Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
I woke up the next day and took out the gold bangle from my bedside table. It was exactly the one that I remembered it to be, and it gleamed brightly under the light.

It was a hefty bangle, too, and it certainly seemed like it was 3.22 troy ounces.

I brought the bangle with me to the hospital first thing in the morning. I then requested for a prenatal checkup and also a thorough examination of my body and health.

The doctors and nurses couldn't help chuckling at that. "You're very healthy, Ms. Owens. Your baby is also very healthy and growing well. You don't have to worry that much about it."

I heaved a sigh of relief. Fortunately, my baby was still healthy inside me, and its nutrients hadn't been sucked away by the baby in Irene's belly yet.

After that, I went to a jewelry store and had a replica of the gold bangle made in-store, with gold of the same purity and weight. Then, I put it into my bag before hurrying straight home.

Irene and Pierre were home for once, which was odd. Usually, at this time of the day, they would have already been out drinking and partying at the bar.

When Irene saw my bare wrist, she was clearly very displeased. However, she couldn't show it plainly on her face, so she spoke aggrievedly, saying, "It was Mom's death anniversary last night. I dreamed about her.

"But all she did was scold me, saying she regretted ever having me as her daughter. She also said that she would never leave anything of her own for me. Did you also dream about Mom last night, Ingrid?"

There was a hint of impatience in her eyes. I met her expectant gaze and nodded.

"I dreamed of Mom yesterday, too. She said that she left a gold bangle for me."

"Why aren't you wearing it, then? You can't possibly let Mom down!"

Irene grabbed my hand urgently, her face contorted with rage.

I retrieved the bangle from my bag and began putting it on for her. "I know that Mom didn't mean what she said about you. You know that you've always been her favorite child growing up. You deserve all the nice things. I'll just give the bangle to you."

Irene got a fright and stumbled backward, frantically waving her hands. "No way! Mom left that especially for you! I can't possibly take it away from you!"

While speaking, she suddenly grabbed my hand forcefully, snatched the bangle away with her other hand, and forced it over my knuckles and onto my wrist. She didn't stop even though her nails dug so deeply into my flesh that the skin broke, causing blood to trickle out.

She only heaved a sigh of relief after seeing the bangle firmly around my wrist.

"This is Mom's gift to you, so you must cherish it and wear it properly! Who knows, maybe it will even bring health and blessings for your baby too!"

Her tone was sarcastic as she spoke. Then, she turned around coldly and grabbed a bottle of whiskey before returning to her room.

I waited until the sounds of Irene and Pierre's loud and lewd lovemaking could be heard from their room before going out and knocking on the neighbor's door.

I then slid the cursed bangle around the ferociously barking and snarling rabid dog at the door before returning to my room to continue with my aerobic exercises.

Paul and Rose came back in the evening.

At the dinner table, Rose's face was solemn as she asked Irene, "What's with both of you being so rowdy with each other every day like this? Are you not planning to give birth to my grandchild anymore?"

Irene exchanged a glance with Pierre before both of them turned their calculating eyes toward me.

"Don't worry about it, Mom. Our baby will definitely be a very healthy boy," Irene replied. "Why don't you tell Ingrid to stop doing those useless exercises instead? Look at how small her tummy is. I bet hers is going to be a stillborn."

She was already brazenly cursing me like this.

Paul's face darkened. He instinctively wanted to defend me and yell at them, but all of a sudden, Irene clutched at her stomach and screamed that she was in great pain.

Rose immediately got someone to rush her to the hospital. On the way there, Rose even blamed Pierre for not taking good care of Irene while she was pregnant.

Irene was in such great pain that she was completely covered in cold sweat. However, she wouldn't stop glaring intently at my wrist, where the gleaming gold bangle lay.

A hint of confusion appeared in her eyes.

"Aren't you feeling any discomfort at all, Ingrid?"

