The gunshot shattered the silence like a thunderclap.

I didn’t think—my body reacted before my mind could catch up.

Move.

I dove behind a stack of rusted crates as the shot echoed through the warehouse. My breath came fast and sharp as I pressed my back against the cold metal.

Another shot rang out, this one sparking against the concrete floor near Nolan’s feet.

I peeked out just in time to see him move—his body twisting as he pulled his own gun from his jacket. He wasn’t running. He wasn’t hiding.

He was aiming.

At who?

I couldn’t tell.

The warehouse was too dark, the shadows stretching long and deceptive. The only light was the flickering bulb above us, offering nothing but disorientation.

Footsteps.

More than one set.

Who the hell else was here?

Nolan fired a shot in return, his expression calm—too calm for someone who had just been ambushed.

I didn’t trust him, but I also knew one thing for certain.

Whoever was shooting at us wasn’t working for him.

Because if they were, I’d alrea

  • RUTHLESS BILLIONAIRE EX-HUSBAND CHASED ME BACK   CHAPTER 197

The embossed invitation arrived in a black envelope, sealed with crimson wax.You are cordially invited to the auction of the century.Palais des Nations, Geneva. Midnight.Dress code: Blood and diamonds.Jeff crushed the card in his fist. "It's a trap."Nolan spun the accompanying flash drive on the table. "Or a surrender. Daniela's network is crumbling—Interpol raided three of her labs this week."Claudette set down her tea with a clatter. "Then why walk into her spectacle?"I met Jeff's gaze across the table. "Because she's offering something we want."The drive's contents played across the screen—a vault filled with rows of cryo-chambers. Each held a sleeping Lazarus subject. The camera panned to a control panel: *TERMINATION SEQUENCE INITIATED - 72:00:00*Daniela's recorded voice purred: "Come to my party, Demi. Let's negotiate their lives."The Palais des Nations glittered like a knife.Chandeliers dripped crystal above a sea of tuxedos and couture gowns. Security patrolled in w

Daniela's body hadn't even hit the floor before Jeff was at my side, his knife slicing through the restraints. His hands trembled as they brushed over my arms, my face—checking for injuries."She didn't hurt you?"I shook my head, still staring at Daniela's lifeless form. The syringe had rolled from her fingers, its contents now seeping into the concrete.Jeff followed my gaze, his jaw tightening. "She wasn't trying to save anyone." He pulled a tablet from his pocket, swiping to a video file. "Nolan found this in her Berlin safehouse."The screen showed a different room, another surgical table. But the girl strapped down wasn't an original—she was a clone. One of mine.Daniela's voice rang out from the recording: "The flaw isn't in our DNA. It's in theirs."The camera panned to show rows of incubation tanks, each holding a familiar face.Jeff's finger paused the video. "She wasn't harvesting you to cure the originals." His voice dropped to a whisper. "She was perfecting the clones."A

The interrogation room door hissed open.Daniela didn't look up as I entered, just traced idle circles on the steel table with a fingertip. Up close, the resemblance was uncanny—same arch of the brows, same slight crook in the nose from what might have been a long-ago break. But where my hands bore callouses from a decade of weapon drills, hers were soft. Untouched."You're taller than I expected," she said without looking up. Her voice was my own, but lighter. Unburdened.Jeff moved to stand behind me, his presence a solid wall at my back. Nolan and Elise hovered near the door, tension radiating off them in waves.Daniela finally lifted her gaze. "Do you remember the orange tree outside our bedroom window? How the branches would scrape against the glass during storms?"A fragment surfaced—wind howling, the scent of citrus, small hands clutching mine beneath a blanket fort.I clenched my fists. "Those aren't my memories.""Of course not." Daniela leaned forward, her dark eyes gleaming

Dawn painted the lake in molten gold as I slipped from bed, careful not to wake Jeff. He slept like the dead—one arm still curled around the space where I'd been, his dark lashes casting shadows on cheeks that had finally lost their hollowed-out look after days of Claudette's relentless feeding. The wooden floors were cool under my bare feet as I padded to the window. Below, the gardens stretched toward the water in a riot of roses and lavender. And there, near the old stone fountain—A figure in white. My hand flew to the knife I kept under my pillow before remembering Claudette had confiscated it last night ("Mon Dieu, child, you'll slice your thighs to ribbons!").The figure turned. Not an enemy.Claudette.She cradled something in her arms, her lips moving in silent prayer as she knelt by the fountain. The morning breeze carried the scent of fresh earth and something sharper—metallic, like...Blood?I was halfway to the door when Jeff's hand closed around my wrist."Don't." His vo

The car ride to Geneva passed in a haze of exhaustion and quiet touches. Lena slept curled against Jeff's side, her small fingers tangled in his torn shirt. Mara dozed in my lap, her breathing steady for the first time in days. Outside the windows, the Alps gave way to rolling green hills and the occasional glimpse of Lake Geneva's sparkling waters.Jeff's hand found mine in the space between the seats, his thumb tracing slow circles on my skin. Neither of us spoke. Words felt too heavy, too fragile for the weight of everything we'd survived.Nolan broke the silence first. "We're here."The car turned onto a private drive lined with towering cypress trees. At the end stood a sprawling stone villa overlooking the lake, its shutters painted a soft blue, ivy creeping up the walls.Jeff stiffened beside me."Where is this?" I asked softly."A safe place," Nolan said, but his eyes flicked to Jeff in a silent question.Jeff exhaled through his nose. "My aunt's house."His aunt. The realizat

The monolith wasn't glass—it was ice.A thousand frozen faces stared back at us through the glacier's translucent walls, each suspended in their own private hell. Children. Dozens of them, all with familiar features—Jeff's sharp jawline, my dark eyes, Saskia's high cheekbones.Lena pressed against my leg. "Are they sleeping?"Saskia's breath fogged the air as she placed her palm against the ice. "They're waiting."Jeff's fingers found mine, his grip almost painful. "For what?"The doors slid open with a hiss of pressurized air."For you, Lieutenant."The voice came from a figure shrouded in shadow at the chamber's heart. As he stepped into the light, Nolan recoiled."Father."The man looked nothing like the monster I'd imagined. Gaunt, silver-haired, with Jeff's piercing blue eyes. His lab coat hung loose on his frame, the name Ryans stitched over a heart monitor's steady blip.He smiled at me. "Hello, Daniela."My birth name hit like a bullet.Jeff stepped between us, his body a shie
