My eyes searched his. An offer? Could it be money? I shook my head. My father-in-law was rich enough to rival my father's consortium and still be victorious. Why then would he need money from me, an heir who hadn't truly taken over? Looking into those hypnotic blue eyes, numerous ideas flashed through my head, but none of them were worthy of the man before me. To make him my sharpest weapon against my enemies, to make him willingly stay with me... No. Leander wouldn't have to fight my battle. Instead, I would make those scummy couples regret everything with my own hands. But to live after that, I needed Leander. I needed a place around him—a reason to make him stay with me. What then would it be? Right then, my phone rang, startling me out of my thoughts. I gently pulled back from Leander and picked up my phone from my pocket to check. Vesper... The name peered back at me through the phone's screen, and my eyes darkened. My hold on the phone tightened. With a long sigh, I ended the call and pushed the phone back to my pocket. I hadn't even removed my hand from it when it vibrated with a message. The frown on my face deepened. I glanced at Leander, who shrugged lightly and picked up his drink. My thoughts swirled. I brought out the phone to check the message. A bitter smile formed on my lips as I read the seemingly worried message from my best friend, Nick. Mr Vesper was worried about me. He called Nick to ask about me. I read the message repeatedly, and my smile widened. How had I never noticed this before? Thinking about the past, I realized the two had shown me many signs, but it seemed I was too blind to the truth. Many days, I would meet Nick at my house when I returned from outside. Nick would be the first to tell me things about Vesper. Things I should have been the first to know as his partner. Nick knew a lot more about him. Too much. Yet, I never for once doubted them. Perhaps I was too silly. Perhaps it was my silliness that cost me my child. My breath became shaky. My fingers turned sweaty as I forcefully slammed the phone on the table before me while my other hand clenched tightly. But this lifetime would be different. Even if I had only three years left... it would be enough to drag them to hell. Raising my head, my lips trembled when I saw my father-in-law staring back at me. His cool gaze held mine, flashing with words I couldn't comprehend. But then it dawned on me___ What my father-in-law needed wasn't money, nor was it properties. I pressed back the discomfort and sadness in my heart. My eyes grew confident as I kept my eyes on him, ignoring the fast beating of my chest. "How about offering you what you need the most, father-in-law?" I rested my elbow on the table before me and shifted closer to him. My face was inches away from his. His long eyelashes fanned down, hiding any change that might have occurred in his eyes. But I wasn't much different. My hand on the table trembled coldly with each second that passed. My thoughts bordered on messy, and so did my head. But I pressed back. I had to make him stay. "Father-in-law," I called softly, staring at his long nose. "I will give you what you need the most," I murmured. Leander's eyes parted, looking into mine intensely. "And what is it?" Close. It was too close. My blood ran hot. "You want control," I said calmly. "I’ll give you something better—an heir that belongs only to you." The air stilled. Leander's eyes flickered, and he abruptly moved back, creating a distance between us. "You are drunk." He said deeply. He grabbed the cup on the table and drank it all at once. My brows creased. Drunk? I didn't think so. "I'm not." I sat upright and crossed my legs. "This is a deal, father-in-law. It's nothing complicated." "You give me what I need, and I will give you an heir." I smiled at him. "Isn't that what you need the most?" Leander threw away the almost burnt tobacco and brought out another. He gracefully lit it up and brought it to his lips. My eyes followed his movement, stopping at his thin and dry lips. "What do you say?" Leander breathed out. With it was the silver color of a true tobacco. "I don't need an heir." He tapped the table lightly. "I already have one." "He's adopted." I interrupted. "Also, he might not live long enough to survive you." Leander's eyes flashed. His brows raised. "Don't you think you need a real one. Your flesh and blood, who wouldn't betray you in your old age?" He paused. Vesper would. I hadn't seen him do it or show it, but from his words in my last life, I could tell he would betray Leander sooner or later. Vesper was greedy. Greedy enough not to even spare his first child. Leander puffed out the smoke in his mouth. He sipped his drink and stood up. "I don't do forbidden." He held the tobacco with his lips as he meticulously arranged his suit. I reached out. But he grabbed my wrist, stopping me. His fingers tightened briefly around my wrist before letting go___ firm, controlled. “Don’t test me, Ethan.” "You belong to my son." He said and turned around to leave. I stood up, blocking him. He was taller. Tall enough for his figure to loom over me even when I was the one blocking his way. He lowered his head to look at me. "What?" His voice was cold. "I do not belong to your son," I said word by word. The thought of belonging to Vesper again in this life made me so disgusted that my stomach twisted. But Leander's expression remained the same. He didn't believe me. I tilted my head to the side as a small smile surfaced on my face. "Father-in-law, do you believe me?" "No." My chest tightened with anger. Even my face twitched. But I held back. "Your son had never touched me." My eyes were firm. "Not once." "He should have... tonight." I closed my eyes briefly. "But we didn't." His gaze remained sharp. "If you investigate, you'll know I'm telling the truth." I looked into his dark eyes, and my expression tightened. "Help me ruin him, Leander," I murmured. "And I will give you something your son never could."ETHAN Thinking back, all I'd ever done was be good to him. I gave him the things he asked for and even the things he didn't ask for. As long as I noticed he needed something, I would pull all strings to make sure he had it. So much so that our other friends were always jealous of him. So why? Why had he hated me so much? The more I thought about it, the more my head ached. My fingers tightened briefly on the phone in my hand, and my mind was in chaos. Knowing I couldn't drive in this state, I unlocked my phone and booked a ride. My eyelids were lowered as I waited patiently for the arrival of the ride. A few days ago, this same question had crossed my mind, and yet it only got stronger. Was there a time that I had hurt Nick without knowing? Was that why he didn't hesitate before pushing me toward my death in my last life and also wouldn't hesitate to ruin me in this life?My fingertips tightened. RING My phone suddenly rang, startling me out of my daze. My eyes moved slightl
