Chapter 3
Jessica Hemsworth A painful laugh tore through my throat, tears blurring my vision as I stared down at the credit alert displayed on my phone screen. "Five hundred thousand?" I chuckled again, tears dropping from my eyes as my fingers tightened around my phone. My heart twisted in my chest, my breath heavy and shallow. Is she mocking me? After sacrificing my career for her grandchild and in-law, this mockery is what I get in return? I was a fast rising designer with big dreams of owning my own fashion house one day, but she and her family stole my dream from me. If she didn't steal away eight years of my life, perhaps I would've made that dream come true. And five hundred thousand dollars? In exchange for everything she stole away from me? My career, my life, my youth? "You'll be fine, Jessica. You are strong. Don't let her break you." I whispered to myself, but the truth is, she already broke me. Every piece of me. I hauled down the next cab and the ride to Viktor's apartment began. Thankfully, Viktor wasn't in the house by the time I got back home, so I headed straight to our room and packed all my belongings. My heart twisted in my chest as I stood in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection. It felt I was another person. I didn't expect otherwise after being the shadow of someone else for years. I walked over to my suitcase and held the handle, my fingers tightened around it. And for the last time, I looked around the room that I once cherished. The room that held memories of eight years of my life, before hauling my suitcase out of the room, holding the divorce papers in my other hand. Leaving quietly was the only thing I wanted, but I guess that won't happen, because I heard Viktor's voice as I approached the living room. Not just his voice alone but Jeremy's too. “You don't have to worry, sweetheart. I will make you something to eat. Something delicious.” I heard a familiar feminine voice. Susanne Blake. Viktor's best friend. “You are the best, aunty Susan.” Followed by Jeremy's voice. My eyes flashed with surprise when I saw Susan, lying on the couch with her head on Jeremy's laps, and Viktor… he was peeling an orange. He paused when he noticed my presence, but continued as if I wasn't even there. I scoffed silently. What a jerk. I walked over to the center table without saying a word to him, and dropped the file, heading toward the door afterwards. “And where the hell do you think you are going?” His voice made me halt abruptly on my track, my fingers clutching the suitcase tightly as I clenched my jaws tightly. “What is this, huh?” Viktor was already on his feet, holding the brown file up by the time I turned around to face him. “Check it yourself.” I replied to him, my voice dripping with disdain. I wanted nothing at that moment more than to walk out of his house forever. Besides, the marriage binding us together has been annulled. Viktor stared at me for a few seconds before he tore the file open, taking out the paper. However, his eyes flashed with shock the moment he saw the divorce papers. As if he had not expected this from the get-go. Oh, he wasn't. He never knew about the deal between my aunt and I. I still remembered how he insulted me almost every single day that I was glad his wife died so I could marry him. Victor scoffs, running his fingers through his hair. "You want a divorce?" "Yes." I replied flatly. He threw the papers back on the table and walked over to me. "Are you doing this to get my attention, hmm?" He lifted his hand to my face, his eyes piercing into mine with suppressed anger blazing in them. I slapped his hand off, but what he did next made my eyes shot open. Viktor grabbed my neck and slammed me hard against the wall. "Isn't this what you've always wanted? That I marry you? Bitch, you seduced me! You couldn't even wait three months after Anna's death before scheming to marry me." His words struck my heart, stomping on the piece of my broken heart. Will he ever know the truth? That I never wanted this marriage? That this whole thing was planned and forced on me by my aunt? "Why do you want to leave now? And what makes you think that I will let you go leave freely just like that after everything you did?" His hand tightened around my neck, choking me. He never went easy even as I tapped his hand, trying to breath. "In your dreams, Jessica. You belong to me, Jessica. You are mine to torture for the rest of my life! If I am not happy, then you will never be!" He finally let go of me, pushing me to the floor. My eyes stung as tears build up in them. I looked up at Jeremy. He was glaring daggers at me. Like he wanted to kill me. "Get your things back inside, Jessica. I won't repeat myself." And with that, Viktor turned his back on me and started walking away. "I’m getting that divorce, one way or another." He paused, turning back to me, a smirk curled around his lips as he said, "I'll see you try, sweetheart."Chapter 76Jessica Hemsworth Of course, I knew getting Viktor to sign the divorce agreement wasn't going to be smooth.I stepped out of Viktor's house, my fingers clenched around the papers, my jaw tightened.“That bastard!” I gritted silently, looking back over my shoulder, letting out a sigh.My phone rang as I stood along the curb.Alicia.“Hey, bestie!” Her cheerful voice echoed from the other end. “I'm heading to a seafood restaurant. Wanna join me?”My face brightened. Spicy seafood… the perfect thing I needed at this moment.“Sure. Send me the address.”I hauled a cab and jumped in as the call ended. Then five seconds later, Alicia's text came in, and I told the driver the address.I rested on the headrest with my eyes closed, breathing steady, and mine blank. We reached the restaurant, and as I walked in, I spotted Alicia. She was devouring crabs like she'd been starving for days.“Hey, babes. You are here.” She smiled. “My God! Their seafood here is so delicious.”I let out
