RIVEN'S POV

The moment my fangs sank into her skin, I felt it.

The bond slammed into place between us, so powerful that it nearly brought me to my knees. Heat exploded through my veins like wildfire. Her blood bloomed across my tongue sweet, rich, and intoxicating and the mate claim sealed with a force that stole the air from my lungs. Something deeper stirred beneath it. Something I hadn’t expected.

Her wolf woke.

I felt the exact second she rose, a surge of raw power rippling through Elara’s small body. Her back arched against me. A soft, broken sound escaped her throat. Her eyes shifted from soft brown to a brilliant, luminous gold that caught the firelight and held it. The scent of her already addictive sharpened, layered now with the wild, electric tang of her newly awakened animal.

And then her wolf touched mine.

It was like coming home after a lifetime of exile. Recognition slammed through both of us, ancient and absolute. My wolf rose hard against my skin, nearly forcing the shift, a deep, possessive growl vibrating in my chest.

Mate.
Our mate.
Finally.

Yes, I answered him, voice rough even inside my own mind. Finally.

I withdrew my fangs carefully, licking the twin punctures closed with slow, deliberate strokes of my tongue. The taste of her lingered. My cock was already hard, aching against the confines of my jeans, every instinct screaming to finish what the bite had started. I forced myself to pull back just enough to look at her.

Elara’s face was flushed, lips swollen and parted from the fierce kiss that had preceded the claiming. Her golden eyes blazed with new power and something darker want. Pure, unfiltered want. She looked beautiful. She looked wrecked in the best possible way. She looked like mine.

“Welcome,” I murmured, thumb brushing the corner of her mouth, “to your true self.”

She stared up at me, wonder and heat warring in her gaze. “I can feel her,” she whispered. Her voice was husky, thinner than usual, as if the wolf was already pressing close to the surface. “I can feel her moving inside me. She’s… loud.”

A real smile curved my mouth the first one that hadn’t felt forced in years. “She’s been waiting a long time. You can shift now. If you want to.”

She bit her lower lip. The small, hesitant gesture hit me low in the gut. Tenderness and hunger twisted together until I could barely tell them apart. “I don’t know how.”

“Your wolf knows. Let her guide you. Stop thinking. Just feel.”

Elara closed her eyes. I felt the power build inside her like a rising tide soft at first, then stronger, coiling through her limbs. The air around us shimmered. Light flickered across her skin. Then, with a quiet rush of energy that raised the hair on my arms, she shifted.

The white wolf that stood in her place was smaller than mine, delicate boned but radiating quiet strength. Soft white fur gleamed in the firelight, almost luminous. Her eyes remained that same brilliant gold. She looked at me, and I felt the tentative brush of her mind against mine shy, curious, already saturated with the mate bond’s pull.

Riven? Her mental voice was hesitant, softer than her human one, threaded with wonder.

I’m here, little wolf. I kept my own mind voice low and steady. I’m right here. You’re safe.

She took a step toward me, then another. I stayed perfectly still, giving her the space to choose. The sight of her my mate, finally whole made something primitive and possessive tighten in my chest. She was exquisite. Smaller, yes, but I could feel the power humming beneath that pale fur, the same power that had just sealed itself to mine for life.

I never thought… She shook her head, ears flicking. I always thought I was broken. That something was missing and would stay missing.

You’re not broken. The words left me with more force than I intended. You never were. You were waiting. Waiting for the right trigger. Waiting for me.

She padded closer until her shoulder brushed my thigh. I lowered my hand slowly, giving her time to pull away. When she didn’t, I stroked the soft fur between her ears, then down the elegant curve of her neck. Heat radiated from her. The bond pulsed between us, thick and alive.

Thank you, she sent, leaning into the touch. For finding me. For saving me. For… this.

I will always find you. The promise left me raw. I will always come for you. You’re my mate, Elara. My true mate. And I will never, ever let you go.

She looked up at me, golden eyes shining. I believe you.

The words undid something in me. I dropped to one knee so we were closer to eye level and buried both hands in her fur, stroking down her sides, learning the shape of her. She pressed closer, a soft sound vibrating in her throat that was half purr, half needy whimper. The scent of her arousal began to rise subtle at first, then stronger and my control frayed another inch.

“Shift back,” I said quietly, voice rough. “If you want more than this. If you want me the way I want you right now.”

The white wolf trembled. Light shimmered again. A heartbeat later Elara was human once more, naked and kneeling in the circle of my arms, skin flushed and warm from the shift. The claiming mark on her neck was already healing into a permanent silver scar my mark. Our bond. She was breathing hard, pupils blown wide, nipples tight from the cool air and the heat racing through her.

