CHAPTER 7

" You ungrateful little twerp!!"

Alan settled his calm eyes on the aged man sitting on one of the luxurious sofas, accompanied by two women. He blinked silently in confusion, his head tilting slightly to the side.

"After all i've done raising you..... You still dared to commit such a crime, embezzling company funds." - The man heaved angrily, his tired eyes reddening in fury. "I never knew my Gu family would one day raise a white - eyed wolf and that it would be you of all people."

He picked up another fine, porcelain tea cup, this time aiming for Alan's head. "I'd rather kill you now,than let you embarrass me anymore in the future!!"

"Chairman Gu, don't be so reckless!!. You will only end up making the matter worse." - The older lady held the old man's hand, preventing him from hurling the porcelain cup at the still- perplexed Alan.

" Yes, Father..... brother might have fallen short in many ways, but he's still your son and the heir to Gu's group. You've got to keep your temper at bay, don't be rash about this."

Alan stared at the young miss with narrowed eyes, her sickly - sweet voice ringing clearly in his ears. Though it sounded like she was pleading on his behalf - He couldn't shake off the feeling that she was indirectly egging the old man on.

" My son?!." - Chairman Gu stood, tapping his wooden cane on the ground two times. He pointed at Alan,his fingers trembling with anger. "I don't have a son like him!!. Never missing any opportunity to make trouble wherever he goes and always bringing shame to the family, i'm tired of having a son like this bastard!!"

Alan ducked to the left, nimbly avoiding the old man's attack. He sighed regretfully - as he'd suspected, she was only adding more fuel to the fire.

The older lady who seemed to be in her mid - forties sighed, softly patting the old man's back. She stared at the broken shards on the floor with a regretful look - There goes another antique piece!!. She really had to place the chairman's anger under control before he destroys every expensive piece in the manor.

" Chairman Gu, it would be unfair to treat him like this when he hasn't had the chance to explain himself." - Lady Gu calmed the old chairman, settling him back on the sofa.

" Father, I concur with Mom. Why don't we let brother explain?, i'm certain that he had his own reasons for embezzling such huge amounts from the company?" - The young miss spoke softly, slowly massaging the old man's arms.

She glanced at Alan, her lips curved in a cunning arc. How would this brother of hers provide an explanation?, she wanted to see it too.

Tch!!, these two were clearly setting him up!!.

Alan clenched his fists, his fingers digging deep into his palms. Damn it!, he had ever only been an artist. He barely knew anything about the terms of running a company, how was he supposed to defend himself?.

Old man Gu stared at Alan, a small scoff escaping his bearded lips. "He doesn't look like he can say anything in his defense. He's just too useless, way too useless!!" - He tapped his cane three times, his aged face scowling regretfully.

Alan shut his eyes,he had worked so hard to reduce some points. And yet,they were piling up again. He parted his lips slightly , taking a stance - "I didn't do it."

"You didn't do it?!. They're evidences against you, pointing that you embezzled funds and all you can say for yourself, is just that?!." - Chairman Gu fumed, veins bulging from his head as he cussed out. "Giving birth to you must be my own undoing, you....you -"

He stopped abruptly, coughing violently as he clutched his chest.

"Old Chairman Gu!!"

"Father!!"

Alan stood aside, watching the two women rush to the old man's aid, concern etched on their faces. A bitter feeling swelled up in his heart, he lowered his eyes - letting the suffocating emotion clasp over him like a dark cloak. His new solace - his unending disappointment.

"Brother, you might not understand the gravity of the situation. But the embezzled funds we're looking at is totaling up to a billion dollars,this is no small amount!!." - The young miss spoke with an air of superiority, carrying herself with a graceful charm.

Her aim?. It was simple, make Alan inferior to her in every way possible.

"Without that fund, our company will be bound to face serious turbulence with the next project. It's necessary to recover those funds, that's why we need you to tell us where you kept the looted money." - She continued, her voice echoing with authority.

Alan turned, his gaze locking on to Miss Gu's presumptuous figure. So that was her aim! - She wanted him to take the fall and confess to a crime he didn't commit. Thereby making him the scapegoat while she basked in the spotlight - Such cunning!

He gazed at her with sarcastic eyes, a small scoff escaping his lips. He suspected that she had a hand behind the 'embezzled funds ' scheme. But how could he prove it without any substantial proof.

Miss Gu turned to the recovered old chairman, "Father, as long as brother is willing. We'll be able to recover that money with little to no issues at all."

Old chairman Gu nodded his grey - haired head slowly, showing no objections with what his daughter had said.

"Our Amelia is smart and full of ingenuity, i'm certain that she'll be able to bring back the stolen money. But it also depends on Alan's willingness too, i see it as a chance for the two siblings to work together. What do you think of it, Chairman Gu? "- Lady Gu spoke softly, her words flowing like smooth velvets. Easily melting hearts and stirring whirlpools where it shouldn't.

" Hmph!!." - Old Gu stared at his unrepentant son with a snort." Listen, even after everything you've done.... Your little sister is still a bit willing to help correct your misdeeds. Quit being stubborn, and just tell her where you kept it." - The Old man eyed Alan, shaking his head in disappointment.

Alan let out an ironic laugh -  Playing the merciful act?!. His eyes lingered on the three..... Sorry, but he didn't care for their fake, filial acts. "I'm certain that none of you heard me the first time, so i'm going to say it again. I didn't embezzle any funds.... but i'm going to find out who did!!"

Amelia shot Alan a strange look. This was so unlike him, the former Alan would have cowered away, easily taking the blame for everything. But here he was, absolutely refusing to let the matter slide easily. It's like he'd changed.

"You......-" Old man Gu tapped his cane against the tiled floors in anger.

"Father,let him be. It's good to see that brother has the right sense of justice, since he believes that he's been wrongly accused. We can just let him do as he pleases." - Amelia curled her bright, glossy lips - a dark glint flashing through her eyes.

Finding out the true culprit?, That was hers to decide.
