Elle's POV

“I still don’t understand why you’re still living with that man. You’ve been married for a year, Elle, but he still doesn’t consider you his wife,” my best friend Gemma said.

I took a sip of my coffee before answering. “We are married, Gem. We promised in front of God that we would be together forever, through thick and thin.”

Gemma rolled her eyes. “Excuse me, it should be ‘you promised,’ not ‘we.’ Because we both know that it was only you and your husband’s family who wanted the two of you to get married. If Amanda and Samuel hadn’t pressured him, he definitely wouldn't have agreed to marry you.”

I pouted at what she said. “Do you really need to remind me of that?”

She rolled her eyes again. “If only I could remind you every day that Navid doesn’t love you.” Gemma sighed. “Why are you putting up with him? There are many other men out there, Elle. Men who will love you, will take care of you, and willappreciate you.”

“But I won’t feel the same way about them,” I answered quickly.

I smiled bitterly as I looked at the cup of coffee in front of me. “I love Navid, Gemma. And of all people, you know best how much I love him. Yes, it hurts. It hurts to think that he can’t love me and that he was forced to marry me. But what can I do? My love for him is still stronger. The love I feel for him is stronger than the pain he gives me.”

Gemma’s face scrunched up. “You know what? If there were an award for being a fool and a martyr wife, you’d probably be one of the nominees.”

I laughed softly at what she said and shook my head.

“I hate you,” I said, pouting once again.

Gemma grinned. “But my husband loves me.”

I pouted even more. “You really are a good friend, aren’t you?” I said sarcastically. “Instead of cheering me up, you’re just bringing me down. So much for being a best friend.”

Gemma laughed out loud. “I’m just telling the truth. My husband really loves me.”

I snorted. “Alright, the luckiest wife in the world. You’re the one with a loving husband. You’re the lucky one when it comes to love. You got it all.”

Gemma’s laughter grew louder. “I really am.”

“Should I bow down to you?”

She grinned. “I mean, I wouldn't say 'no' to that.”

I shook my head again at her incredulity. But then sadness started creeping up inside my heart, making a bitter smile appear on my face.

If only I were as lucky as Gemma when it came to love.

My gaze shifted to my phone beside my coffee when it suddenly lit up.

I picked it up and read the message from my mother-in-law.

After reading it, I stood up and slung my bag over my shoulder.

Gemma looked up at me, frowning as she held her cup. “Where are you going? ”

“Amanda just texted me. She wants me at the mansion.” I leaned closer and kissed her cheek. “I’m leaving. See you next time,” I said before walking out of the coffee shop, not even waiting for him to respond.

Gemma’s gaze followed me, still frowning. “Who’s going to pay for your coffee?” she called out loudly, but I just waved at her with a triumphant smile.

She called my name again, but I didn’t look back anymore, until I was completely outside.

I couldn’t help but chuckle. She would definitely call me later and scold me again.

I could already imagine how shrill her voice would be.

“What are you doing there? You look stupid, smiling all by yourself.”

I turned toward the voice and froze when I saw Navid, his hands in his pockets, and his cold eyes fixed on me.

He was standing just a few steps away.

“Navid,” I called out in disbelief.

He turned his back on me and started walking. “Let’s go. They’re all waiting for us.”

I remained stunned as I watched him.

I couldn’t believe he was here. Was he picking me up?

I couldn’t help but feel giddy at the thought.

Navid glanced back at me, his gaze still cold. “How long do you plan to just stand there?”

I flinched slightly at his tone.

Our eyes met, and without thinking, I placed a hand over my chest as my heartbeat quickened.

He turned away again. “If you don’t want to come with me, just say it. Stop wasting my time.”

My eyes widened as he started walking again.

I hurried after him. “Navid, wait,” I called, but he didn’t look back.

He kept walking until he reached his car, and I followed closely behind.

When I got there, he was already inside, seated in the driver’s seat. One hand rested on the steering wheel while the other held his phone to his ear. He was on a call.

He said something I couldn’t hear from outside, then ended the call.

He looked at me again with those cold, piercing eyes. He rolled down the window slightly. “What? Are you coming or not?”

I quickly opened the passenger door and got in, placing my bag on my lap.

Navid started the engine and drove off.

Silence filled the car. No one spoke. The only sounds were the distant honks of other vehicles.

I wanted to start a conversation. I wanted to ask where we were going. I wanted to ask if his mom had asked him to pick me up.

But I knew it would be useless.

He wouldn’t answer me. He never liked it when I asked questions.

So it was better to stay quiet.

Otherwise, I might ruin his mood, and I didn’t want that to happen.

I didn’t want him to get angry at me again… even though he was almost always angry with me.

