Chapter 4

Author: Buff Aurora
The other diners began shooting us strange looks, whispering among themselves and pointing in our direction.

I wiped the water from my face and fixed Jason with a cold stare. "Jason, there are security cameras around the pool."

Jason froze for a moment before raising his voice even louder. "You probably bribed whoever's in charge of the cameras, too! You've got money and power. You can fake anything you want! Life has been so unfair to me."

Mom sighed. "Enough arguing. Get to the hospital, both of you! It's freezing out here, and we don't want either of you coming down with pneumonia."

And just like that, all four of us ended up back at the hospital.

My adoptive parents rushed around, fetching hot water one moment and taking care of hospital bills and prescriptions the next.

While they were out paying the bills, Jason and I were left alone in the hospital room.

He'd been lying weakly in bed, groaning in discomfort, but the moment my adoptive parents left, he sat straight up.

He yanked the IV needle out of the back of his hand and walked barefoot over to my bed. A sinister smile, far too vicious for someone his age, spread across his pale face.

"Well, Daniel? What do you think of that?"

I leaned against my headboard and looked at him calmly. "Not bad. Better than getting yourself electrocuted by your own cheap surveillance camera."

"You!" Jason was so furious he could barely get the word out. He glared at me viciously before continuing, "Let me tell you something. I'm not like those idiotic heirs who just accept whatever happens to them. I've read more novels than you've eaten grains of salt! I know all the tricks you self-righteous impostors pull.

"Do you think acting like nothing's wrong will erase the fact that you stole my life?"

He leaned toward me threateningly. "You'd better listen up. You can't keep fooling my parents forever! Blood comes first, after all. Sooner or later, they'll choose me over you!"

The more he talked, the more worked up he became, until he was practically jabbing a finger in my face.

"I'll make sure you get kicked out of this family! I'll ruin your reputation and leave you with absolutely nothing!"

Watching him carry on like a rabid dog, I suddenly found the whole thing rather amusing.

"Jason," I said calmly, "do you really think that if you drive me out, everything this family owns will automatically belong to you?"

"Obviously!" Jason sneered. "I'm the only one in this family who shares their blood. Everything belongs to me in the first place!

"What business does an adopted orphan have clinging to this family? You've done nothing but live off my parents' charity, land yourself a decent job, and wear a few designer labels. And now you actually think you're part of high society?"

He lifted his chin proudly, as if he'd already won. "Daniel, you need to know your place. You're nothing but a parasite!"

Just then, the door handle turned. My adoptive parents were back from paying the bills.

Jason's expression changed in an instant. He rolled his eyes and crumpled to the floor, as though someone had shoved him.

Noticing the strange atmosphere in the room, my adoptive parents looked at me in confusion and asked what had happened.

I sighed and glanced at Jason with an exasperated look. "Jason called me a parasite and told me to get out of this family."

Jason clearly hadn't expected me to repeat his words so bluntly in front of my adoptive parents. His eyes widened in shock.

After all, based on the novels he'd read, this was the moment when an adopted impostor was supposed to play the victim and resort to underhanded tactics to win the parents' sympathy.

"You're lying!" Jason shouted. "You're the one who's been bullying me, and you pushed me!"

"Then let's check the security footage and see who's telling the truth."

I pointed toward the inconspicuous camera mounted in the corner of the hospital room.

Jason's face stiffened, and for the first time, he looked genuinely panicked.

I let out a cold laugh, pulled out my phone, and dialed a number. "Hello, Dr. Williams? This is Daniel Miller. Send me the security footage from VIP Room 302 covering the last ten minutes. Yes, right now."

After hanging up, I turned to Jason, who was staring at me in utter disbelief, and spoke in a calm, even tone.

"Oh, I forgot to mention that Miller Group owns 51% of this private hospital. I'm its largest shareholder, which means I have the right to access every security camera and every piece of data here whenever I want."

