Chapter 14

Jessica Hemsworth

Monday morning, Paragon fashion house, 10am.

I rubbed my sweaty palms together, heart pounding against my throat while sitting along the long bench along the walkway, waiting for my turn for the interview.

My heart skipped when the door opened and the last lady who went inside earlier, stepped outside, followed by a voice, calling my name from inside.

“You got this, Jessica. You can do it.” I whispered, and took a breath as I proceeded into the office. Thankfully, there were just two interviewees, easing the tension in the atmosphere and in my heart.

“Please sit.” One of them, a young lady in her thirties, gestured to a chair, a soft smile on her face.

“Thank you.”

“So, what's your name?...”

“Thank you for your time, Ms. Hemsworth. We will get back to you after analyzing your resume again.” The same woman said to me after the interview was concluded, and I nodded.

“Thank you.”

A heavy weight lifted off my chest the moment I stepped out of the offic

Chapter 16Jessica Hemsworth My heart pounded hard in my chest as I stood in front of my mirror, staring at my reflection. I woke up as early as I could, to prepare for work. It was my first day today, and leaving a bad first impression by being late was something I didn't want.“You got this, Jess.” I cheered myself on, took one last look at my reflection before leaving the room. However, my smile faded at the sight of Viktor the moment I stepped out of the room. Not this morning, please.Viktor blocked my way as I tried to ignore and walk past him. I guess I have to deal with his nagging.“Where are you going?” One brow raised, eyes flickering with curiosity.“Not your business.” I brushed shoulders with him as I walked past him, but he held my hand and pulled me back.“I asked where you are going, Jessica!” He gritted out. “I deserve to know.”“Well, I didn't ask where you were going last night, did I?” A smile curled around my lips, eyes on him, voice calm, but impatient deep ins

Chapter 15Jessica Hemsworth ‘You are not even my real mom'My fingers subconsciously tightened around the pencil, pressing it hard against my drawing book, as those words replayed in my head. After I left Jeremy's school earlier, I took a cab to the park to clear my head.“Don't let her ruin your mood, Jess. There are more important things to think about.” I whispered to myself. My lips curled in a smile at the beautiful design I recently started working on. It was a drawing of a beautiful fitted gown. I chuckled. “I still got my charms.”“I had no idea you were an artist.” I heard a familiar voice, and the next second, Mr. Hall stood in front of me, hands inside pockets, eyes on my book.“My goodness!” I rose to my feet, my heart still racing. “Mr. Hall… Uhm… I… it's good to see you.” I stuttered, my breath galloping, unsure of what to say.“It's good to see you too, Ms. Hemsworth.” A small smile played on his lips, and disappeared almost immediately.“I didn't expect to run into

Viktor Holt My jaw tightened. Something was wrong. Jessica had changed, and it was obvious. The woman I married would never have spoken to me the way she did today, nor would she have dared slap my mother. I didn’t know what had caused this shift, but I knew one thing—this was not the Jessica I had known. I grabbed my phone, desperate for something to occupy my mind, to push away the gnawing frustration. When I unlocked the screen, I saw Anna’s smiling face. For a moment, I froze. She had been gone for years, yet it still felt like she was right there with me. Her touch, her smile... everything. A familiar ache spread through me, but I shook it off. It wasn’t the time to dwell on the past. I had more pressing matters to attend to. Susanne’s voice snapped me back to reality. She hobbled in, leaning on crutches, a cast on her foot. When I found her earlier, she was lying on the cold floor, hurt. She had slipped while cleaning. “Are you okay?” I asked, my tone neutral. “I’m fine, Vi

Chapter 12 Jessica Hemsworth The food had already been delivered by the time we got back, so I assumed it was the text he got earlier. Eloise was dishing out the food. “Let's eat.” Viktor muttered under his breath, picking up the spoon. We began eating. The tension in the atmosphere thickened, the awkward silence complimenting it. “By the way, Jessica…” Eloise's voice cut through the silence as she paused eating. “You didn't come over yesterday to make mom's herb. Why?” A silent scoff tore through my throat, my fingers tightening around the spoon. Some years ago when Viktor's mom fell ill, I used my father's secret medicinal recipe to help her heal. Back then, making the herb every three days became a routine for me. But what did I get in return? Even while I did everything for her, she never failed to rub it in my face that she didn't like me. I lifted my gaze to Eloise, putting on a soft smile. “That is why you should've learned how to make it, Eloise.” S

Chapter 11 Jessica Hemsworth "She's too impulsive. She is nothing like Anna. If it weren't for Jeremy, I would've asked you to throw her out already." I paused abruptly, and my grip around the spoon I was stirring the soup with, tightened as my mother-in-law's faint voice echoed in ears. She continued. "If it weren't for Jeremy, I would've asked you to throw her out already. The sight of her disgusts me." My heart tightened in my chest, and I gritted my teeth. Comparing me to Anna every damn time, doesn't she ever get tired? ‘You are nothing but a desperate bitch that couldn't wait to marry my son. You should be grateful he hasn't divorced you yet’ ‘Anna is better than you in every way’ 'You wouldn't be here if it weren't for Anna's death'. My jaw clenched tightly as every word said to me, every maltreatment clawed back into my mind. I had been nothing but a good wife to Viktor and his family. I did everything for his mom. When she was sick and was on the verg
