THIRD PERSON'S POV

Each blow landed, one after the other, with intention, leaving Laurent disoriented.

The side of his lips were already stained with blood from where his lips had cracked after an impactful hit from Derek and bruises dotted his face like a purposefully designed outfit.

He grabbed his face after another numbing hit from Derek, who grabbed him again and slammed him into the dresser, face first.

The impact of his body against the wooden frame of the dresser caused it to splinter and Laurent fell to the ground like a ragdoll.

He scampered to get to his feet, writhing and graining in pain. "How dare you touch me? You have no idea..."

Up until the moment he fell to the ground, he had no idea who had hit him and thought it was just some random person or a waiter who had heard the sound of Sara's voice and came rushing in.

"You touched her." A cold voice rang out atop his head, frigid and emotionless.

It made Laurent pause and he lifted his head, cracking his swollen bruised

THIRD PERSON’S POV Not a single thing about the house had changed. Everything was exactly as he had left it and the quiet was the first thing Derek noticed about it when he walked in.It had been quiet yesterday too, and the day before but it was a different kind of quiet, the kind that didnt make him uncomfortable. All of the lights were left on and the furnitures were all in place with no sign that someone had moved through the space at all but the air…It retained a floral scent that he found familiar. He couldn’t tell when or how, but he knew instantly that it was a scent he has gotten a whiff of before, if not more.He seemed to have breathed it in, more times than he could count, or he wouldn’t recollect so vividly.Derek remained standing on the spot, trying really hard to remember with a faint crease of his brows. Was it…? No, he couldn’t remember Sara ever smelling like that. His brows creased even harder and finally, it clicked.Alyssa.Derek whirled around so fast he nearl

SARA’S POVRina’s question wasn’t probing, neither was it accusatory. It sounded more like a question that had been voiced after deep observation but the moment she said it. My body went rigid.I wasn’t expecting her to ask so soon and had thought her silence meant that she had decided to shelve it aside until the kids were out of sight. That was what I thought to do before, so having her ask now put me on the spot. I glanced at Danielle quickly first, noting that she had stopped chattering with Clara and was now staring at me, as though she wanted to know the answer too. When my gaze shifted to Clara, I found the same look on her face. The innocent, eagerness of childhood that stimulated them to learn more about new and foreign places. They, no doubt, were preparing to hear exciting stories about how my trip went but how could I tell them that the only adrenaline inducing thing that had happened to me was being nearly taken advantage of.There was no way in the world I would say tha

SARA’S POVThe arrival hall smelled like recycled air and wafted strongly with the smell of coffee.None of the smells I could make out were unpleasant, they were all just too familiar, stimulating my nerves and reminding me that I was back home.I walked out of the arrival hall, pulling my suitcase behind me while walking at a languid pace. Being back home, meant that I wasn’t in a rush but I also wasn’t walking fast simply because my shoulders were stiff and my legs seemed too heavy to lift. The flight had taken its toll on me and now the voices ringing out around me, the overlapping announcements, the cries of babies and the scrapes of shoes and suitcases against the ground all felt too much.It felt as though all the strength had been sapped out of me on the way here but despite all of that, the heaviness in my chest had lessened. It was as if stepping into this city was all I needed all along to lighten the weight in my chest and now, even though I wasn’t happy, I wasn’t exactly

THIRD PERSON'S POVFreeman stood in the doorway, shifting his weight from one foot to another like he always did whenever he was before Derek. He was hesitant about stepping in and watched the latter from a distance, trying to gauge his reaction.Derek however, had sensed his presence the moment Freeman stepped in and was waiting for him to announce his presence or indicate why he was there but Freeman didn't even after a while, so Derek was forced to lift his head from the files he was working on and when he did so, he sent a questioning glance towards Freeman."Do you need something?""Ah...Yes...No..." Freeman fumbled for words, clearing his throat awkwardly. He stepped in slowly, pausing only when he was standing before Derek."Sir," He said finally, as though he was forcing the words last his throat and it was taking him a whole lot of effort to."What is it?" Derek asked with his gaze still affixed on him. He let his pen drop then leaned back in his seat and crossed his arms, wa

SARA'S POVThe entire way to the airport, I was quiet.I didn't ask Alaric anything even though I still had a whole lot bottled inside of me. A huge part of me was heavily unsettled about just leaving things like this.It felt like I was running away and displaying unprofessionalism but a quick glance at Alaric quickly deterred me from revealing my thoughts. His mind seemed to be made up, and something told me nothing I said would change his decision. He didn't speak to me either, but occasionally, I caught him glancing over at me.A long while later, he glanced in my direction again. "Sara, are you okay?"I returned his gaze, disoriented for a second bit then I managed a small smile at him. "Yes, I'm fine, why?""You have been really quiet for a while now," He pointed out.I looked away, suddenly feeling discomforted by his stare. Not because I didn't like the look in his eyes, but because I felt bare before him, as though I was an open book he could read."I'm fine," I muttered, swa

SARA’S POVMorning arrived quietly.I’d turned off all my alarms the night before, knowing there was no work to resume to, not when the contract hung in the balance or most likely had been called off already. The sun shone brightly into my room, filtering through the curtains and settling across the room like it had been there all night, waiting for me to stir awake and see it.Just like I had done the night before, I lay still for a moment, staring at the ceiling, simply contemplating life on all of its entirety. My thoughts trailed and dated back to the early days of my marriage, when slow mornings like this just seemed inconceivable for me. Now I had it, but I didn’t have the joy I thought would accompany it.From that, my mind drifted to my meeting with Alaric then to my call with Daneille and then the silence from Derek’s end.I wondered if he thought the same as Alaric. Actually, there was no point thinking that when he had agreed already. The collaboration had unraveled in le
