Chapter 68: Underhanded Tricks

OLLIE

"Hello, my darling boy," Grandma Silvia's warm voice came through the phone making me smile.

"How are you doing? Your daddy told me that you enjoyed your sleepover with Riley."

"Yeah! I did, he's really nice. We played with my trucks and built a fort and watched movies and everything."

"That sounds wonderful, sweetheart. Did you have fun?"

"Uh-huh. I really liked having Riley here. But his mama came and took him home too soon, and now I want him to come back."

I heard Grandma make a soft sound, like she was thinking about something, important. She hummed for a moment before she asked again.

"You really like this Riley, don't you? You like having him around, someone to be with and he's your age mate isn't he?"

"Yes he is, and I really do like having him around all the time. He's my best friend."

"Would you like to have Riley as a brother, Ollie? Someone who could live with you all the time?"

My heart jumped with excitement at the idea. "Yes! Tha

Chapter 135: The Race Against The UnknownTHORNE Today was one of the surreal days in my life. Standing in front of a witch and not ripping her to shreds because she claimed to be the only obstacle standing between Riley and certain death. And in as much as I hated to admit it, even to myself. I needed her help because I don't think the hospital would be able to treat this even if I managed to get him to one on time.Xenois was going to have my head for working with a witch but as long as it meant Riley was safe. I was willing to risk my morality. The woman in front of me didn't seem sinister. Aside from the general scent of what witches smelled like, there was no evil aura or dark energy coming from her.And truly she seemed like she didn't want to fight me because if she wanted to, she would have stopped my heart just by mere breathing. That's how terrifying they were.I let go of Carol as she moved back to the boy, checking up on him as I joined her.I crouched beside Carol as she

Chapter 134: The RitualLYNI met his eyes steadily, not flinching away from his anger as I knew I had to take a stand. "Then prove me wrong," I said, my voice strained but clear, this was something that I wasn't going to budge on, irrespective of my personal feelings on the matter. "Empty this hallway and this room of doctors so I can save Ollie's life. Show me that you're willing to risk everything for the right reasons, not just because you're trying to prove something to yourself or to Lumina."For a moment, I thought he might actually crush my windpipe, his hand got a little bit tighter that I had the fear for a moment. The rational part of my mind catalogued how easy it would be for him to kill me right now, how no one would question an Alpha defending his territory against a witch. But I also knew Zade better than that. Underneath all his anger and confusion, he was a good man who wouldn't let a child die if there was something he could do to prevent it. Not even when it mea

Chapter 133: Choose One LYNWas I crazy? Yes....yes I was but I was determined to see this through no matter what.I watched Zade's face change to anger and confusion as Lynn, came back moments later and handed me the bag of herbs and potions, her movements were quick and efficient despite the tension that was building up between us. The familiar weight of my bag which contained my supplies in my hands felt both comforting and terrifying - I hadn't used my abilities for anything this serious in years, not since I'd promised Zade I would keep that part of myself hidden, to try and fit in the narrative he has created for me.The irony wasn't lost on me that here I was, about to break that promise to try and save the life of a child who I had begun to see as mine and also someone who had never liked Zade, in front of a mate who was already questioning whether he'd made the right choice in accepting me."Everyone out," Zade commanded, his Alpha voice echoing through the hospital room, f

Chapter 132: The In-BetweenOLLIE"Connected how?" I asked, though part of me already understood, what he meant. He was the kid in my dreams. The one with the scary monster always hurting him and I was the one who kept feeling the pain. I remembered the time my hand was burned with no explanation. It was him."The magic in the necklace, I think. I'm not really sure because Mama used a lot of things with me to hurt you," Riley explained. "It tied us together so that we'd share life force. So that you will give me your life energy when I touch you, but it didn't work. It only made us share pain and sickness and everything bad. That's why you've been getting sick every time something happens to me. But they're going to break the connection, which means you're going to get better." He said trying to sound upbeat about it, like it was a good news specifically for me. I noticed he didn't say anything about himself. If he would be better too."What about you?" I asked, because Riley sounded

Chapter 131: Twins Reunion OLLIEI was in so much pain that I couldn't think straight, couldn't understand where I was or what was happening to me. Everything hurt - my head, my chest, my arms and legs - like someone had taken me apart and put me back together wrong. The darkness around me was complete, thick and heavy like being wrapped in a blanket that was too tight, and I couldn't see anything no matter how hard I tried to open my eyes.I couldn't find Mama anywhere, and that scared me more than the pain did. Mama was always there when I needed her, always ready with hugs and kisses and soft words that made everything better. But now I was alone in this strange dark place, and every time I tried to call for her, my voice came out weak and shaky.I tried to move, to sit up or roll over or do something to make the pain stop, but that just made everything hurt worse. A sob escaped from my throat as I shifted my body, trying to find a position that didn't feel like someone was stabbi

Chapter 130: The Truth RevealedTHORNE"Lumina, who was a prime suspect of killing your sister but married anyway? Or Sophia, your ex-lover who conveniently had Riley at a time when you have no memory of sleeping with her?" Xenois looked at me, his eyes widened in shock at the question. The question was brutal, but I needed to hear his answer without the influence of whatever had been clouding his judgment. This seemed like the perfect time to get the answer from him."Lumina," he said without hesitation, despite the confusion about why I would ask him such a question."It's always been Lumina. I don't know why I've been so confused about that lately, but seeing Ollie in danger made everything clear again."That was it. That was the confirmation I needed. I cursed under my breath and started running toward the hospital exit, my mind racing as pieces of the puzzle fell into place. This was a mystery that was slowly unravelling itself after all this years and I still could not believe
