Chapter 8 Police

      After pushing Raj from the cliff, she turned and ran from the spot. Sneakily she entered the mansion and went to her room.

              Sujata pov

     I don't know whether he survived or died. What if he somehow reaches back and returns. He will trap me and get me imprisoned. I should have stayed and made sure that he dies. What should I do? Should I run or wait?

     There was a knock on my door. I was at first startled but then composing myself, I opened the door to find ma standing there. She came inside and asked me.

"Were you sleeping? Did I wake you up?" Ranjini entered the room and averted her gaze in all the direction 

" No ma I was awake I didn't know you were back." Sujata followed her mother in law back into the room.

"Raj isn't back." Rajini sat at the edge of the bed.

"No ma, he isn't back." Sujata composed herself. She sat next to her. 

"He likes to see the sunset so I think he will be late. Did you have your lunch or skipped it since you were alone? "For a few seconds, she had a faraway look. She then looked back at her.

"Yes, I had my lunch." Sujata kept her head on her shoulder 

"Ok come have tea with me "

     They move down to have their evening tea.

      Unexpectedly the butler came in. "Mam some policemen have come and they are asking for you"

     Rajini was shocked to hear that and ran towards the door. Sujata smirked knowingly.

"Good evening mam, we found this wallet of Mr Raj Kapoor at the cliff. Some tourists had called us to inform us that they had seen a man falling from the cliff. I hope it is not Mr Kapoor" The inspector informed Rajini.

   On hearing this Rajni's face lost all colour. She was pale and was about to fall when suddenly Simmi, who was entering the mansion, caught her.

   Fabricating herself Sujata ran

towards them.

" What happened to Ma, Simmi, why did the police come?" Sujata helped Simmi in bringing Rajini inside the mansion.

"Don't no, bhabhi. I was just entering when I saw ma falling so I brought her in." 

   Sujata brought some water and sprinkled it on Rajini's face. She gained consciousness and started crying. Everyone got worried about seeing her. Between her sobs, she explained everything to everyone.

   Hardly a few days back the place was filled with happiness excitement and cheerfulness and had positive vibes, has now worn a desolate and deserted look, negative vibes were engulfing the mansion

   Except for Sujata, everyone was sad and silently praying for Raj's safety. Sujata was feeling happy but wore a mask on her face.

   After sobbing for some time Rajini got up and went near Sujata and gave her a reassuring gaze and caressed her. Then she picked up the phone and made a call.

"Hello, Sanjay Rajini here."Her voice was hoarse from crying for so long.

"Namaste (a form of greeting) aunty, how are you? Is something wrong? " His forehead creased as he could feel something was wrong.

"Yes Sanjay is Raj with you, he hasn't returned after he had gone to meet you all". In between sobs, she started explaining everything to him.

Sanjay listened calmly and then spoke, "aunty, when we all were leaving he was indeed near the cliff. He had told us that he wanted to spend some time near the cliff and we could go if we wanted, so we all left." Sanjay tried to sound calm as he didn't want to worry, already worried Rajini.

  Learning this Rajini started sobbing. Sanjay got worried, he tried to console Rajini and told her that he will ask others. Although he tried to sound confident his voice sounded hollow. He started feeling worried about Raj.

   Sujata got up and went to the kitchen. She brought a tray full of food and sat beside Rajini.

"Ma, Simmi, it's getting late and you both must be hungry. Please have some food. We will receive some good news he will come please eat he will feel bad on seeing like this please ma". Sujata pleaded with them to eat.

   When Sujata pleaded for some time, Rajini and Simmi ate a little bit even Sujata ate a little bit. She forced them to take a rest for a while as she knew tomorrow and every day therein would be hard for them. On entering her room she stood before Raj's portrait smirking at it.

"You have got what you deserved now your mother and sister will pay for your sins. I'm not a murderer and I don't want to do these things but you never left me with a choice."

    She wanted to take revenge on him for whatever he did to her. Although she felt a little bad for Rajini and Simmi she suppressed that feeling. The incidents in her life have killed all the delicate and beautiful feelings in her. Her heart has turned to stone.
