moment. It made me forget he was an actor, a veteran actor at that. I held my stomach and laughed loudly. Naive. I really had been too naive. Why was I feeling reluctant to ruin him earlier? Why was I feeling uncomfortable watching him cry when he was being humiliated by the director and producer?Stupid. I was really stupid and dumb. This person... this best friend was a murderer, and he didn't only kill a person. He owed me two lives! Two fucking lives! My veins grew, and anger surged within me. The murmurs in the hall had silenced, or maybe I just couldn't hear them anymore. Stepping closer to Nick, I raised my hand to slap him back.... He flinched, eyes staring at me as if he'd been expecting the slap. Just when my palm was close to his cheek, I abruptly stopped and took a step back. "Acting, huh?" My voice was low with anger. "I see you r

ETHANAfter Nick finished the audition, the room quietened, and without wasting Nick's time, the producer decided to speak up. He gestured for him to get off the stage while ordering that no one was to enter the room for a while. Nick's face lit up. He stepped down the stage really quickly, winking at me. He walked toward the producer and the director. The director raised the script, opening it to the second page. The thick paper made a rustling sound in the room, and for a moment, my eyes stayed glued to it. Yes, this would be my first-ever active attack in this life. However, it wasn't enough. It was merely the beginning. Nick's lips trembled as he also stared at the script. The director cleared his throat. "Mr Nick, right?" Nick nodded frantically. Losing his cool was a rare sight, even for me as his close friend. "Yes. Yes. I'm Nick. Teacher, please, go on."I felt the urge to laugh out loud. Who calls their director a teacher? Well, perhaps that was the way of the entertai

  • REBORN TO WIN: Father-in-law, Keep Me Alive.    CHAPTER 38: AUDITION

ETHAN The thought finally brought a genuine smile to my face, and my earlier weariness dissipated. Though it was dangerous and might leave me sick in the stomach every day, it was still a good move at the moment. Fighting with someone as experienced as Vesper and Nick, attacking them head-on might backfire, too. Especially with Nick being an actor and being able to control public opinion. I wouldn't want to fall into their trap. No, in this life, they could only be the ones to suffer. I couldn't, and I wouldn't suffer. I watched patiently as the people walked in and out, auditioning, thanking the judges, and leaving their names as they filed out of the room. Soon, someone stepped in. A familiar actor. My brows creased. This was Raviel, Nick's ultimate rival in the future. The two were always fighting over an award or drama. Honestly, Raviel was more of an actor than Nick, and he was even more good-looking, but because Nick had the support of my family and Vesper's, Raviel wa

  • REBORN TO WIN: Father-in-law, Keep Me Alive.    CHAPTER 37: CONFUSION

ETHANMy butt grew hot on Leander's lap. Embarrassment crept to my cheeks, turning them red and burning. My eyes wavered. Leander's eyes remained narrowed, his emotions unreadable, and his hand on my waist tightened. "What are you doing?" His voice was etched with warning. My chest heaved, on the verge of an explosion. Forcing myself to look back into those profound and unreadable eyes, my fingers curled, and my stomach lurched. I swallowed an imaginary lump in my throat and forced a smile. However, I had no idea what I really felt inwardly. I was wrong. Leander didn't love me...The realization should make me happy, right?"I was testing the ground. We are doing something deeper tomorrow, aren't we?" I tried to sound as composed as I could. "By the way, we've also done it yesterday. Why are you so rigid?" With that, I stood up, laughed awkwardly, and began arranging my suit. Leander was silent. With my back turned to him, I had no idea what his expression was or what was g

ETHANLeander's eyes flicked over me. He averted his gaze and pressed his thumb to his forehead... "Is that why you're here?" He sounded almost detached. I nodded. Despite knowing he wouldn't see. "No." He replied. I expected that. I covered my mouth and chuckled. "What do I have to do?" Leander raised his eyes. "Nothing." My lips pursed. He was really stubborn. Standing up, I approached him and stood behind him. My fingers trailed from the back of his head to his temples, slowly pressing gently. Leander gripped my right hand. He raised his head to look into my eyes. His blue eyes stared into mine. Unreadable. Almost indifferent. "Don't." He warned. I stared back, resisting the urge to back off. "I want to." My lips curled. "You have a headache, don't you? Let me give you a warm massage." I offered. Leander's fingers tightened against mine. An unknown emotion flashed across his eyes for a moment. His lips pressed into a thin line. "I don't need it." His voice was low. Al

ETHANOnly when I got inside did I remember that it was my first time coming to the office in this new life. In my past life, I had visited Leander in the office several times for different reasons. But in this life, I hadn't. I recently married his son, and before marriage, we weren't exactly that close. Even if we were, I wouldn't visit him in the office without a proper reason. After going through different stops, I finally sat in the assistant's office, waiting for him to finish his meeting. His assistant only glanced at me once before he continued with his job. He didn't know me well enough to let me into the boss's office. He also didn't want to disturb the boss's meeting. I could only sit there patiently, waiting for Leander to be done. An hour passed. Two hours. Three hours. My butt began to ache. I raised my head to look at the assistant, who was still working away. "Excuse me, when will he be done?" It was taking too long. The assistant coughed awkwardly. He picked
