Jessie's POV

The attorney led the way to the bathroom.

Ethan’s apartment screamed luxury. It was a beauty to behold. Every corner spoke of expensive taste and careful design, the kind of place that made you want to linger, to run your fingers over the surfaces and imagine what it would be like to live in such refined comfort.

But I wasn’t there to admire the decor.

When I entered the bathroom, the blood was still there, uncleaned. Dark stains spoiled the clean white marble; it was a violent contrast that made my stomach clench. The mere sight of the blood made my body react, as though I had been present at the scene when the murder was committed. My skin prickled with awareness, and my wolf started stirring restlessly beneath my skin.

This was it. This was the evidence I needed.

But there was a problem.

I needed the blood, but there was no way I could take it while the lawyer looked at me. Yes, he was Ethan's lawyer, but there was no way I could let him know about my ability, my power

Jessie's POV It was Maria. But she looked different than I had ever seen her; she was colder, more predatory. Her eyes were devoid of any humanity; they were replaced by something dark and calculating. This wasn't the grieving stepmother playing the victim. This was the true Maria, stripped of all pretense."Because you know too much," Maria said calmly, her voice devoid of emotion. "And because Ethan trusts you. With you gone, he will have no one to turn to. No one to keep him grounded. He will make mistakes, show the world what we have been saying all along, that he is unstable, dangerous, and unfit to lead.""This is insane," Victoria gasped, still backing away, her back hitting the wall. There was nowhere left to run. "You can't, Ethan will know it was you. He is not stupid. He will figure it out.""Will he?" Maria smiled, and it was the most chilling thing I had ever seen. "A grieving man, already unstable, who finds his most trusted ally murdered in his own bathroom? Who will h

Jessie's POV After she was gone, sleep was far from my eyes. My mind was too active, too wired with anticipation and dread for what I was about to do.I retrieved the blood-soaked cloth from its hiding place, handling it carefully. The fabric felt heavier than it should, as if the weight of the memories it contained was a physical thing. Now it was time to do what needed to be done. The consequences didn't matter to me anymore. Ethan's freedom, the truth about Victoria's murder, justice for all the wrongs that had been committed, these things were worth any price.Even if that price was my own safety.Even if that price was my sanity.I pushed the bookshelf door open and stepped into the hidden library. The sourceless light welcomed me, soft and steady, illuminating the thousands of books that lined the walls. I moved to the desk where my mother's books were arranged and pulled out the book of blood magic that contained the spell I needed. My hands trembled as I laid the cloth on t

Jessie's POVAs I headed back to my room, the thought of Lisa came to my mind. I had been so busy with activities that I almost forgot about my personal girl. She had proven herself all around to be my strongest ally. The weight of everything I was carrying, Ethan's imprisonment, the magical discoveries, the deadly conspiracies swirling around me, had consumed my attention so completely that I had neglected the one person who had stood by me through everything.I sent one of the guards to fetch her.I entered my room and brought out the blood-soaked cloth; my hands were trembling slightly as I held it. The fabric was still damp, still heavy with Victoria’s essence. I hid it carefully in the back of my wardrobe drawer, beneath layers of other clothes, where no casual observer would think to look.My mind wandered to James and all the things he had said to me during our drive back. A troubling thought struck me: what if James was the mysterious Stephanie Morgan? What if he had been disg

Jessie's POV "James," I said carefully, "did my mother ever say anything about Gaty? About being careful around her?"His jaw tightened. "She did, actually. About a week before she died. She pulled me aside and told me to keep an eye on Gaty. She said something felt wrong, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what. I thought maybe they had just had a falling out, the way mother and daughter sometimes do. But then your mother died, and I wondered...""You wondered if Gaty had something to do with it.""I had no proof," James said quickly. "Just a feeling. A suspicion I couldn't shake. But Princess, if Gaty did poison your mother... if she's capable of that kind of betrayal...""I know," I said, my voice was hard. "Believe me, I know exactly what Gaty is capable of."We drove in silence for a while, both lost in our own thoughts. The blood in my pocket seemed to pulse with its own dark energy, calling to me, promising answers if I was brave enough to seek them."When we get back,"

Jessie's POV Attorney Richard was already there, standing beside a black car. He was older than I had expected, maybe in his fifties. He wore an expensive suit that spoke of success and confidence. He approached as I got out of the car. "Princess Jessie?""Yes. Thank you for coming on such short notice."He shook my hand firmly. "Ethan has said a lot about you. It's a pleasure to finally meet you, though as I said, I wish it were under better circumstances." His eyes studied me carefully. "You mentioned that you want to look into some... unconventional avenues of investigation?""Something like that," I said carefully. We approached the building together, with James and the escorting officer following behind. The two officers stationed at the entrance immediately moved to block our path."Sir, ma'am, this is a secured crime scene. No unauthorized personnel."Attorney Richard pulled out his credentials. "I'm Richard Morrison, attorney for Alpha Ethan. This is part of our investigatio
