Jose pushed the door open, ushering Selena into the house. They both stopped, noticing Jose's mother, who stood at the foyer to welcome them home. Mara smiled, moving towards Selena. "Such a beautiful child, Selena, I thought you'd never come for a visit." She scolded cheerily. Selena couldn't help glaring at her.

"Where is my father?" She asked, looking around the room. Mara was taken aback at her abruptness. Selena felt Jose shove the door close. He stood behind her probably communicating his mom with his eyes.

The frown changed into forced laughter. "My, my, my Selena, what a very bad way to talk to your aunty"

The term grated on her nerve. She wanted nothing to do with their insanity. "Aunty?" She murmured in disdain. The pain had receded on the drive and all she felt was anger and revulsion.
