HAYDEN’S POV

I didn’t sleep that night.

It was not because of the message…okay, it was partially because of the message, but mostly because my brain wouldn't shut the hell up about those words he had said.

He is a loud moaner….get headphones.

I wanted to throwup so bad, with the thoughts of him fucking a guy.

Stephen had always been annoying, always smug in a quiet, yet infuriating way, but this was different. This wasn't him losing and licking his stupid wounds as I had expected. There was him flipping the damn script and watching me choke on it.

I stared at the ceiling of the infirmary long after the nurse had dimmed the lights, as my head replayed all the messages sent to the school group chat. The way people rallied around him, as if he were their savior. The way my name kept popping up in the replies, even though I had refused to open them.

Homophobic Bigot.

That was my new title. It was a fucking bandana on my head and I had no way to rip it off.

By morning, my jaw ached badly from clenching it all night.

I packed my things silently, ignoring the studious glances that were thrown my way as I dragged my bags across the campus. The place felt different now, like the walls had grown smaller. I could hear all the whispers, especially coming from a group of girls he had passed by.

“OMG! That’s Hayden. Fuck, he is so hot. But why does he have to be so homophobic?” One girl said.

“ I don't care about that…..I’d totally fuck him. He looks like he has something big and can make a girl get to heaven.” Another girl said.

“Lilian….” The first girl scolded.

Hayden shook his head as he continued his walk to Dorm 1267, which was at the far end of the west wing. It was an old hostel but it was doable. It had a living space, two rooms, a kitchen, and one bathroom.

Stephen was already there.

He had claimed the bigger room already, sprawled out like he owned the room, headphone on, leg bouncing to whatever music he was listening to. He did not look up when I walked into this room, which was almost half done, and it annoyed me.

I dropped my bag on the floor harder than I needed to.

“Take those stupid headphones off.” I snapped.

He did, slowly and with a stupid calm, expression on his face like nothing in the world bothered him.

“Good morning to you too…” he said with a mocking smile. “Did you sleep well?”

I ignored that. “What the hell is fucking wrong with you?”

He blinked. “That’s a broad question. I think you would have to narrow it down.”

“The post, the picture you sent to me, that fucking, stupid message.” I half yelled. “You are doing this on purpose.”

Stephen smiled, “Of course I am.”

I took a step forward before I could stop myself. “You are trying to make me look like some kind of monster.”

He shrugged, “Well, you did that all by yourself.” He replied nonchalantly. “I just…..clarified the whole situation.”

Fuck, I wanted to punch him so bad but I held myself. “You fucking kissed me.” I hissed, lowering my voice even though no one else was around. “You started all of this.”

His eyes flickered to my lips for a split second, “You stole my girlfriend and shoved me into a wall.” He said. “I think we are even.”

“We are not even.”

He shrugged and stood up, crossing the room until he was right in front of me. I tensed automatically, my head screaming for me to step back, but I refused. I wasn't going to give him that satisfaction.

“You are really mad,” he said. “Is it because people like me more now?”

I scoffed. “Please, they will forget you in a week.”

“Maybe…” his voice dropped low, sexy and seductive. “But I don't think you would.”

That did it.

I grabbed my bags and stormed out of the room. “Stay on your side of the dorm. I mean what I said. If you touch me, I swear….”

“I know,” he interrupted gently. “You will stab me in my sleep..woah, very scary.”

I glared at him, while he mocked me. “I am very serious.”

“So am I.” His tone changed, harder than before. “I don't want to touch you, Hayden. You can fucking relax.”

I hated that. It sounded so sincere and I hated it. I had no idea why.

I stormed out of the room, to my own room. I began to unpack with all my anger. Stehen had gone back to do whatever he was doing in his room.

By evening, my phone was still buzzing nonstop. I finally dared to check it and I immediately regretted it.

It was messages from people I barely talked to. Some were angry, others disappointed, while other where plain curious. A few girls I had hooked up with unfollowed me.

I locked my screen and tossed my phone on the couch in the living room and tried to focus on the show airing on the TV. Stephen noticed.

“Tough crowd?” He asked.

“shut up.”

He hummed. “You know, you could just apologize, publicly. It would help alot.”

I laughed, sharp and bitterly. “I have already apologized more than once. That was more than you deserved.”

“Suit yourself.” He focused on his show, “me, I'm having a great week.”

I turned away before I said something that would get me expelled. There was a knock on the door. Stephen smiled wildly and walked up to open it. It was a guy, he was 6’0 feet tall with long blond hair. He was handsome.

He walked up to Stephen and kissed him. I wanted to throw up so badly, as he whispered something into Stephen’s ears which made him giggle.

“Go wait for me inside my room. The door by your left. We are going to have so much fun.” Stephen told the guy, as he kissed him and squeezed his dick, making the guy moan.

I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole.

The blonde guy walked past me, glaring at me. I looked back at Stephen who was smiling. “Well brother, I guess you need those headphones after all.