Navid's POVIt was crazy. Unbelievably crazy.I thought I was overdoing such things, that I would not enjoy them anymore like I used to—like when I was younger—but oh boy, I was wrong. The rides in the amusement park and the interactive games brought me back to my childhood and teenage days. It was more fun than I would like to admit. But more than that, it also reminded me of how much I had That was why I was so disappointed when she said that she wanted to leave and go somewhere else instead. I did not allow the disappointment to show on my face, though. I made sure I looked cool and unbothered even though, deep inside, I wanted to stay. And I swore I left my heart in it when we left.I knew I was being dramatic, and I usually wasn't. But everything we did inside the amusement park gave something to me—something that I thought I had already lost but turned out to be only hidden because I had to be the perfect son my father wanted me to be.I was so busy with work and so busy wantin

Elle's POV"Oh my, Gooooood!" I screamed in the loudest voice I was able to produce.Excitement, thrill, and happiness filled my body. It had been such a long time since I'd felt all those positive feelings and emotions that I couldn't stop myself from grinning. And Navid seemed to be feeling the same way. Because surprisingly, he looked like he was enjoying it too. Of course, there was no smile or a big grin on his face like I had—or at least not when I was looking. Because I knew that every time he believed I wasn't looking, or whenever he was enjoying it too much, he was losing his focus and composure; his lips would stretch into a genuine smile and his face would radiate with happiness.I kept pretending I didn't notice, though. I didn't want him to stop. I wanted him to continue enjoying himself, which was something he stopped doing even before we got married, because he focused on proving himself to his father.

Navid's POVI was beyond pissed. My heart felt like it was exploding, and I wanted to lash out at someone or something—anything to get the anger out of my system. But I couldn't, and it was fucking killing me.Why was Kento here? He said it was a coincidence, but I hardly believe it. Something inside me, my guts, was telling me that he had planned it, that we, or more like, Elle, were the reason why he was here. But why? Has he developed feelings for Elle? I knew Kento very well. I knew Elle was his type of woman, the kind he gets attracted to. But he was also the type that wouldn't make a move on a woman that was already taken, especially if it was my wife—at least on paper. I was his fucking best friend, for fuck's sake! But what made me angrier was Elle's reaction when Kento left. Because why the hell was she looking at him, never taking her eyes off of him? I also saw the change in her reaction when my best friend winked

Elle's POV"Hey, lovebirds!" Kento said when he finally reached us, a huge grin plastered on his face."What are you doing here?" Navid asked instead, his eyes filled with wonder.I had the same question. What was Kento doing here?We did not talk about this. I did not ask him to be here. This was not part of our plan!Kento settled his gaze on me, then grinned. His eyes were full of mischievousness, letting me know that he was up to something. I just didn't know if it was something good or if it was the other way around.Hopefully, it was the latter.A growl from Navid made us turn our attention to him. But Navid was only looking at Kento. Something in his eyes told me that he didn't approve of Kento's sudden appearance. But why? Shouldn't he be happy? He doesn't want to be alone with me.Unless he's... No. That's not it. I mean, he hated me. So why would he be jealous?God. That was such a ridiculous thought.Still, my stupid heart couldn't help but wish that was the case."Are you

  • ROMANCING MY HUSBAND (ENGLISH VERSION)   CHAPTER 17

Navid's POVMy jaws were clenched while my eyes were set on Elle, who was still holding my wrist tightly, not wanting to give me a chance to get away from her.I was having mixed emotions right at that moment. I was surprised, confused, annoyed, and pissed all at the same time. Because why the hell was she acting like a completely different person? What happened to her? What gave her the motivation, the drive, to go against me?Besides her asking me to go sightseeing with her, she was still the same timid and submissive woman yesterday and even this morning. So what changed for her to suddenly be brave and do things she usually would never do?"Let go of me, Elle," I tried again for the hundredth time, but she gave me the same treatment—she ignored me.I cursed in silence, anger bubbling inside my chest. I don't use force on her, no matter how much I hate her, but at that moment, I was itching to use my strength to t

  • ROMANCING MY HUSBAND (ENGLISH VERSION)   CHAPTER 16

Navid's POVThe fact that Elle and Kento were getting close, even exchanging numbers and texting already, hasn't sat right with me.They had just met. So why the hell did my wife, who was never sociable and a complete introvert, manage to be friends with Kento in such a short time? I'm sure it was Kento doing the first move, befriending Elle. That man was the total opposite of Elle. He's loud, overly energetic for some reason, and overly friendly as well. Not to mention that he always has this 'kind aura' around him that instantly pulls people towards him. Still, it would usually take at least a couple of days before people warm up to him and become very comfortable around him. And yet, it seemed to be the other way with Elle, if I were going to base it on how she was smiling while still texting Kento back.I hissed in annoyance, which immediately caught Elle's attention. But before she could look, and I got caught, I turned my head rig
