LENA’S POV

Everything got worse and that was the reason why I was sitting in the medical room for the fifth time in one week.

At first, I tried convincing myself it was stress, trauma or maybe just the adrenaline from the attacks.

But by the third day, it became impossible to deny.

At every moment of the day, I was always hearing things I wasn't supposed to hear.

I heard the sound of two guards making out in the wing at the far end of mine, random heartbeats belonging to various people, foots

JAX'S POVLena was becoming a problem. The dangerous kind. A kind of problem that crept in quietly and dismantled everything before you realized what was happening. She had been in my life for only forty-three days. Forty-three days and somehow she had already found a way past walls I had spent years reinforcing. She was supposed to be a mission. A name on a list of responsibilities. A girl I was supposed to keep hidden until the problem was no longer there. Until the threat was finally eliminated and the council decided what came next. She was supposed to be temporary.Instead she was currently cross-legged on the library floor surrounded by books, rubbing her eyes tiredly, and I had been watching the same hallway on the security monitor for seven minutes straight."You are staring again."I looked away from the screen immediately.Dante stood across the office with his arms folded and the expression of someone who had already made his conclusions long before this moment arrived."S

LENA'S POVBy the time I reached Jax's floor, my irritation had evolved into full blown fury.Which meant I was no longer thinking clearly.I only realized how insane this looked when I was already standing outside his door coming out fresh from the shower. My hair was dripping water onto my shoulders and my entire body was wrapped in nothing but a towel. Honestly, my barefoot felt soft against the cold hallway floor.I stared at the door for exactly three seconds debating within myself to turn back or go ahead. My anger won anyway so I knocked hard on his door. Silence stretched briefly before the door swung open, and there he was. Jax looked like he had been working for hours. His sleeves were rolled halfway up his forearms and the desk behind him was buried under papers. His expression stayed cold for exactly one second. Then his eyes landed on me and stopped. His gaze moved slowly from my wet hair downward. His eyes slide over the towel. Went lower then back up again. Like he

LENA’S POVThe stupid guards and servants finally returned and while I was expecting them to make my life remotely easy, my life became remotely harder. I realized Jax was making my life difficult on purpose three days after the training room incident. At first, I thought the estate staff were simply nervous around me because they had all heard what happened at the construction site and because people still looked at me differently now.Like they were trying to decide whether I would suddenly lose control again and rip someone apart in the hallway. To be very frank, that affected my self-esteem a great deal. But then strange things started happening to distract me from the problems at hand.At first they were tiny and annoying, making me question if there was something paying them to purposely and slowly irritate me. “This is ridiculous,” I muttered while standing inside the downstairs kitchen. My hair stood at its edges, it was so wild and terrifying that I couldn't even bear to l

LENA'S POV My eyes widened immediately. Oh my God. Did I just…Selene stood up and took a step back instantly, and Jax’s head slowly snapped to my side. I was expecting furry. I thought he would snap and yell at me to stop threatening his girlfriend or retreat back to his cold facade and tell me to stay away from him. Instead, his face slowly turned into something amused. “Interesting,” he murmured and heat rushed to my face like a volcano.“I didn't mean to do that.” I murmured in embarrassment, my eyes full of apology. Selene blinked once and looked between the both of us with a slow and understanding expression.“Oh.” she muttered. Oh? I wanted to die. What the hell did she mean by oh?“I should leave,” she said at once while trying very hard not to smile.“Wait… stop. He's my step brother.” I called after her but she walked away suspiciously fast.Silence crashed heavily into the kitchen afterward and I begged the ground to open up and swallow me. “That did not just happen,”

I heard the sound of two guards making out in the wing at the far end of mine, random heartbeats belonging to various people, footsteps from across entire hallways and even conversations that was happening behind closed doors. And the worst part was that my body was beginning to react before my brain did now.Everything felt sharper, louder, more dangerous and I was becoming unstable. I stood near the kitchen window that morning staring into the forest beyond the estate walls while trying to ignore the overwhelming amount of scents flooding my senses.Especially Jax's.Even from another floor, I could still recognize his s

LENA’S POVI avoided Jax for the rest of the day, or at least I tried to but I couldn't really avoid Jax because he somehow seemed to exist everywhere.I would walk into a room and feel him even before I saw him.It was exhausting.“You are glaring at your food.” someone said. I looked up from my untouched dinner to find Dante watching me from across the table.“I am thinking.”He raised his eyebrow. “About committing a homicide?”“That too.”Dante almost smiled before returning to his drink.Dinner was strangely quiet tonight. Most of the estate guards kept their distance from me now and I didn't really know if it was because of what happened at the construction site. I noticed that every time someone looked at me too long, I remembered the sound of bone snapping beneath my hands. My stomach twisted again.“You should eat,” Dante said eventually.“I am not hungry.” I snapped without meaning to. “That is becoming a habit.”I frowned slightly. How did he know? Then the realization h
