Penulis: Washing Wheat

Chapter 1

Penulis: Washing Wheat
It was 300 years ago, when the ancestor of the Sherwood family—Brindlebay's leading financial magnate—passed by the Infant Mourning Tower and carelessly remarked, "Girls are born burdens—their deaths are no great loss."

His foolish comment brought a generational curse upon every male descendant of the Sherwood family.

Winnie Lowe, my younger twin sister, and I were both blessed women.

In my past life, Mason Sherwood wanted to ask for Winnie's hand in marriage, but I uncovered the truth and did everything I could to stop him, resulting in him being forced to marry me in the end.

Winnie left a suicide note and threw herself off a cliff on the night of our wedding.

Mason harbored deep hatred toward me for it; on the seventh day of Winnie's bereavement period, he commanded his subordinates to suspend me from a helicopter, flying me in the manner of a kite.

I cried as I told him that I had saved him, begging him to spare me.

"Winnie was the one I wanted to marry, Hannah! She could have saved me even if you hadn't been around! Your interference killed her! Go to hell!" Mason's features twisted in rage as he cut the rope, causing me to plummet from the sky and be reduced to a bloody mass.

I opened my eyes and found that I had returned to the very day the Sherwood family came to seek a blessed woman for marriage. I wanted to see how Winnie would save Mason without her sacred grace.

"I want to marry her, Mom and Dad!" Mason pointed to Winnie, who approached gracefully in a white dress, all while shooting me a threatening glare.

I understood then that Mason had been reborn as well.

Winnie shyly brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear and asked gently, "Who are they, Mom and Dad?"

Mom and Dad smiled warmly as they introduced Winnie to the members of the Sherwood family.

I let out a faint, derisive smile. Winnie had obviously been involved with Mason for a long time, so her act was completely unnecessary. I stood up to leave since I didn't want to watch their fake pleasantries any longer.

Mason watched me anxiously, his face twisting with disgust as he said, "You should drop the act and stop saying that nonsense about being the only one who can lift the curse by marrying me, Hannah. I'm never going to marry you, so you might as well give it a rest, you unsightly woman!"

Mason raised his voice even more after getting reprimanded by his parents. "Those so-called curses are absolute nonsense, Mom and Dad! It's already been 300 years, so I refuse to believe that it can still affect me!"

Matt Sherwood, Mason's father, grew furious and smacked Mason on the back of his head. "You don't know a damn thing, you fool!

"You ought to know that the men of the Sherwood family have only survived because every single one of us married a blessed woman! Your 25th birthday is next week—we can't put this off any longer!"

Layla Hall, Mason's mother, was on the verge of crying while saying, "Your father is right, Mason. You see, I am a blessed woman too, which is why your father took me as his wife.

"You ought to know that your father and I have been searching desperately for over two decades to find a blessed woman who matches your age. You can't just throw this away over a tantrum!"

Mason pointed stubbornly at Winnie, declaring, "I'll marry her, then! She's a blessed woman, too! There is absolutely no way I am marrying an ugly freak like Hannah, and if you force me to, I'll go kill myself right now!"

I scoffed, realizing that he had put on such a long show just to silence everyone and get exactly what he wanted.

In my past life, right after Mason announced his intention to marry Winnie, I completely ignored his choice, stood up, and declared gravely, "Mason can't marry Winnie, as she won't be able to save him! I'm the only one capable of doing that!"

Mason flew into a rage right then and there, insulting me by saying I was completely out of his league, while Mom and Dad were highly skeptical of my words as well due to their blatant favoritism toward Winnie.

Layla and Matt were the only ones who decided to force Mason to marry me after a brief discussion; after all, they preferred to play it safe with an unwanted marriage rather than allow any harm to come to Mason.

They had no idea that my blood tie to Winnie as her twin made me the only person capable of seeing her secret. Winnie might have been a blessed woman, but she was utterly unable to save Mason and would instead cause his downfall.

In my past life, after Winnie committed suicide, I intended to tell Mom and Dad the secret about her, but they refused to listen. They even condemned me as wicked, cutting all ties with me on the spot.

