CHAPTER 41

Jeremy leans back in his seat, arms folded. “You're quieter than usual. That’s not like you.”

Natasha lifts her glass, eyes narrowing. “Maybe you don’t know me well enough to make that judgment.”

A smirk plays on his lips. “Three meetings. That’s enough to know you are not the quiet type. You do cold stares and snappy comebacks.”

She sets her glass down. “I didn’t accept your invite to analyze me.”

“No,” Jeremy says, leaning forward, “you came because you’re curious. About me.”

She rolls her eyes. “Don’t flatter yourself.”

“Too late,” he replies, gaze locking onto hers. “You’ve been staring at my mouth for five minutes.”

Her cheeks flush, and she looks away for half a second.

Jeremy lifts his hand, brushing his thumb across the corner of her lips. “Wine stain.”

“You could’ve just told me.”

He licks the pad of his thumb slowly. “That would’ve been less fun.”

Natasha scoffs, but her heart’s racing. “You’re ridiculous.”

“And you’re not as unaffected as you pretend to be.”
