SARA'S POV

The promise hung in the air, as heavy as a storm cloud. I grabbed the edge of his table, supporting my weight with it then nodded slowly.

“Alright,” I muttered.

“Good.” Alaric added, his tone softening even more. Then, almost as though he had only just thought of it, he said in addition, “You look exhausted. You should get some rest. Let me handle things.”

I wanted to argue, to tell him that I wasn't tired but my body betrayed me with a fatigued sigh. “Fine. But you have to keep me updated.”

His lips tugged back, almost forming a smile. “Always.”

I rose to my feet and pointed at the folder, "I'll leave this here just in case you want to go through it again."

He nodded in agreement and as I turned around to leave, I felt his gaze following after me, steady and lingering. It made me feel warm but at the same time, I found it unsettling and it also made me wonder what he had been about to say earlier in the boardroom before cutting his words off himself.

THIRD PERSON'S POVAfter Sara took Danielle downstairs, Derek and Bethany headed to his study. His mother had taken the lead first and forced him to come along, saying she wanted to speak to him out of earshot.Derek could already imagine what it was she wanted to say to him but that wasn't what crowded his mind.It was the defiance Sara had shown earlier towards his mother, how she hadn't hesitated to mention their divorce and then the look in her eyes as she led Danielle away.He couldn't fathom what that meant no matter how he thought about it but something told him she was mad at him. When she brought up his unavailability all through the previous day, he had not hesitated to accept it.He was at fault and he knew that. When they got to his study, his mother dropped her bag heavily on his desk then huffed, "What are you teaching this wife or yours, did you hear how she spoke to me earlier? Why didn't you say anything?"Her words rambled out with angry breaths but out of the blue s

SARA'S POVI don't know if it was just a simple instinct or one fueled by maternity but the minute I saw Danielle's face and what she was looking at, I understood. She had seen that picture before now and worse, had given her own meaning to it.Her little face was frozen and her body was eerily still. Even her hands that I was grasping onto had stiffened."Danielle," I called but she didn't respond to my call or withdraw her gaze from the picture.I didn't attempt to call her again but gently stepped between her and Bethany instead, forcing her to look at me.She lifted her head, and met my gaze and I sighed then bent to bent low and heaved her into my arms on one swift move.It had been a long while since I lifted her like this but I didn't mind doing so now. My only thought was to get her away from this uncomfortable atmosphere. Before my departure, I turned a sharp look in Derek's direction then glared at Bethany right before I walked off.In the kitchen, I set Danielle on the coun

SARA'S POVA mirthless smile crossed my lips, "What I mean is that Derek and I are getting divorced."Bethany's face turned a shade paler and her mouth parted as though she was ridden with disbelief. For a second, even Derek who was always so stoic lost his composure and was taken aback before he controlled his expression again."If you think someone should be lectured about propriety then I think your son is the right person you should speak to," I added then crossed my arms into each other. My eyes glinted with amusement when Bethany sputtered speechlessly. When Bethany finally got over her surprise, her nostrils flared and her body trembled with restrained anger, "You...""Mom," Derek's sharp call cut her off.Bethany shifted her gaze to him and glared while I was struck with astonishment. The way he called for her suggested that he was calling his mother to order but I dared not trust Derek simply because he had backed me up a few times.I still had my suspicions that him doing th

THIRD PERSON'S POVSara froze for a second and she gripped the hem of her cloth. She hadn't realised it wasn't just Derek she needed to avoid but his mother too. If she knew Bethany would show up then she wouldn't have given in to Danielle's request for breakfast and would have left long enough to avoid meeting her mother-in-law who was very nearly insufferable. As expected, Bethany found her way up the stairs, her voice growing louder as she approached. Her heels clicked against the tiles as well, another loud proclamation of her arrival.Sara knew what she had to do, she was just going to ignore her the way she did to Derek."There you are," Bethany's voice carried across the hallway, echoing for additional effect. Her gaze landed first on Derek, who she smiled at, then flicked to Sara and her smile waned, *You are here too, Sara. How convenient."Sara's eyes flickered. The way Bethany spoke sounded as though she knew something Sara was not privy to but at the same time, Bethany alwa

  • REGRET UNTIL SHE SAYS GOODBYE    Chapter 91

SARA'S POVI woke up with an unnatural stiffness in my limbs, especially my left arm.For a minute, I didn't recognize the pale ceiling above me or the soft sound of breath next to my ears, nor did I register the warmth of the person that had used my arm as cushioning for their head as Danielle The fog in my eyes finally cleared and I glanced down at my daughter who was sleeping with her hands tucked beneath her chin. Her lashes curled downwards and her breath game smoothly and easily. For a second, I had an urge to caress her cheeks but stopped myself before I could do so and wiggled myself out of her hold.I stood up and peered down at her for a long minute, unsure what to do.Waking her didn't seem right and I didn't want a situation whereby she would pester me to stay the rest of the day like she had down last night.Up until this moment, I couldn't believe that I had fallen asleep when my initial plan was to slip out after she fell asleep. But, who was I kidding?Yesterday was go

THIRD PERSON'S POVDanielle was woken up in the middle of the night by an urge to urinate. She sat up in bed and rubbed her eyes groggily, feeling the burn in her bladder. "Mommy," She turned to her side, wanting to wake Sara but her hands froze mid air when she saw that mommy was fast asleep. No, she wouldn't wake her. She could go to pee by herself. Mommy looked too peaceful in her sleep. Moreover, what if she woke mommy and then mommy decided to leave her side? She didn't want that, she enjoyed snuggling up to mommy too much.Gently, she helped herself off her bed then went into the bathroom. When she returned to the room, she crept silently back to her space in the bed, still doing her utmost best to be careful not to wake mummy. While laying down, Danielle seriously began to scrutinize mommy's face. Why didn't she realise mommy was so beautiful before now? She was almost as beautiful as Aunt Alyssa. The thought of Aunt Alyssa made her recollect what happened earlier in the day an
