LOGINChapter 6: THE JOURNAL.
The castle corridor stretched endlessly before Caden as he made his way towards the dungeon. Two guards flanked him, their boots echoing against the floor in rhythmic thumps. “Check the eastern border first”, Caden ordered “ the guards who brought in the rogue are stationed there, ask them to bring me the keys to his cell.” One guard nodded and peeled away with a curt “yes, beta” as he vanished through a bend. Caden continued towards the dungeons, but his mind wandered elsewhere, back to the girl with amber eyes and ginger hair. He had seen the way Arden's hands trembled slightly when he returned from her room. His friend could pretend all he wanted, but he knew him too well. That man is struggling . Caden thought with a smirk. She definitely has a strong effect on him, he just doesn't know it yet. ………… Hazel sat cross-legged on the massive bed, staring at the ornate ceiling above her, the room was easily thrice the size of her dingy cell she had slept in at shadow moon pack. Silk sheets, velvet curtains. A fireplace that crackled actual fire, not the dying embers she was used to. “Pinch me” she muttered to herself You are not dreaming, Akira replied, rolling her eyes. “ Then why does this feel like a trap?” Because you have been used to bare minimum so this looks surreal to you I guess. Hazel flinched at her wolf's bluntness. Akira wasn't wrong, but the truth still stung. A soft knock interrupted her spiralling thoughts. “Come in”, she said, bracing herself for another encounter with the intimidating wolf king. Instead a young girl slipped in through the door, she couldn't have been older than nineteen, with curly brown hair and a face full of freckles with a happy smile on her face. Her hand clutched a tray loaded with food : warm bread, honey butter, sliced meats, and a steaming bowl of stew. “Hi.” The girl chipped. “It's me piper, I have served you before” the beta has instructed to be your personal maid”. Hazel blinked. “My…. Personal maid? “Yes!, I'm so excited, I have never been a personal maid before. I usually clean the west wing and serve food to visitors in the palace, but beta Caden said I had the friendliest face so I should take care of you, “I get to take care of our Luna.” Piper said happily as she set the tray down on the bed side table “You're really pretty, by the way. Like a fox. A ginger fox.” Hazel opened her mouth, then closed it. Then opened it again. A maid?, she asked herself sounding confused, she does not need a personal maid, she was once one herself. Akira rolled her eyes, you need someone to keep you company and I think she's perfect for that. After much deliberation Hazel accepted, “ Okay… thank you”, Hazel managed. Piper beamed “eat up you look like you haven't had a proper meal in years.” Then I get to take you round the castle, and show you every beautiful thing. I promise you will enjoy it, she said, beaming with so much joy. She's not wrong, Akira muttered amused. Hazel has never seen anyone so happy to be a maid she thought, shaking her head. Hazel picked the bread tentatively, she took a bite. Then another. Then she was devouring the entire tray like a starving animal. Piper watched with joy and satisfaction “Good right?, chef Marco makes the best honey bread in all the territories.” “It's incredible”, Hazel said between bites, not caring how undignified she looked. Slow down,Akira scolded. You will choke and embarrass yourself. I don't care, this bread is worth dying for. She said back savouring the taste. ………… Meanwhile, Arden stood in the eastern watchtower, staring out at the dense forest beyond his borders. The wind carried the scent of pine and distant rain, but underneath it, he could still smell her. Hazel. The mate bond was already working its magic. Weaving invisible threads between them. Every breath he took felt incomplete without her scent. Every silence felt too loud. “Found anything yet?” He asked without turning around. A guard stepped forward nervously. “ Not yet, your majesty. But we are still searching the perimeter where we found her”. “Search harder”. He said, sounding frustrated. The guard scurried away. Axel growled in his mind. You're being an idiot. I'm being cautious. There's a difference between caution and cruelty. She's our mate. Our other half. And you're treating her like a criminal. Arden's jaw tightened. “Because she might be one”, he said aloud She's not. “You don't know that”. I feel her, Arden, through the bond. She's scared, not sneaky. She's hurt not hiding. When will you stop seeing ghosts in every shadow?. Arden had no answer for that, only the hollow throb where his heart used to be rational. ……. By evening, the guards finally found the jade green bag, they brought it straight to Caden who brought it to Arden, his expression carefully blank. The Alpha king. Held the worn leather bag in his hands, turning it over. It was old. Patched in several places the strap frayed, it smelled faintly of her and that alone made his wolf snarl possessively. “Did you open it?” Arden asked, throat tight. “No, Alpha. You said to bring it to you untouched”. Arden nodded slowly, his fingers found the tarnished clasp. He hesitated. Don't do this, Axel warned, respect her privacy. If she's innocent, she has nothing to hide, Arden reasoned. That's not how trust works and you know it. Arden ignored his wolf and opened the bag. Inside, and wrapped in a fade cloth, was a necklace and a leather bound journal. The cover was scratched and stained, the pages yellowed with age, he pulled it out carefully, his heart pounding. He ran a thumb through the worn cover He opened the journal and had his heart clenched for what he saw.Chapter 50: KADE'S CHOPPED FINGERSThe great hall had never felt so small.Arden walked through the massive doors, and the temperature in the room dropped like someone had thrown them into a winter night. His white hair hung loose, damp with sweat and still caked faintly at the temples with Hazel's blood. He didn't wipe it off. He let his mates blood stick to him.His silver eyes moved across the elders one by one. Men who'd taught him how to lead, to bleed for his pack, who'd filled in his father's place and called themselves his uncles. One by one, they all looked away.He didn't speak. He walked past the long marble table, past the polished wood and silver inlays that meant nothing now, and sat down on the throne. It was high, a perfect golden throne that glittered, anybody given a chance to sit there wouldn't even blink before accepting the offer. But they wouldn't dare. No one could speak to him without craning their neck. Today it felt like a guillotine. The silence was worse th
