Vivian's POV

Alexander's words lingered in my mind long after he said them.

"You'll definitely return it."

I nodded

He simply picked up his bottle of juice and took another sip.

Calm.

Composed.

Impossible to read.

Perhaps I was thinking too much.

A faint smile found my lips.

"Thank you."

He looked at me.

"For what?"

"For making me laugh."

The corners of his mouth lifted ever so slightly.

"I'll consider that progress."

Silence settled comfortably between us.

Morning light filled my room when I woke. The talk with Alexander the night before still sat warm in my chest. He had trusted me with the painful truth about Ella. That trust made me want to face the day with strength. After breakfast I told him I needed a few things from the shopping mall. Notebooks for work notes and a light jacket for the cooler evenings.Alexander looked worried. “Take Thomas with you. Please.”I shook my head gently. “It’s only a short trip. I’ll be careful. I promise to call if anything feels wrong.”He kissed me longer than usual at the door. “Come back soon.”The mall was bright and full of people. Soft music played from speakers. I walked past clothing stores and jewelry displays, choosing a simple notebook and a soft beige jacket. For a while the normal sounds of shopping helped me relax.I stopped at a small juice bar and ordered a cold mango drink. While I waited, a sharp voice spoke behind me.“Still shopping alone, I see.”I turned. Ella stood there in a

I stared at Ella’s message until the words burned into my eyes. He’s mine. Always has been. Leave before you get broken the same way I did. My hands trembled. I wanted to throw the phone across the room, but I forced myself to stay calm. I deleted the message and blocked the number, yet the unease stayed.I couldn’t sleep. After tossing for nearly an hour, I slipped out of bed, pulled on a light robe, and walked quietly down the hall. Soft light shone from under Alexander’s door. I knocked gently.“Come in,” he called.I stepped inside. Alexander sat in his wheelchair by the large window, looking out at the dark garden. When he turned and saw me, his face softened.“Couldn’t sleep either?” he asked.I nodded and closed the door behind me. “Ella sent me a message. It wasn’t kind.”His jaw tightened. He wheeled closer and took my hand. “I’m sorry. She has no right to contact you.” He guided me to sit on the edge of the bed so we were at the same level. “I need to tell you the full story

The next morning felt different. Lighter. Happier. I woke with a smile already on my face, the heart pendant warm against my chest. I chose a soft blue dress that hugged my waist and headed downstairs.Alexander was waiting in the dining room, looking at me the moment I entered. “There she is,” he said, his voice warm. “I missed you already.”I laughed and sat beside him. “We only said goodnight a few hours ago.”“Still missed you.” He leaned over and kissed me softly. Coffee and morning light mixed with the taste of him. My stomach fluttered. After breakfast we worked side by side in the office. Every time our eyes met, a small current of heat passed between us. At one point he wheeled closer and whispered, “I keep thinking about how you felt against me yesterday. Soft. Warm. Perfect.”My cheeks burned, but I smiled. “I keep thinking about it too.”By afternoon the house felt too quiet for all the feelings building inside me. We ended up on the balcony again, the same place where our

I woke the next morning with the heart pendant resting against my skin. Alexander’s gift felt warm and steady, like a quiet promise. I touched it and smiled. For the first time in a long while, the future didn’t scare me. It excited me.Downstairs, Alexander was already waiting with two cups of coffee. When he saw me, his whole face lit up. “Good morning, beautiful. Sleep well?”“I did,” I said, sitting close to him. “I kept thinking about last night on the balcony. The way you held me. The way you listened. It feels like we’re building something real.”He took my hand. “We are. And I want to keep building it. Today, I cleared my schedule. Just us.”We spent the morning walking the garden paths. Birds sang. The air smelled of roses. Every few steps Alexander would stop the wheelchair, pull me down for a soft kiss, and whisper something sweet. “Your smile makes the whole day better.” “I love how strong you are.” “I can’t wait to hold you longer tonight.”By afternoon the heat between u

The days after David’s visit felt lighter. Alexander made sure extra security was around the estate, but he never made me feel trapped. Instead, he gave me space while staying close. Our romance grew stronger with every shared meal, every quiet conversation, and every kiss. One afternoon, we sat in the garden again. The flowers were in full bloom, and a gentle breeze carried their sweet scent. I wore a light summer dress that fluttered around my knees. Alexander looked handsome in a simple shirt, his wheelchair positioned so he could easily reach my hand.“You’ve been quiet today,” he said, squeezing my fingers. “Still thinking about him?”“A little,” I admitted. “But mostly I’m thinking about us. How different this feels from my past. With David, everything was rushed promises and pressure. With you, it’s... gentle. Real.”He smiled warmly. “That’s all I want. To show you that love doesn’t have to hurt.” He pulled me closer until I sat on his lap. His arms wrapped around my waist. “Y

I woke up early the next morning with a heavy feeling in my chest. David’s messages kept echoing in my head. This isn’t over. I couldn’t keep hiding it from Alexander anymore. He deserved to know. Our budding romance was too important to let secrets creep in.I found him in the dining room, sipping coffee and looking over some papers. Sunlight streamed through the windows, making the room feel warm and safe. But my nerves were jumping.“Alexander,” I said softly as I sat down. “I need to tell you something.”He put his papers aside right away and gave me his full attention. “What is it, Vivian? You look worried.”I took a deep breath and told him everything. The first message. The email. The latest one saying he knew where I was. My voice shook a little as I spoke. “I blocked him, but he keeps finding ways. It brings back all the pain—the pregnancies I lost, the way he chose Charlotte. I thought I was done with that chapter.”Alexander’s face hardened. His hands clenched around his co