ETHANStaring at Vesper, who was crying and pleading before me, I had no idea what to think or even say. He placed my hand on his cheek, staring into my eyes as if he were waiting for my response. My lips parted several times, and different words rolled to my tongue. However, each of them wasn't the right thing to say in this situation. What would he do if I told him I hated him? What would he think if I told him I would never love him again in this life? While they were exactly how I felt in my heart, I knew it wasn't the best thing to say in this situation. For my plans, for my revenge, I had to suppress all the blooming rage in my heart. But... it was difficult. My fingers turned cold on his cheek. My lips pressed tightly, unable to utter a word of deceit. Perhaps it was the deep sincerity I saw in his eyes or the deep-set anger in my heart and the urge for revenge; I really couldn't bring myself to deceive him or tell the truth. Vesper leaned closer. "Stay with me, okay?" H
ETHAN My heart raced so fast that it felt like it was about to escape from my chest. No matter how hard and deep I thought, I couldn't come up with a way to avoid Vesper removing the boxer. When I lowered my eyes again, I was fully naked on his lap, and his eyes were fixed on my body. I couldn't see the look in his eyes, yet it made me eerily uncomfortable. I knew it was nothing good. His fingers tightened on my waist, and underneath my butt, I could feel something pushing hard against me. I flinched. Vesper laughed in a low voice. "I'm sorry." He whispered. His breath hit my ear. "I wish I remembered everything." "Ugh," He bit my earlobe. "You have such a great body, baby." Right. He hadn't seen my body at all in this life. Thinking about it again, he had been so obsessed with my body in our last life that even after pregnancy, he still wouldn't let me rest. It took the family doctor a few visits to his office before he controlled himself. With the thoughts resurfacing
ETHANMy heart raced so fast that I felt Vesper could hear it. My fingers clenched tightly under the blanket. Thoughts ran through my head. What was I supposed to say?How should I convince him?I hadn't thought of a situation like this. Initially, I had been worried that he might not be convinced, so I planned to endure some intimacy but knock him out before he went deeper. However, when I saw through Nick's plan to drug Leander, I felt excited, thinking I should have done that sooner. A drugged person wouldn't remember much, especially after drinking so much that he was almost drunk and sleepy. But it seemed I was wrong. He remembered everything. He even knew he wasn't the one who left the marks. I closed my eyes. Would I really have to divorce him and attack him from the outside? Then, the world would wonder why I did it. They would paint me and call me names. It would be difficult to get closer to Leander, too, as his reputation would also be ruined along with mine. Our we
LEANDER He left. Watching as he closed the door behind him, I lost all interest in sleeping any longer and decided to stand up. The bed was a mess, and so was the trash can at the side. My brows creased slightly. I'd never been the one to do these things in the past. Why did I touch him here? No, why did I touch him at all?Looking at my fingers, which wouldn't stop trembling, I knew this was trouble. I'd tried to avoid him well enough. I'd been avoiding him for years already. He was too young. He was in love with another. He could never be mine. Even now, he only saw me as a tool. Perhaps to make Vesper love him more? That didn't seem right. He knew Vesper was cheating. Whether this was revenge, punishment, or something else entirely, I couldn't tell. But I had become part of Ethan's plan.I walked toward the bathroom, pushing my fingers through my hair as my expression turned complicated. What would happen next? After touching him once and waking up with him by my side, wo
ETHANThe alarm rang loudly in the room. Stretching my hand, I swiped it off. RING~~~~~It came again. I hissed and turned the phone over. It automatically stopped. Finally regaining a peaceful moment, I shifted closer into the warm and firm embrace and resumed sleeping. "Ethan." A deep and magnetic voice called. The call was distant, yet it rang really close to my ears.I frowned and nestled deeper into the embrace. It was so comfortable. "Ethan? It's almost morning." The voice came again. I felt displeased. "I know," I replied grudgingly. It wasn't morning, right? Then what was the disturbance all about? But the voice seemed persistent. "Vesper will wake up soon. Your plan." My eyes snapped open. I stood up roughly in bed, almost falling back from the pressure. "Right. You're right." My voice was weak. Blinking, I tried to push back the sleepiness in my eyes. "I should leave." It was more for myself. I picked up my phone to check and realized it was thirty minutes pa
ETHANStaring at Leander, my lips pressed into a thin line, and a hint of desperation showed in my eyes. This was a rare occurrence. Something I'd never expected. But it could also disappear at the twinkle of an eye if I fail to hold on to this man before me. He was my salvation. The only one wh
ETHAN My body turned cold as the realization dawned on me. Leander, my father-in-law, had a fate with me? Maybe it wasn't really fate yet, but why else would the countdown stop when he was with me? I wasn't certain. Yet a strong pull emerged from my chest, urging me to find out whatever was g
ETHAN My body suddenly fell backward. Fast. Sudden. A loud crack sounded within my body, and my eyes abruptly parted. I exhaled shakily. Shock and fear palpable in my silver orbs. Unable to control my emotions, I sat up and looked around even more curiously. I was in bed. If I hadn't reme
ETHAN It was a sunny afternoon. Supporting my heavy belly, I stepped out of Leander's car with a small frown on my face. Turning around to look at him in the car, the frown on my face deepened, but I still bowed slightly as a form of respect. "I will take my leave now." I closed the car
