POV: ELI

Something feels wrong before I can put a name to it, and it crawls up my spine while I am still pretending the day is normal.

I am halfway down the street when my feet just stop.

I don’t decide to stop. They just do.

Someone almost walks straight into my back.

“Dude,” a guy mutters, pissed.

“Sorry,” I say automatically, stepping aside, but my eyes are already moving, already counting.

Too many people not moving.

Too many people doing nothing on purpose.

A guy leaning on a light pole, p

  • ROGUE BLOOD   CHAPTER 20: BLOOD STILL COUNTS

POV: GUSThe message comes in while I’m drinking bad coffee and waiting for a signal that will make me go after Eli. It’s not dramatic. That’s the worst part. No explosion. No scream. Just a knock at the door and one of the witches standing there with her eyes too steady and her mouth too tight.“What is it?”“We were tracking Arachne and we saw that she met up with Eli today at the market.”That's strange.“I wants aware they even knew each other. What would they have to discuss together?”“You’re going to want to sit,” she says.I don’t.“You don't tell me what to do. Talk.”.She hesitates, and that alone makes my stomach turn. Witches love drama. If she’s hesitating, it means this is real.“She was pregnant,” she says. “When she died?”My ears ring.“What?” I say, because my brain trips over the sentence like it doesn’t know how words work anymore. “Who was pregnant?” I ans even though I know who she is talking about. My gut already knows.“Helena, your siser” she says quietly. “S

  • ROGUE BLOOD   CHAPTER 19: TOO CLOSE

POV: ELISomething flashes wrong before I even open my eyes.I have been feeling this way ever since Arachne magicked me out of her house that day.It is not loud. It is not dramatic. It is worse than that.It is quiet.Too quiet. The constant pull I live with, the background noise that never shuts up, the steady knowing of where Mia is in relation to me, it just drops out. All at once. Like a limb falling asleep without warning. Like part of me got cut off and forgot to scream.I sit up in bed so fast my head spins. My wolf slams against my ribs, confused and sharp. What happened.I press my hand to my chest and breathe in through my nose, slow, controlled, because panic never fixes anything, and because I am Alpha, and because I am supposed to have control even when my insides are a mess.“She’s still there,” I mutter under my breath. “She has to be.”My wolf does not answer the way it usually does.It circles. Uneasy. Restless.Something shifted. Not snapped. Not broke.Shifted.An

  • ROGUE BLOOD   CHAPTER 18: WRONG FEELINGS

POV: MIAI wake up already tired. Not the kind where you did not sleep enough but the kind that sits on your chest and does not move. Like something heavy climbed inside me overnight and decided to stay.My room looks the same but it feels wrong. Too quiet. Too clean. Like it belongs to someone else now.I stare at the ceiling and try to breathe but it comes out uneven, and my chest hurts in this dull slow way, and I hate that this is how my mornings start now.Helena.The name sits there, loud and quiet at the same time.My mother.I still do not know how to say that without my stomach twisting.I roll onto my side and curl up, pulling my knees in because that feels safer, and I press my face into my pillow like maybe I can disappear into it.Nothing happens.Of course nothing happens.I wait for it though. Some sign. Some pull.Something

  • ROGUE BLOOD   CHAPTER 17: YOUR MOTHER’S NAME

POV: ARACHNESilence stops being safe on the third day.I know it the second I hear Mia stop pacing. She has been walking the house nonstop since she woke up, not loud, not angry, just restless, like an animal that knows the room is too small but does not know where the door is. She touches the walls like they might shift. She flinches at sounds that never used to bother her. She laughs at the wrong moments and then freezes like she regrets making noise at all.Now she is sitting on the couch.Still.Knees pulled up. Arms wrapped tight around herself. Staring at nothing. That scares me more than her yelling ever did.“Mia,” I say, and I hate how calm my voice sounds because my chest feels tight, like it is folding in on itself. She looks at me slowly, like even turning her head takes effort.“You are going to tell me now,” she says. “Or I am going to lose my mind.”I close the door beh

  • ROGUE BLOOD   CHAPTER 16: AFTER

POV: MIAI wake up to a feeling like I am dying.Like actually dying, not dramatic dying, real dying, because my body jerks so hard I think I fell off something, like a cliff or a building or out of the world, but I am still in my bed. My mouth is open wide and I am screaming, I know I am, my chest is trying to rip itself open, but nothing comes out. No sound. Just air. Just panic stuck in my throat. My heart is going insane. It is beating too fast and too hard and it hurts, it really hurts, like it is slamming into my ribs on purpose. My chest feels tight, like wire is wrapped around it and someone keeps pulling and pulling and does not care if it snaps. My skin burns and buzzes at the same time and I can feel everything. The sheets. Every wrinkle. Every stupid little thread scratching me like it is alive.Something inside me feels open.Raw.Like it got torn apart and nobody bothered to put it back.I stare at the

A woman on a bench who keeps looking up every time I pass her line of sight. A car parked at the curb with the engine still running and no one getting out.My jaw tightens.Gus.Not here. Not standing in front of me. But close enough that the air feels tight, like I am breathing through cloth.I start walking again and I keep my pace normal because rushing looks guilty and slowing down looks scared, and I am not givin