Chapter 75Jessica Hemsworth “We are here, Ms.” My breath caught in my throat, my fingers tightened around my handbag as the cab driver's voice slammed me back to reality.“Thank you.” A smile stretched around my lips as I paid him, then alighted from the car.My eyes scanned around the familiar neighborhood, and with a deep breath, I stepped inside the compound, and as I approached, Jeremy stepped out.His face burned with disdain, a deep frown creeping up his face.He stood firmly, blocking my way. “What are you doing here?”I scoffed silently. “Are you here to beg so dad would take you back?” He crossed his arms in front of him, a smirk touching his lips. “You are so pathetic, Jessica. I thought you weren't coming back.”I smiled softly, crouching down in front of him, eyes locked on him. “Aww poor boy… I've only been gone for barely three days and you look malnourished already… have you been feeding well without me here?”Colour drained from his face as he muttered. “Huh?”“You
Chapter 74Jessica Hemsworth I froze, my eyes widened, heart racing, every thump heavier than the last as our lips locked.I curled my fingers into my palms beside me, squeezing my eyes shut.I lifted my hands to push him, but my body betrayed me as they wrapped around his neck instead, deepening the kiss.My body burned with desire. Maybe because he was so good at kissing that I couldn't help but want more… or because I haven't done this for some time now… Or maybe I had never been kissed this good my entire life.My body instinctively pressed hard against his, arms tightening on his neck, our tongues fighting for dominance.‘Stop this, Jess!’ A voice screamed in my head, but still, my body didn't listen… My fingers sinking into his soft silky hair, pulling it gently. This was unbelievable… My boss kissing me… Maybe when I opened my eyes, I'd realised this was nothing but a dream, or my imagination. Then a soft faint knock came on the door, and he cursed silently into my lips befo
Chapter 73Susanne A smile spread across my face the moment I stepped into Viktor's room. He hadn't been gone for long, so the sweet scent of his familiar cologne still lingered in the room.My eyes swept over the room, lingering on his portrait hanging on the wall, and I couldn't deny the excitement I felt within me.I walked to his bed, throwing myself on it, hugging his duvet to myself. I could still feel his warmth from it.‘Why can't he learn to love me? Why can't he give us a chance when I've desperately been in love with him?’It doesn't matter how long it'll take me, but I'll make him mine one day.Even though I had been here several times over the years, Viktor had never allowed me into his room no matter how hard I tried.I rolled out of the bed as I noticed the closet standing next to Viktor's. My brows knitted together as curiosity sparked through me.“Whose closet is that?” I muttered, counting my steps toward it, my chest tightening at the thought of it belonging to Jes
Chapter 72Jessica Hemsworth “Wow! So, you've been designing since you were a kid?” Mr. Hall senior looked at me, his face brightened with a smile, impressed by my story.I nodded.“That's beautiful…” then he turned to Oliver. “You two have something in common.”Ollie rolled his eyes, reaching for the napkin to clean his mouth. “You are not about to brag about me again, are you?”He chuckled, turning to me. “You see, Oliver has been a smart kid since he was a toddler… he has always loved fashion.”I raised a brow, adjusting on the chair. “Really?”“Yes. He had many awards back in school. I will show you later. I have them stacked up in his old room.”I glanced at Oliver. He was just rolling his eyes, but I could tell he was proud of himself… who wouldn't be?“You must've really been proud of him.”“Of course… I've always been proud of him. He is my golden boy.” He laughed. We chatted through the meal, and once we were done, I stood to clear the table.“No, Jessica. Don't bother about
Chapter 71Jessica Hemsworth “It's just dinner with his grandpa. Do I have to wear this?” I muttered as I stood before my mirror, staring at my gorgeous self adorned in a purple fitted off-shoulder gown.Heat crept up my chest as I carefully tucked my hair away, showing my bare shoulders and a part of my chest.“This is too revealing. It might make him uncomfortable.” I muttered, arranging my hair to cover my chest, as if he wasn't the one who bought the dress for me.My cheeks heat up at the thought of that. I was a bit uncomfortable when he got me the dress just for this dinner. I mean, I have tons of dresses in my closet that I could've worn. It's beautiful though. With my heart pounding hard in my chest, my fingers tightened on my purple purse, and my steps faltering in the purple high heels, I walked down the walkway. Mr. Hall's grandpa had invited him for dinner at his place, and he asked that I go with him to avoid the man's drama. In his words, the old man would force him