Paul had an old classmate named Albus Copperfield who dabbled a little in witchcraft and dark magic on the side, so he was the best person to contact for these kinds of "mystical" issues.Albus came to our house that very night. When he glanced at my baby, he heaved a sigh of relief and said, "It's a good thing that you discovered the issue with that gold bangle and removed it. Otherwise, it wouldn't only be your baby's body that would be transferred. Your sister would have siphoned all of your luck away, too!"Also, she could always turn the gold bangle into something else to give to your son. But I have a tiny locket here, and you can put it around his neck to protect him from any harm."I then told Albus about Mom coming to me in my dreams. Albus scoffed and huffed at once."I must say, your mom is such a terrible person!"He then told me that she was also shortening my lifespan by appearing in my dreams like this. From the very beginning, she had favored Irene alone, paving t

He was the only person who held my hand and told me that he would spend the rest of his life being good to me.At first, when he learned that Irene was trying to seduce Pierre, he thought of moving out of his home with me, but I was the one who advised him to stay. "What's wrong with the gold bangle?" I asked, feigning confusion as I frowned at Irene. "Didn't you say that Mom was the one who gave it to me to ensure that my baby grew up healthy and strong?"When Irene realized that her words aroused suspicion, she shut up at once. However, Rose was afraid that she would disturb or trigger me and hurriedly kicked her out without saying another word. That was how they had treated me in my past life, too. But now, the tides had turned against Irene.…I was discharged and sent back home the next day. Irene also arrived home in an Uber.At first, she didn't want to bring home the abomination that she'd given birth to. Irene watched the video over and over in shock, muttering to herself, "No, that's impossible! Ingrid has been wearing the gold bangle the whole time… Her baby should be the one turning into a monster, not mine!"Rose had already come up to me, asking me where I wanted my villa to be. She also told me that she was going to hire the best nanny for me while I recovered at home.Irene, who was used to Rose spoiling her instead, couldn't bear with this treatment. She flew into a temper and screamed, "No! Mom! That's supposed to be my villa! I gave birth to a baby boy too!"However, Rose pretended not to hear her and cheerfully continued discussing the other arrangements with me."I'm sorry for blaming you just now, Ingrid. You and Paul have been taking extremely good care of the baby since the start. Of course it's impossible that you would have given birth to a monster!"Then, Rose turned around and began chiding Pierre. "And you! How dare you marry such a crazy woman! You should hurr

I felt a sense of helplessness well up inside me.How could things still turn out like this?Irene's smug voice continued ringing in my ears. "The villa is mine now! It's all mine! You only have yourself to blame for being so dumb, Ingrid! I can't believe you actually thought that Mom would be so nice to you, even if she appeared to you in your dreams!"When Rose heard that she had two healthy baby grandsons, she rushed into the room in great joy. However, the moment she caught sight of the barking baby on the floor, she turned pale with shock."What the hell is this abomination?"Irene pointed her chin toward me with a smug scoff. "That's the baby that Ingrid gave birth to. It's a human-dog hybrid!"Rose kept stumbling backward in shock. "Ingrid Owens! What the hell did you do? What did you do to my grandson? How could he turn into this monster?"Paul! If you don't divorce her immediately, I'm kicking you out of the family!"Paul was equally as shocked, but he still instinctiv

Irene was the one being rushed to the hospital now, yet she was still concerned about my well-being.The accompanying nurses looked at me with envy. "You have such a good relationship with your sister. You both even married into the same family and got pregnant at the same time!"Look, your younger sister is in great pain, but she's still so worried about you!"I smiled sweetly at the nurses in response. However, I couldn't help scoffing internally.Irene wasn't the least bit concerned about me. She just thought something had gone wrong with her body, and she was suspicious that her collusion with Mom had somehow run into trouble."Look, Rene, you're the one who needs more care now. My baby's fine. I don't really feel him doing anything in my belly."Upon hearing my words, the expression on Irene's face turned somewhat comical. One moment, she was ecstatic; the next, she was wincing in agony. Finally, we arrived at the hospital, and the doctor said that her baby was very healthy
