CHAPTER 10.

Replay of rejection.

My heart paced faster as I knew what he was going to do. He slowly walked into the room, looking around and sniffing like he had never entered my bedroom before. “What’s the problem, Father?” I enquired.

“It’s one week, and I guess you know what is happening today” he said with a firm tone. At this point, I realised that he meant every single word he said. I tried saying a word, but he immediately stopped me, putting his index finger on his lips.

“You are no longer worthy to be a member of the Northern wolf pack” he said with deep regrets. “You really are a disgrace to my family” he continued.

“Please father, don’t do this to me” I pleaded as I hurriedly knelt before him weeping profusely. But my plea fell on deaf ears as he decided to ignore my incessant pleas. “Please dad” I continued begging.

“Throw her out of my sight immediately” he said, ordered one of his guards. I kept screaming and pleading as the two guards dragged me along with them. I struggled to lose myself from their grip, but all my efforts proved futile.

The guards successfully threw me out of the house, closing the door against me. I banged and knocked heavily on the door, but nobody responded. I guess I’m going to make the streets of New York my home then. It was hard to believe that this had just happened.

Guilt, disgrace, and disappointment all overwhelmed me as I kept blaming myself for my great failure. I roamed the streets seeking where I could take shelter, but it seemed like nobody was ready to allow me in.

I finally found a spot where I could lay along the streets, but it smelt like garbage. I vomited immediately, reacting to the stench. “You need to get used to this if you want to survive here” an old man said as he adjusted to sleep.

I guess he’s right. I lay on the ground next to him, but I could not sleep. The cold was too much, and I was shivering. The old man got up and took a blanket and covered me. “Thanks” I said he tucked it in properly.

Two months had gone, and i was not getting any hope of going back home. I had already found some work to do so that I could get something to eat. I was found packing garbage from restaurants to get a few cents. “Tessa, have a seat here. I have something to tell you” the old man said.

I slowly took a seat next to him to pay attention to what he had to tell me. “What’s so pressing that you want to tell me” I asked curiously. He chuckled and cleared his throat as he looked at me in the eyes.

“I’m a wizard. Sorry I didn’t tell you all this while. I know a lot about you, and I know Beatrice is not your biological mother” he said confidently. As shocking as it sounded, I could not understand what gave him the ability to muster such an amount of courage to say something as sensitive as that.

“I guess your visions are getting blurred because of your age” I replied. I could not believe what he said. Though I had my differences with my parents, that was not enough reason for me to down my origin.

“I am telling the truth, look at your mother” he said as he cast an image into the bowl of water in front of him. I began to sense a bit of truth in what he said, but I was not going to believe him without making investigations.

I immediately stood up as I rudely walked out on him. He tried calling me back, but I turned a deaf ear to his calls. I decided to return home to see if I could get to meet my father and ask him the question about my origin.

Though it seemed impossible but I had to give it a try. Just as I was hurriedly running back home, I stumbled into a man. “Sorry” I apologised as I turned back to see who I hit.

“It seems you lack manners” he said arrogantly. He looked at me with a very rude aura burning in him.

“I apologised” I said, trying to make him keep his calm. But unfortunately, he was not taking a sorry for an answer.

“You peasants always your way if missing someone off” he continued. This time, his tone was not tolerable again as I decided to retaliate.

“I am no peasant, I bet you don’t know how to talk to a stranger” I said with a firm tone. I was too unlucky as he slapped me immediately. I held my cheek as I looked at him with deep shock.

“I guess you’re coming with me” he said as he signalled his guards to carry me. I struggled forcing them to let go of me.

“You don’t have the right to take me away” I said with a very firm tone. He asked his guards to leave me alone as he walked slowly to the spot I was standing.

“And who said you had a choice, peasant” he said as he looked right into my eyes. He is obviously planning to take me by force, but I was not going to let that happen.

“I need you to come and work in my house, and you don’t have a choice though” he continued.

“Who said I don’t have a choice?” I asked, trying to understand where he got the nerves to threaten my freedom.

“I am helping you. Besides, I know you hardly feed, so it’s more like I’m doing you a favour” he said rudely. Though I admit he was trying to do me a favour, I was very irritated by the amount of

arrogance and rudeness a man like him could harness.

"I don't think it'll rain. However, who knows? " Given the time of the year that we're in, it's hard to tell when it'll rain or not." He said with a calm voice, but as he spoke, I couldn't hel