I didn’t give her time to overthink it. My mouth claimed hers again, deeper this time, tongue sliding against hers with open hunger. She moaned into the kiss and arched against me, bare breasts pressing to my chest. The friction of her soft skin against the fabric of my shirt was almost unbearable. I growled low and dragged her fully into my lap so she straddled me, the hard length of my cock trapped between us, only denim separating us from skin.

Her hands fisted in my hair. “Riven—”

“I’ve got you.” I kissed down her jaw, over the fresh mark, sucking gently until she shuddered. “Tell me to stop and I will. Otherwise I’m going to touch every inch of you until you forget what it felt like to be alone.”

She answered by rolling her hips against me, a slow, deliberate grind that made stars burst behind my eyes. “Don’t stop. Please don’t stop.”

That was all I needed.

I stripped my shirt off in one motion and pulled her flush against me again, skin to skin. The heat of her was dizzying. My hands roamed cupping her breasts, thumbs circling the tight peaks until she gasped, then sliding lower to grip her ass and rock her harder against my cock. She was already wet; I could feel the damp heat of her even through the denim. The scent of it flooded the space between us, pure temptation.

I laid her back on the thick furs near the fire, following her down so I could keep kissing her while my hand slipped between her thighs. She was slick and hot and perfect. Two fingers stroked through her folds, gathering wetness, then circled her clit with firm, slow pressure. Elara’s back bowed. A broken moan spilled from her lips.

“That’s it,” I murmured against her mouth. “Let me feel how much you want this.”

I pushed one finger inside her, then a second, stretching her carefully while my thumb kept working her clit. She was tight, clenching around me with every stroke, hips lifting to meet my hand. The bond amplified everything her pleasure crashed into me in waves, feeding my own until I was grinding against her thigh like a teenager, desperate for friction.

“Riven—gods—I’m—”

“Come for me,” I ordered softly, curling my fingers to hit the spot that made her cry out. “Let me feel it. Let your wolf feel it.”

She shattered with a sharp, sweet sound, inner walls pulsing around my fingers, golden eyes locked on mine the entire time. The sight of her coming undone marked, claimed, mine nearly finished me right there. I worked her through it until she was trembling and oversensitive, then withdrew my hand and brought my fingers to my mouth, tasting her while she watched with dazed, hungry eyes.

I stood long enough to shove my jeans and boots off. My cock sprang free, thick and flushed, the head already slick. Elara’s gaze dropped to it and her tongue flicked across her lower lip. The simple motion almost undid me.

I settled between her thighs again, guiding myself to her entrance. The head nudged against her wet heat. I held still, every muscle locked, giving her one last chance to change her mind.

She wrapped her legs around my waist and pulled.

I sank into her in one slow, relentless thrust.

The sensation was catastrophic tight, scorching silk gripping every inch of me, the mate bond flaring so brightly I saw white behind my eyelids. Elara’s nails dug into my shoulders. A broken moan tore from both of us at the same time. I stayed buried to the hilt, forehead pressed to hers, breathing through the overwhelming perfection of being inside my mate for the first time.

“Okay?” I managed, voice wrecked.

“More,” she whispered, rolling her hips. “Please, Riven. Move.”

I did.

I fucked her slow at first, long deep strokes that let her feel every inch, the wet sound of our bodies meeting filling the cabin along with the crackle of the fire. Then harder, faster, when she started meeting me thrust for thrust, golden eyes glowing, soft white light flickering under her skin as her wolf surged close to the surface again. I hooked one of her knees higher, changing the angle so I could drive deeper, and she cried out, clenching around me so tightly I had to grit my teeth to keep from coming too soon.

“You’re mine,” I growled against her throat, licking over the claiming mark. “Say it.”

“Yours—” The word broke on a moan as I slammed into her particularly hard. “I’m yours. Only yours.”

The possessive satisfaction that ripped through me was almost violent. I reached between us and rubbed tight circles over her clit, matching the rhythm of my hips. Elara’s second orgasm hit harder than the first she arched, mouth open on a silent scream, pussy fluttering and milking my cock until I had no choice but to follow her over.

I came with a guttural snarl, burying myself as deep as I could go, pulsing inside her in long, heavy waves while the bond locked even tighter around us. For several heartbeats there was nothing but heat and heartbeat and the knowledge that nothing would ever be the same again.

When the aftershocks finally faded, I rolled us carefully so she lay sprawled across my chest, still joined, my arms locked around her. I stroked her sweat damp hair and pressed soft kisses to her temple, her cheek, the edge of the mark on her neck.