HAYDEN’S POVAdjusting a bow tie shouldn't have felt harder than executing a perfect sliding tackle in the pouring rain, but my fingers were shaking so violently I nearly ripped the silk."Let me get that before you choke yourself, big guy," Blake’s voice cut through the nervous hum of the dressing room. She stepped forward, a brilliant, knowing smirk firmly on her face as she batted my hands away and expertly fixed the knot. She looked stunning in her bridesmaid gown, though she still possessed that sharp, no-nonsense attitude that had kept us all in line since camp. "Can’t have the star striker looking like he’s being held hostage on his own wedding day.""I'm not nervous about the wedding," I grunted, my voice rough. "I’m just... ready. I’ve been ready for years.""We know, man," Amber said, leaning against the doorframe of the suite right beside her. Amber walked over, resting a hand on my shoulder, while Blake gave my tie one final, satisfied pat. "You two earned this. Every

STEPHEN’S POVThe deafening roar of sixty thousand people vibrating through the stadium turf wasn't just noise… it was a physical force slamming into my chest. The bright, blinding stadium lights cut through the humid evening air, reflecting off the pristine green grass of the United FC home stadium. It was the forty-fourth minute of our very first professional match. The scoreboard overhead read 0-0 against our fiercest conference rivals, the clock ticking down mercilessly toward halftime. The tension in the stadium was taut as a wire, the fans screaming for blood, for a breakthrough, for a sign that the millions of dollars Vanguard had dropped on us wasn't just hype.My lungs were burning, my jersey soaked through with sweat as I marked my run down the left flank. The opposing center-back was tight on me, his shoulder digging into my ribs, trying to crowd my space and cut off my passing lanes. Then, across the pitch, my eyes locked onto the number nine jersey. It was Hayden. He h

STEPHEN’S POVIf you had told me two months ago that I’d be standing on the floor to ceiling glass balcony of a multi million dollar penthouse in the heart of the city, looking down at a skyline that actually belonged to my future, I would have told you to go fuck yourself. But here I was.The air up here tasted different. It didn't carry the suffocating, heavy humidity of our old camp or the rancid stench of the scandals that had threatened to bury us alive. It felt sharp, clean, and expensive as hell.Vanguard Group hadn't played around when they finalized our pre-draft corporate acquisition. The moment Hayden and I signed those United FC tier-one affiliate contracts, the corporate handlers essentially handed us the keys to this high-rise paradise. It was a massive, sprawling concrete-and-glass flex of a penthouse, meant to keep their new "assets" comfortable, secure, and entirely isolated from the bullshit below.I leaned against the sleek black steel railing, taking a slow sip

HAYDEN’S POV:The bass from that fucking campus club was still rattling around inside my skull, matching the rhythmic, heavy throb of the tequila flowing through my veins. It was our last night in this godforsaken town. Our last night in this camp before we packed up every single piece of baggage literal and emotional and drove the hell out of here toward the United FC facility. We had spent the last four hours drinking like the world was ending, celebrating the fact that we were finally free. The group had fractured in the best fucking way possible around midnight. Amber had been eyeing some tall, dark-haired guy by the bar who actually looked at her like she was a person and not a headline, and by one o’clock, she’d given us a sloppy, triumphant wave before trailing him out the front door. Ten minutes later, Blake had hooked her arm through some regular from the gym, looking entirely ready to take whatever she wanted for the night and leave no survivors. That left Stephen and me

HAYDEN’S POVMy forehead was still resting against Stephen’s, the steady, rhythmic warmth of his breathing anchoring me to the locker room floor, when the heavy metal door of the facility rattled on its hinges.A few weeks ago, a sudden noise would have had us breaking contact instantly, hearts racing with the panicked, defensive instinct to hide what we were. But today, with the weight of two professional contracts sitting on the wooden bench behind us, I kept my hands firmly on Stephen's hips, turning my head just enough to see who was invading our space.Blake walked in first. Her usual high energy cheer posture was completely gone, replaced by a loose, almost breathless exhaustion. But it was her face that made me pause. Her jaw was slack, her eyes wide and glittering under the harsh fluorescent lights.Right behind her was Amber. She was holding her phone tightly against her chest, her fingers trembling so violently against the plastic case that I could hear the faint click of h

STEPHEN’S POV:The silence of the locker room after everyone else had cleared out was deafening, a stark contrast to the thunderous roar that had been vibrating through my skull just an hour ago. The smell of damp grass, sweat, and deep-heat liniment still clung to the air, but the chaotic energy of the match had finally settled into something thick and heavy. My phone vibrated violently against the wooden bench next to me.I picked it up, my hands still slightly trembling from a combination of lingering adrenaline and pure exhaustion. It was an email. My eyes scanned the header, and my breath hitched instantly in my throat.OFFER OF PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT / NOMINATION FOR THE SENIOR LEAGUE DRAFT PINNACLEFrom: Vanguard Athletics & Sporting Group (Consortium for United FC)My heart hammered against my ribs, a fierce, frantic rhythm that made me dizzy.