Upon hearing that Winnie was pregnant, Mason felt somewhat relieved and pleasantly surprised.Mom and Dad were overjoyed after hearing that. They rushed to the hospital and clasped Winnie's hand, praising her endlessly. "You really make us proud, Winnie!"Winnie, putting the past behind her, hugged them tightly, looking just as close with them as they used to be.I couldn't help but laugh out loud after seeing them wrapped up in their blissful family moment. "How can you all be so sure that the child is actually Mason's?"Layla and Matt were instantly stunned, while Winnie held her stomach and started sobbing. "I know you still resent me for stealing Mason, but we've already paid the price for that, Hannah. I'm begging you—please just leave us alone. I mean, this baby is our only hope, so please don't ruin this for us…"Mason was so furious he nearly bolted upright from his hospital bed. "You'd better stop spouting nonsense this instant, Hannah! That unborn child is definitely min

Mason thought that I loathed him, which was why I hadn't insisted on marrying him as I had in my past life. He recalled our past life again, recalling how he had pushed me away in disgust during our wedding night. He remembered how I had worn a sheer nightgown that night, embracing him while saying, "You have to believe me, Mason. I'm really the only one capable of saving you…"He thought back at how I had been gentle that night, instantly filling the room with a romantic atmosphere. He, however, had treated me cruelly after Winnie's suicide—ordering people to suspend me from a helicopter and then cutting the rope himself, causing me to fall and die horribly. He suddenly realized something. He thought that if Winnie had truly been so promiscuous and carefree with men, she would never have killed herself because of him. He couldn't help but wonder why Winnie had left a suicide note blaming me for everything. Could it be that she had done it on purpose? He became even more uneasy the

Layla suddenly came to a realization. "Do you mean to say that because of Winnie's promiscuity, every single man who has slept with her suffers misfortune?"I nodded, saying, "Mason's current state is just the beginning. He will keep suffering from misfortune from here on out.""You're lying! I don't believe it! I truly never meant to cause you harm, honey!" Winnie broke down entirely, lunging forward toward Mason.Matt grabbed her and yanked her back. "Get the hell away from the Sherwood family, or I'll make sure you don't live to see tomorrow!"Winnie was dragged out by the bodyguards, and even Mom and Dad, who were still kneeling outside the entrance, were driven away together with her.Layla dropped to her knees in front of me, sobbing until she could barely breathe. "Please save Mason, Ms. Hannah! There has to be some method that can restore him to his original appearance!"I helped her back to her feet and said with a sigh, "I really envy Mason for having a mother who loves

Matt bellowed, "We, the Sherwood family, refuse to acknowledge a baneful daughter-in-law such as yourself, Winnie! Get down on your knees!"Just then, Mason, who was lying on the bed, slowly regained consciousness, his eyes filled with overwhelming joy. "Did you come here to save me, Hannah?"Winnie eagerly shuffled forward on her knees to the side of his bed. "You're finally awake, honey! I've made up my mind now—I'll love you and stay by your side for the rest of our lives, no matter what you look like or what becomes of you!"Mason ignored her and spoke to me with great effort instead. "I know I was wrong before this, Hannah. Winnie and I haven't officially registered our marriage yet, so please save me! I'll definitely marry you once I recover and make you the matriarch of the Sherwood family!"Draco's face fell as he pulled me into his embrace. "I'm still standing right here. How dare you covet your own aunt!"Matt's eyes were bloodshot as he gritted his teeth and bowed rever

Upon perceiving my concern for Mason, Matt was so relieved that he kept bowing to me in gratitude. "Mason was brought home last night. He got given a sedative by the family doctor, so he's probably still asleep right now!""I'll go back with you to see him before deciding anything, then!" I hadn't witnessed Mason's miserable condition last night, so I certainly wasn't going to let the matter rest. I then turned to Draco and said, "Let's go together, honey!"Draco smiled as he held my hand. He had mentioned the night before that he had never set foot in Mason's home in his 25 years of life, because the entire Sherwood family had strongly objected to his adoption at the time. They thought Draco would challenge them for the Sherwood family inheritance later on, but since they couldn't change Mason's grandfather's mind, they had no choice but to swallow their resentment and pretend he didn't exist instead.Draco used to stay abroad with Mason's grandfather, so everyone had managed to c

I smiled faintly and said, "You're welcome. I've already witnessed that curse firsthand after all." Draco was slightly bewildered. "Huh? I thought no one in the Sherwood family had actually suffered from the curse in almost 50 years…"I sighed, my thoughts drifting back to my past life. I hadn't believed in the curse back then either. It wasn't until after I died, right before my soul drifted away, that I saw Draco's body after he committed suicide overseas and finally understood that the curse was real. He merely got adopted by Mason's grandfather, but he was still bound by the curse the moment he was recorded in the Sherwood family lineage. That curse had never been bound by bloodline. It was a good thing Draco was so cautious and completely embraced his place in the Sherwood family. If he hadn't tracked me down this time around, he would have been struck by the curse just like Mason."I'm a blessed woman, so it's only natural that I see things in my dreams that others can't,