She lifted her head just enough to look at me, eyes soft and golden and sated. “I can still feel her,” she whispered. “And I can feel you. Everywhere.”

“Good.” I brushed my thumb across her lower lip. “That’s how it’s supposed to be. You’re not alone anymore, Elara. Not ever again.”

Outside, the night wind moved through the trees. Inside, the fire burned low and steady. And between us the bond hummed alive, permanent, and already hungry for more.

I would burn the world to ashes before I ever let anyone take this from us.

RivenShe became my Queen the way she did everything else on her own terms.I watched her walk into the great hall of our fortress, her black leathers replaced by flowing silver silk that caught the firelight like liquid moonlight. The fabric whispered against the stone floor with each step, a soft susurrus that seemed to echo through the gathered crowd. Her dark hair was loose around her shoulders, wild and untamed, and her eyes those beautiful, impossible eyes blazed with a power that made my wolf purr with satisfaction. The crown on her head was simple, forged from the same dark metal as my own. It had been her design, her insistence that she would not wear the gold and jewels of the old world. She would wear the iron of the new.The scent of her reached me even across the crowded hall pine and wildflowers and something sweeter, something that had become the very air I breathed. I'd spent three years searching for her scent. I'd spent three years dreaming of it. Now it was everywhe

ElaraThe war arrived on a night of no moon.I stood on the highest wall of the fortress, the cold stone biting through the soles of my boots, and watched the darkness swallow the horizon. The sky above was a void no stars, no silver light, nothing but an endless expanse of black that seemed to press down on the world like a physical weight. The air was thick with the scent of impending violence, ozone and fear and the metallic tang of blood that hadn't yet been spilled. My black fighting leathers were snug against my body, stretched taut over the growing curve of my belly. The leather was soft and supple, worn from weeks of training, and it smelled of oil and sweat and the faint herbal notes of the liniment Lyra used to ease my aching muscles. I could feel every seam, every stitch, every place where the armor had been reinforced to protect the life growing inside me.Below, the eastern border of the Shadow Territories was a wall of flame.Kael's forces had hit at dusk, their torches

KaelI had rejected her to save my pack. That was what I told myself every night when I lay awake staring at the ceiling, her face burned into the back of my eyelids. That was what I whispered to my wolf when he howled with grief and rage and desperate, aching need. That was what I repeated like a prayer, a mantra, a lifeline in the endless sea of my regret. The High Council had come to me the night before the ceremony. I remembered every detail with excruciating clarity the way the moonlight had painted silver patterns across the polished floor of my study, the acrid scent of the ancient incense they burned to mask their true nature, the cold, measured voices of the three elders who had arrived without warning."Alpha Kael Draven," the eldest had intoned, his voice like stones grinding together, "we come bearing grave news. The woman you believe to be your fated mate is a threat to everything we have built."I'd laughed at first. I'd been young, arrogant, certain of my place in the w

Elara’s pov Three weeks. Three weeks since I’d arrived in the Shadow Territories. Three weeks since I’d been marked by the Rogue King. Three weeks since my wolf had awakened and the hollow place inside my chest had finally been filled. And in those three weeks, my entire world had changed so completely that the girl who once lived in Silvermoon felt like a stranger I had only heard stories about. I stood on the wide stone balcony of Riven’s castle yes, castle and looked out over the territory that was now my home. The Shadow Territories stretched endlessly before me: a vast, dark ocean of ancient forest, broken by jagged mountains that clawed at the sky. Mist clung to the valleys even in the morning light. The air smelled of pine, damp earth, and wild things. It was nothing like the orderly, manicured lands of Silvermoon, where every tree was pruned and every path was swept clean. This place was untamed. Dangerous. Alive. And I loved it with a fierceness that still surprised me.

I woke to warmth. It was the first thing I registered the unfamiliar warmth surrounding me, cocooning me like a living blanket. I was lying on something soft, buried under heavy furs that smelled of pine and woodsmoke and something deeper, wilder. Something that made the empty place inside my chest ache with a strange, restless hunger.I opened my eyes and found myself staring up at an unfamiliar ceiling.Rough hewn wooden beams stretched above me, dark with age. Moonlight poured through a wide window, painting silver patterns across the walls and the floor. A fire crackled in a massive stone hearth, filling the cabin with low, golden light and the steady pulse of heat. Shadows danced. The air was thick with the scent of burning cedar and clean male skin.Where was I?I tried to sit up and gasped as pain lanced through my chest. The bond wound.