Chapter 49: SOMETHING FAR MORE DANGEROUS Lyra had been busy.Busy spreading rumour around the pack saying the king had taken the prisoner out of the palace, he let her escape, he's blinded by love. The streets of his pack now filled with rumours about him.By the time Arden's car pulled through the palace gates, she had already spread the news through every corner of the kingdom. The king had sneaked the traitor out. The king was trying to hide her. The king was protecting a woman who had sold their secrets and weaknesses to the rogues. The elders were already gathered in the great hall, their voices raised in outrage. They were furious as they debated the matter on ground."This is unacceptable!" Helena shouted, slamming her fist against the table. " He cannot simply_""He can, so he did." Kade Interrupted coldly. " He's the king. He can do whatever he wants. The question is whether we let him, we have to stand our ground as the elders. We can't allow this."Bronze sat in the corner
Chapter 48: STAY WITH ME"Everything stops now."Darian's voice cut through the clearing like a sharp blade. He stepped into the opening, and Hazel's breath caught in her throat. She had heard stories about him, about the monster before her. The rogue who had killed Arden's family, though they didn't give her more details about what had happened, the monster who wore a man's face, the shadow that had been hunting them since before she even arrived at the palace. The stories didn't do him justice. He was tall, nearly as tall as Arden, with a face that might have been handsome if not for the cruelty lurking in his eyes. His hair was dark, streaked with gray, and a long scar ran from his temple to his jaw, pulling his mouth into a permanent sneer.Behind him, at least fifty rogues emerged from the trees, all of them smelled like bad news as they had an evil glint on their faces.Weapons glinted in the moonlight. Swords, axes, crossbows aimed directly at Hazel's heart."We only brought a
Chapter 47: LYRA FOUND OUT The palace felt awfully quiet. It was something out of the norms, and lyra had noticed.Lyra noticed it the moment she stepped through the main gates, the unnatural silence, the absence of servants scurrying through the corridors, the way the guards seemed to care less of their jobs as they did it in a lackadaisical manner.Something has happened. They couldn't be this free and less scared around the alpha. She kept her face neutral, her steps measured, as she made her way towards Arden's office. If she could just get him alone without those bad lucks who called themselves his beta and gamma, just a few minutes to whisper in his ear, to let her scent fill his lungs, to remind him that she was there, maybe she could convince him to speed up the execution. Maybe she could make him see the truth, make him see that Hazel was a liability to him, a total danger and a traitor who needed to be eliminated before she destroyed everything he had built, the peace, love
Chapter 46: A TRAPEthan's knees struck the earth with a force that cracked the frozen ground beneath him.He tried to move or stand but his body wouldn't bulge, he even found it hard to breathe, he felt surpressed by a force which was way more than gravity. His body was no longer his own. His wolf, the arrogant, brutal beast that had always answered his every command, was cowering in the back of his mind, whimpering like a puppy that had been kicked into the rain."What_" Ethan gasped, streaks of sweat pouring down his face. " What did you do to me? What have you done? How dare you?"Hazel looked down at him with utmost disgust in her eyes. For a moment, just a few minutes she felt a flicker of satisfaction. This was the man who rejected her in front of her entire pack, the man who called her a worthless and wolfless omega, who always seized all chances to call her useless. The man who had made her fell like less than nothing. And now he was kneeling at her feet, with a confused and
Chapter 45: A DIFFERENT PERSONHazel had never woken up faster. The moment her eyes opened, she was moving, throwing off the thick blanket off her body, ignoring the ache in her muscles, the heaviness in her bones. She jumped off the bed. Today was the day. Arden had promised they were going to rescue Piper. She was finally going to meet her best friend. She couldn't skip that chance, before something would happen or before Arden would change his mind.No more waiting. No more hiding. She threw open her closet, the small clothes the guards had left untorn, it no longer looked like the grand wardrobe of the Luna of such a great and big kingdom, one of the biggest among the four territories. She began tearing through it. She needed something tough. Something she could fight in.A pair of dark leather pants. A fitted tunic. A black canvas which fits perfectly. She dressed quickly, her fingers fumbling with the laces, her heart pounding so hard she could feel it in her throat which was al
chapter 13: THE REQUEST Hazel woke before dawn, the taste of milk balls still in her tongue and a fire in her chest that could burn the world. She couldn't stay weak. The feast had been beautiful, a celebration she would carry for the rest of her life. But she had watched Arden's guards patr
Chapter 12: THE HARVEST BANQUET Arden hadn't slept. Not because of nightmares. Though those came too, but because he could not stop thinking about the way Hazel had cried after Lucas's death. The way she had refused to talk or eat .She was breaking, and he didn't know how to fix it.He stood
Chapter 11: THE SISTER I NEVER HADThe flowers were still fresh on Lucas's grave, Hazel had stopped speaking. Three days have passed since they laid him to rest but Hazel still has refused to eat or talk to anyone. They laid him to rest beneath an ancient oak at the edge of the infinity pack te
Chapter 10: THE MESSAGE.Hazel ran.She didn't care that she didn't know the castle's layout. Didn't care that she was wearing a thin night gown she didn't care she was walking barefooted. Didn't care about the people who stared at her as she flew past them like a woman possessed , feral , desperat
