SARA'S POV

Not even an ounce of surprise surfaced on Derek's face.

The only reaction that could even be considered one, that I got from him was a slow blink.

At that moment, he looked like Danielle, when she was trying to process an instruction I had given her.

Then, as though he'd finally processed enough of it, his lips parted, "I see."

Again, I expected more of a reaction and there and then, I told myself I needed to get home, sit and then analyse why I felt a pressing need to have Derek show more reactions to anything I did.

It was strange and not understanding the reason behind it was even stranger.

I wasn't even sure what exactly I was waiting for. It wasn't like he had ever acknowledged my words any more than he was doing now.

"It's mostly work," I added, feeling the need for sudden justification. "We'll be having presentations, meetings..." I stopped myself abruptly, realizing I had begun to ramble.

"Mhm," Derek gave a small nod. "It makes sense that he'd go too."

SARA’S POVI woke slowly, feeling as though someone had injected lead into every of my pore. My neck was stiff and something warm and hard was beneath my cheek. Wait, it wasn’t really hard, at least it didn’t have the solidness of a wood. I could describe it as being hard and soft at the same time. Also, it was steady, rising and falling too.It felt like a….A shoulder.A man’s shoulder. My eyes flew open immediately. For a split second, I didn’t know where I was or what I was doing there. My eyes darted from right to left, slowly registering all that I could see.The cabin lights were dimmed to a late-evening glow, and passengers were pulling down luggage or stretching stiff limbs. It hit me then, my memory flooded my head all at once. I was still in flight, headed to Vienna for the collaboration with Reinhart. And, I wasn’t alone, I was with Alaric and the shoulder I had been resting on and carassing just now, in an attempt to figure out what it was, belonged to him.I jolted upr

THIRD PERSON’S POV Alaric stayed a respectful distance back but he remained attentive, taking it all in with a razor sharp gaze without interruption. He didn’t even take a step forward and just quietly observed from where he stood. The first thing he noted was how Sara melted when she saw Danielle, in a way that even she probably didn’t realise. It brought out a side of her, so soft, a side he always loved to see.It reminded him of the reason he’d fallen for her in the first place and as much as he tried to tell himself to give her time and to distance himself, he couldn’t.He itched to get close, every time and that, in itself, was the reason he was standing here, watching Derek while he watched Sara.Being a man himself, Alaric couldn’t help but note that something was strange in the way Derek stood, in the way he looked too.He reminded him of a man with words on the tip of his tongue that he refused to voice. In contrast to what Alaric had just likened him to, Derek spoke, stari

THIRD PERSON’S POV The airport drop-off lane was already bustling with people and cars when Alaric pulled the car to a clean stop beside the curb. The morning air buzzed with overlapping conversations, rolling suitcases, and distant boarding announcements echoing from the sliding doors ahead.Sara stepped out first, and pulled her coat tighter around her when a sharp breeze blew past. Alaric got out of his side of the car soon after she did and then walked over with hurried steps, taking her suitcase before she could reach for it.He heaved it up in his arms so easily it left her feeling slightly flustered. The words of protest rolled out of her tongue instinctively, “You really don’t have to…”Alaric didn’t speak. He gave her a look that was sufficient to stop her words in their tracks.Sara smiled and white arguing, feeling it was pointless now when they’d had the back and forth just earlier this morning. The memory of the car ride returned to her, the laughter and the awkward si

SARA'S POVThe next morning, I was waiting by my building's lot as early as the time Alaric described, fully intending to make sure he didn't wait a minute.I achieved my goal but barely. Waiting didn't even last as long as Five minutes before his car pulled into view.He got out of his car before I could move and walked towards me with a smile, "Early bird.""You're the one who's here earlier than I expected," I smiled in return, dodging his attempt to take my suitcase. His smile waned and he reached behind me to take it, muttering, "I'll take that."I couldn't refuse anymore so I handed it to him and mumbled a reply, "Thanks.""You need to stop thanking me for doing absolutely nothing," Alaric said and shook his head at me, almost disbelievingly then walked around to the boot of his car.He heaved my suitcase and placed it gently into it then quickly, walked back the door open for me before I could reach for the handle."You didn't have to..." I was saying but I reined in my tongue

SARA'S POVI was seated at my dining room, a cup of warm chamomile tea in hand while a plate of scrambled eggs and toast was set in front of meIt was a simple dinner that I should have had for breakfast instead but I was too exhausted too cook but was hungry and so, had quickly whipped this up to avoid going to bed hungry.I had barely sat down and was scrolling through my socials when my phone vibrated with a message from Alaric.Pausing, I stopped scrolling then clicked the attachment, opening it to reveal what he had sent to me.It was a message that read, "Schedule for Vienna trip attached. Call me when you're free."Without hesitation, I opened the attachment and quickly skimmed through. Noting how packed the schedule was with back to back meetings, client briefings, presentations, designs showcase and introductions too.None of it was something I couldn't handle but seeing them listed out all at once like this was quite overwhelming.I wasn't like before anymore. I trusted in m

THIRD PERSON'S POV That couple of seconds to Derek, was spent making a decision, on whether to pick up Alyssa's call. He'd somehow known she'd called him.Something told him she would, after the way she left this morning and after what had transpired between her and Danielle. It brought him back to the way he had met Sara nad Danielle earlier. He could tell they had discussed something, before his arrival and Danielle's teary gaze was all the confirmation he needed for that but as though they had previously agreed on it, they both refused to tell him.Derek was curious but he didn't pry. It was okay for Sara and Danielle to have their own secret but it also made him wonder- Did Danielle's sudden closeness with Sara have something to do with her withdrawal from Alyssa? He wasn't dumb, and he didn't need a soothsayer to spell it out to him. He could see it clearly, Danielle was beginning to draw back from Alyssa and he wondered why that was because he had also been a witness to how muc
