Julianna POV

I breathed a sigh of relief as classes for the day ended peacefully and quietly. Scott hadn't bothered me, and I wondered if throwing that chocolate cake at him yesterday had made an impact. Maybe it was the universe's way of intervening.

As I walked down the hallway I heard a faint whisper "Psst Hanna!" I turned to see the Thanes twin boys, Cameron and Caleb staring at me

"Hey, Hanna" Cameron called out.

I wrinkled my forehead confuse" My name is Julianna not Hanna"

Caleb chuckle

Julianna POVDawn came too soon, gray and heavy, like the sky knew what was waiting for us. I hadn’t slept more than an hour. Every time I closed my eyes, the vision returned: Scott’s body on cold stone, blood pooling under him, his chest still. No breath. No heartbeat. Just me standing there, useless, hands shaking with the knowledge that I’d caused it somehow.I packed in silence, small backpack, water, the folded map from the announcement, a spare jacket. The school-issued forest gear felt stiff: dark pants, reinforced boots, a lightweight jacket with red reflective strips for visibility. I caught my reflection in the mirror before I left: eyes shadowed, mouth tight. I looked like someone pretending to be okay.Lyra was already up, humming as she shoved snacks into her bag. “Flag hunt in a creepy forest? This is gonna be fun. You and Solara—try not to set each other on fire, yeah?”I forced a half-smile. “I’ll behave.”She eyed me. “You sure you’re good? You’ve got that ‘I’m smilin

Julianna POVThe cheers from the arena still rang in my ears as I slipped out the side door, the sound fading behind me like smoke. My legs moved on autopilot, carrying me down the corridor while my mind stayed stuck on the vision: Scott’s body crumpled on cold stone, blood spreading beneath him like spilled wine, his sea-green eyes empty and staring at nothing. Every time I blinked, it was there—sharp, vivid, accusing.I pressed my back against the wall outside the training wing, sliding down until I sat on the cool floor. My hands shook. The new technique—the temporal shift—had felt like victory a minute ago. Now it felt like a cruel joke. I could move my body through seconds, dodge fire, reappear behind an opponent. But I couldn’t reach back far enough to pull Scott out of that future. I couldn’t even warn him without sounding insane.Footsteps echoed down the hall.I straightened quickly, wiping my face even though no tears had fallen yet. Scott rounded the corner, still flushed f

Julianna POVI stumbled back to my room, my legs feeling like they belonged to someone else. The vision replayed in my mind like a nightmare I couldn't wake from: Scott on the cold floor, his sea-green eyes staring blankly at the ceiling, blood pooling around him like spilled ink. Crimson everywhere, soaking his shirt, his hair matted with it. And me. Standing over him, helpless, knowing somehow it was my fault. My chest tightened, breath coming in shallow gasps. How could I have seen that? Was it a warning? A certainty? Or did our journey to the past change something? Whatever it was it cracked something open inside me, and now this... this horror was leaking out.I pushed open the door to our shared room, the familiar black-and-white theme doing nothing to ground me. Lyra was lounging on her bed, flipping through a dusty tome on witch lore, her long black hair cascading like a curtain. She glanced up, her fangs glinting in the dim light from the massive TV screen on the wall.“Hey,”

Scott POVThe words hit her like a thunderbolt. Her eyes widened, something deep within her snapping. The entire chamber began to shake, pebbles rattling across the floor. "You... killed him?" she whispered, her voice trembling with building rage. Then louder: "You killed him!"With a guttural cry, she yanked her left hand free, the branched stone chains shattering like glass. Impossible—those were benched stone, it should weaken any elemental! She tore the right one apart next, the fragments crumbling to dust. Power radiated from her, raw and untamed, the air crackling with electricity.Veyra's smirk faltered for the first time. "So this is the power of the Primarch," she said, trying to sound confident. "Guess what? I have it too." She raised the staff high, summoning even more revenants. They surged toward Seraphine in a wave of earth and flame.Seraphine moved like lightning—literally. Bolts of electricity arced from her fingertips, blasti

Scott POVAs we delved deeper into the chamber, the air grew thick and musty, laced with the scent of damp earth and ancient stone. Torchlight flickered against the jagged walls, casting long shadows that danced like specters. Throne led the way, his steps purposeful and unyielding, his the wind swirling faintly around him like a protective cloak. I followed close behind, my heart pounding in my chest, a mix of adrenaline and lingering exhaustion from the time jump. Julianna was right at my side, her eyes wide with determination, but I could sense the strain in her—her mana had only just replenished, and we couldn't afford any slip-ups that might expose who we are.The chamber opened up into a vast cavern, its ceiling lost in darkness. In the center, illuminated by a circle of glowing runes etched into the floor, stood Seraphine. She was chained to a massive pillar of what looked like twisted, veined stone—branched stone, I realized with a chill. Her head hung low, her hair matted and

Scott POVThe fall wasn’t long, but it felt endless.Stone rushed past, then nothing — just darkness and the sudden slam of my body against rock. I hit hard, shoulder first, then rolled. Pain exploded through my ribs, my back, my skull. I lay there for a second, gasping, tasting blood. The cave was small. Rough walls. Low ceiling studded with dull gray veins of benched stone. I knew the moment I tried to summon fire but nothing. Not even a spark. The power just… slid away, like water through fingers. My wind wouldn’t rise. Earth wouldn’t answer. The stone up there was draining me faster than I’d ever felt.I pushed myself up on one elbow. The air was cold, damp, smelling of wet rock and old iron.Footsteps.Slow. Deliberate. Coming closer.A section of the wall slid open, just a narrow slit, wide enough for a face.Veyra.Her eyes gleamed in the dim light. Calm. Almost amused.“I had a feeling you were up to something,” I said. My voice came out rougher than I wanted.“You were right,
