"Ingy, I've hidden a gold bangle for you in your bedside table. It's made of solid gold and weighs 3.22 troy ounces!

"Remember to take it out tomorrow and put it on. It will help you accumulate wealth and also bless your baby with good health."

I felt my back getting drenched in cold sweat when I heard Mom's familiar voice in my ear. It was then that I realized that I had been reborn.

Mom's kind face looked eerie and terrifying to me. After all, she had never looked at me with such kindness before.

In my past life, when I retrieved the gold bangle from the bedside table, my first instinct had been to give it to my younger sister, Irene Owens. However, she said Mom favored me over her and insisted that I should be the one to wear it. She forced the bangle over my knuckles and onto my wrist, then told me to take good care of it.

I believed her. But I missed the look of disdain in her eyes when she looked at the bangle on my wrist.

Mom had been terminally ill before she passed away. During that time, I was the only one who stayed by her side and took care of her on her deathbed.

Before passing, Mom had grabbed my arm tightly with her bony hands and said, "I was blind my whole life, spoiling Irene rotten when the only person willing to stay with me in my sickness is you. She was the first one to leave as soon as she heard about my condition!

"You're the only daughter for me, Ingrid Owens."

I thought that the gold bangle was Mom's way of rewarding me for my kindness and filial piety toward her, so I trusted her with all my heart. However, I never realized it had all been part of a conspiracy orchestrated by Mom and Irene.

The gold bangle was only the tip of the iceberg that would later plunge me into a hopeless abyss.

Irene and I were married. I was married to Paul Connor, and she was married to Paul's younger brother, Pierre Connor.

Ever since we were children, Irene had always liked taking away whatever was mine; she had even tried seducing Paul many times after learning that I was dating him. Unfortunately for her, Paul loved me very much and completely ignored her each time.

Ultimately, she and Pierre were caught sleeping together in my and Paul's bed, so Irene was also forced to marry into the Connor family, alongside me. Because of that, Paul and Pierre's mother, Rose Trevino, didn't have a good impression of Irene.

Three months later, I was pregnant. I'd only just told Rose about my pregnancy when Irene also said that she'd been showing symptoms of morning sickness.

So, Rose said, "I'll buy a five-million-dollar villa for whichever of you gives me a healthy grandson first!"

Irene immediately thumped herself on the chest and promised Rose that she was very sure that she was pregnant with a healthy baby boy. However, her subsequent behavior was completely detrimental to the baby's development in her belly.

She didn't just continue sleeping with Pierre every night—often leaving the nanny, Lucy Doyle, blushing in embarrassment when she went in to make the bed each morning.

She also fell in with a crowd of troublemakers and frequently went out drinking, smoking, and even taking part in illegal street races.

She basically didn't care about the baby at all.

As for me, I didn't harbor any special expectations for my baby. I genuinely didn't care if I gave birth to a boy or a girl, as long as they were born healthy.

Paul deliberately told Lucy to pay more attention to my pregnancy diet, making sure I got enough nutrients and vitamins while keeping an eye on my salt and sugar intake to minimize any risks. He also took me on walks and often encouraged me to exercise, as he believed that it would help with the natural birth.

During one of our prenatal checkups, the doctor said that my baby was healthy, in the correct gestational position, and that all the vital signs and developmental indicators looked good. On the other hand, Irene's baby looked just like a lump of flesh, and the doctor suggested that she abort it.

"You're just seeing things! My baby is perfectly fine and healthy!" she retorted at once. I even advised her to listen to the doctor, since she and Pierre could always try for another baby. They were still very young, after all.

Yet, Irene just gave me a once-over and chuckled before saying, "I think you should worry about your own baby first, Ingrid. My baby is perfectly fine and definitely healthier than yours!"

I didn't understand what she meant at that time. But now, I understood everything.

As it turned out, Mom never truly loved me from the very beginning.

She knew that Irene was rude to Rose and that the latter disliked her. So, Mom decided to use my baby as a stepping stone for Irene to gain Rose's favor instead. She made me give birth to a deformed baby so that Irene would be the one giving birth to a healthy grandson for Rose.

And, it seemed that the gold bangle was the "medium" used for this transfer!

I wasn't going to make the same dumb mistake again in this life. I would never let them absorb the nutrients and life essence from my baby!

At that thought, I looked up at Mom's face and smiled sweetly at her.

"Thank you, Mom. I promise that I will take great care of the gold bangle!"

I made a silent vow in my heart, though. I would most definitely find a more suitable home for the cursed bangle instead!