Jason spent the night at the police station. Since the incident wasn't considered particularly serious and Mom pleaded on his behalf, he wasn't held for long. The police gave him a stern warning and a lengthy lecture before finally letting him go. But by the time he walked out of the station, his world had changed completely. He was no longer the long-suffering biological heir who'd supposedly been robbed of his rightful place. Instead, he'd become the internet's favorite laughingstock: a delusional wannabe rich kid and a new breed of beggar.Mom and I brought Dad home from the hospital, and at Mom's insistence, we hired a moving company to help them move out of the mansion. Outside, movers came and went, packing up the belongings that belonged to my adoptive parents and Jason. Truthfully, they didn't own much. All the expensive furniture, decorative pieces, and appliances had been purchased by me, so none of them actually belonged to my adoptive parents or Jason. When Jason f

Jason jumped in surprise, then pointed at the screen and launched into a furious tirade. "Daniel, you have some nerve showing your face here! Hand over the company seal right now, or I'll sue you for embezzlement." He then turned to Mom. "And Mom! Why are you with that outsider? Get back here right now! This is where you belong."Watching her biological son rant and rave on the screen, Mom looked at him with profound heartbreak. She pulled out a thick stack of documents and held them up to the camera. Her voice was hoarse, but every word came through clearly. "Everyone watching, my name is Linda Wilson. I'm Jason's biological mother and Daniel's adoptive mother. Today, I'd like to clear up a few things in front of all of you." The livestream chat immediately flooded with comments."Is the old lady being forced to do this?" "The imposter must be holding her hostage!" Mom ignored the comments and, with trembling hands, held up the first document. "This is Miller Group's b

The ambulance finally arrived, and Mom and I accompanied Dad to the hospital, but Jason didn't come with us. He was too busy popping champagne at the mansion, basking in the adoration of his fans during his livestream, and indulging in his fantasy of being the heir to a wealthy family. At the hospital, Dad finally regained consciousness after receiving emergency treatment. The doctor explained that the episode had been triggered by extreme emotional distress, which had caused his blood pressure to spike, and that he needed plenty of rest and time to recover. Mom sat beside his hospital bed, holding his hand in silence, while I stood by the window, watching the traffic stream past below. Just then, my phone buzzed. It was Josh. "Mr. Miller, we've got a serious problem." Josh kept his voice low, though I could hear a commotion in the background. "Your brother, Jason… He's brought a bunch of people to the company. He's claiming he's the new CEO of Miller Group and its rightful hei

Just then, a commotion erupted outside the front door. The next second, Jason stormed into the house with a large group of people trailing behind him. Among them were livestreamers carrying phone mounts, so-called independent media reporters lugging professional cameras, and several rowdy-looking fans who seemed all too eager to get involved. Holding up his phone to livestream the entire scene, Jason shouted at the top of his lungs, "Listen up, everyone! Today, I'm going to expose this parasite live and take back everything that rightfully belongs to me!" The people he'd brought along didn't even bother putting on shoe covers. They trampled all over the expensive Royal Dynasty Carpet before shoving their cameras and microphones right into my adoptive parents' faces as they sat on the couch, wiping away their tears."Mr. and Mrs. Miller, don't be afraid! Millions of people online are here to stand up for you! Did that imposter threaten you? Just give us a nod, and we'll expose hi

As I watched the number of comments and shares continue to climb, my expression darkened by the second. At the same time, my phone began vibrating nonstop as spam calls and a barrage of harassing text messages flooded in.The head of the company's PR department knocked before hurrying into my office, sweat pouring down his face. "Mr. Miller, the company's stock hit its daily trading limit as soon as the market opened. We've also received calls from numerous business partners demanding to know what's going on. Some have even threatened to terminate their contracts." I rubbed my temples, completely baffled by all the inexplicable hostility. Ever since Jason had moved into our home, I'd never done anything to wrong him. So why was he so determined to treat me like his sworn enemy? But I knew that, at this point, my adoptive parents would be the ones to suffer the most. I immediately put everything else on hold and rushed home. As expected, a heavy, gloomy atmosphere hung over

The room fell deathly silent. Less than three minutes later, the security footage arrived on my phone. I opened the video, turned the volume all the way up, and held the screen out for my adoptive parents to see. The footage clearly showed Jason pulling out his IV needle, walking over to my bed, and viciously threatening me. It also captured him pretending to fall and trying to frame me the moment he heard the door open. His words echoed through the quiet hospital room, each one painfully clear."I'll make sure you get kicked out of this family! I'll ruin your reputation and leave you with absolutely nothing!"After watching the entire video, my adoptive parents' faces turned ashen. They glanced at me, then at Jason, who was huddled in the corner, trembling. "Jason…" Mom sighed helplessly, trying to explain. "Daniel isn't trying to take anything away from you." Dad quickly stepped in to smooth things over as well. "That's right. I know you've spent all these years away from