Paul had an old classmate named Albus Copperfield who dabbled a little in witchcraft and dark magic on the side, so he was the best person to contact for these kinds of "mystical" issues.Albus came to our house that very night. When he glanced at my baby, he heaved a sigh of relief and said, "It's a good thing that you discovered the issue with that gold bangle and removed it. Otherwise, it wouldn't only be your baby's body that would be transferred. Your sister would have siphoned all of your luck away, too!"Also, she could always turn the gold bangle into something else to give to your son. But I have a tiny locket here, and you can put it around his neck to protect him from any harm."I then told Albus about Mom coming to me in my dreams. Albus scoffed and huffed at once."I must say, your mom is such a terrible person!"He then told me that she was also shortening my lifespan by appearing in my dreams like this. From the very beginning, she had favored Irene alone, paving t

Paul loves me very much. He also felt sorry and heartbroken when he learned about what I went through as a child.Ever since Dad passed away, Mom had always hated me for resembling him. But every time Irene did something wrong, I would always be the one who got yelled at and punished by being locked up in the dark attic by myself.Mom didn't even want to let me go to college at first. I was the one who worked multiple odd jobs for months during the summer and winter breaks and saved enough to pay for it myself.I never had any pocket money, and any scholarship money I received had to be halved and shared with Irene.Anyone who heard about my past would automatically want to run from me, but Paul was different. He was the only person who held my hand and told me that he would spend the rest of his life being good to me.At first, when he learned that Irene was trying to seduce Pierre, he thought of moving out of his home with me, but I was the one who advised him to stay. I didn't

"What's wrong with the gold bangle?" I asked, feigning confusion as I frowned at Irene. "Didn't you say that Mom was the one who gave it to me to ensure that my baby grew up healthy and strong?"When Irene realized that her words aroused suspicion, she shut up at once. However, Rose was afraid that she would disturb or trigger me and hurriedly kicked her out without saying another word. That was how they had treated me in my past life, too. But now, the tides had turned against Irene.…I was discharged and sent back home the next day. Irene also arrived home in an Uber.At first, she didn't want to bring home the abomination that she'd given birth to. However, the nurse bundled it up and stuffed it into the Uber alongside her.The Uber driver was also afraid that Irene would leave her howling and barking baby inside his car. Irene watched the video over and over in shock, muttering to herself, "No, that's impossible! Ingrid has been wearing the gold bangle the whole time… Her baby should be the one turning into a monster, not mine!"Rose had already come up to me, asking me where I wanted my villa to be. She also told me that she was going to hire the best nanny for me while I recovered at home.Irene, who was used to Rose spoiling her instead, couldn't bear with this treatment. She flew into a temper and screamed, "No! Mom! That's supposed to be my villa! I gave birth to a baby boy too!"However, Rose pretended not to hear her and cheerfully continued discussing the other arrangements with me."I'm sorry for blaming you just now, Ingrid. You and Paul have been taking extremely good care of the baby since the start. Of course it's impossible that you would have given birth to a monster!"Then, Rose turned around and began chiding Pierre. "And you! How dare you marry such a crazy woman! You should hurr

I felt a sense of helplessness well up inside me.How could things still turn out like this?Irene's smug voice continued ringing in my ears. "The villa is mine now! It's all mine! You only have yourself to blame for being so dumb, Ingrid! I can't believe you actually thought that Mom would be so nice to you, even if she appeared to you in your dreams!"When Rose heard that she had two healthy baby grandsons, she rushed into the room in great joy. However, the moment she caught sight of the barking baby on the floor, she turned pale with shock."What the hell is this abomination?"Irene pointed her chin toward me with a smug scoff. "That's the baby that Ingrid gave birth to. It's a human-dog hybrid!"Rose kept stumbling backward in shock. "Ingrid Owens! What the hell did you do? What did you do to my grandson? How could he turn into this monster?"Paul! If you don't divorce her immediately, I'm kicking you out of the family!"Paul was equally as shocked, but he still instinctiv

Irene was the one being rushed to the hospital now, yet she was still concerned about my well-being.The accompanying nurses looked at me with envy. "You have such a good relationship with your sister. You both even married into the same family and got pregnant at the same time!"Look, your younger sister is in great pain, but she's still so worried about you!"I smiled sweetly at the nurses in response. However, I couldn't help scoffing internally.Irene wasn't the least bit concerned about me. She just thought something had gone wrong with her body, and she was suspicious that her collusion with Mom had somehow run into trouble."Look, Rene, you're the one who needs more care now. My baby's fine. I don't really feel him doing anything in my belly."Upon hearing my words, the expression on Irene's face turned somewhat comical. One moment, she was ecstatic; the next, she was wincing in agony. Finally, we arrived at the hospital, and the doctor said that her baby was very healthy
