Chapter 3

Ravenna's POV

This couldn't be happening.

While my heart was bleeding, Damien stood, pulled her close, and kissed her in front of everyone.

In front of me.

I couldn’t hear the music anymore. Just the blood rushing in my ears.

They walked off the stage hand in hand, not one glance in my direction. It was like I’d been erased.

Abruptly my legs moved.

I don’t remember deciding to, but my feet were already carrying me toward the restricted area behind the stage.

I felt so many things at once — anger, pain, and worse, denial.

“Ma’am, you can’t go back there,” a security guard blocked me with his arm.

“That’s my boyfriend!” I snapped.

“Please step back.” The guard said, his face twisting in irritation.

I let out a sound that didn’t feel human. “Damien!” I shouted over the noise. “Damien!”

My voice echoed so loudly that I drew attention but I didn't care.

The guard grabbed my arm. “Ma’am, calm down.”

“Don’t touch me!” I jerked away, nearly losing my balance. “Damien!”

He paused mid-laugh, finally drawn to the sound of my voice.

Our eyes met.

For a second, just a second, I saw recognition.

Then resentment.

He leaned toward Lilith, whispered something in her ear, and walked over slowly, like I was an inconvenience.

“What is this?” he demanded when he reached the barrier.

I stared at him. “Tell me that was a prank.”

He frowned. “What?”

“Tell me that proposal was a stupid stunt. Tell me you didn’t just humiliate me in front of everyone.”

People nearby had gone quiet. Phones were pointed in our direction now.

“Ravenna,” he muttered under his breath, “not here.”

“Not here?” My voice cracked. “Where would you prefer? In our house? In our bed where you made love to me?”

He glanced at the security guard. “Let her through.”

The guard hesitated, throwing me a look then stepped aside.

I walked toward him, my legs trembling.

“Look at me,” I pleaded. “Tell me it was a mistake.”

His expression hardened as he pushed me deeper into the hallway away from the paparazzi to a more secluded area. “You’re embarrassing yourself.”

“Embarrassing myself?” I laughed, shaking him off me. “You proposed to another woman.”

“And?”

He asked callously like we were discussing the weather.

“And?” I repeated, disbelief flooding my chest. “I’m your girlfriend.”

He dragged a hand down his face. “You’ve been unbearable for months.”

“Because I was recovering from surgery to save your life!”

“Lower your voice,” he whispered through gritted teeth as someone walked past.

“No, I won’t.”

He leaned closer, his tone sharpening. “Why do you always have to make everything dramatic?”

“Dramatic?” I shot back, my anger spiking. “You gave my ring to that stupid woman!”

In one sharp motion, his palm collided with my jaw.

SLAP.

My head snapped to the side, the world spinning as I tasted blood.

“Don’t you dare insult my wife.” He barked.

I stared at him in disbelief, my cheek burning.

“You slapped me?” I whispered.

“You forced me to react.”

My chest tightened so painfully I could barely breathe. “I stood by you. I almost died for you.”

He let out a humorless laugh. “No one asked you to.”

Those words landed deeper than the slap.

He stepped back and looked me up and down, slow and cruel. “Did you really think this was going to last?”

“What is that supposed to mean?” My hands balled into fists by my side as I forced back tears.

He gestured vaguely toward me. “Look at you.”

My stomach dropped.

“How can a man of my status marry a woman like you?” Every word sent a dagger to my heart. “I have left you. No one wants a fat pig!”

The words came out of Damien’s mouth so casually, so cleanly, like they hadn’t just sliced through me.

Heat flooded my face. I became painfully aware of the fabric stretched across my stomach. Of how visible I suddenly felt.

He knew how insecure I was about my weight yet he didn’t care, using it to crush my heart.

I couldn’t hold them back anymore. Tears burned my eyes, blurring his face. “Where was this attitude when I saved your life?”

His jaw tightened slightly, but he didn’t deny it.

“I’ve been plus size my entire life,” I continued, my chest heaving. “Why didn’t you reject me three years ago? Why now?”

Why now, after I had poured everything into him?

After I had used my father’s business connections to build his brand?

After I had convinced sponsors to give him a chance when no one knew he was a racer?

Why now, when he finally was at the top of his game?

He rubbed his temples, disappointment written all over his features.

“This fat pig used her father’s company to build you up from nothing!”

He let out a short laugh. “Your father’s company?”

“Yes. My father’s…”

“Adoptive father,” he cut in sharply.

I blinked.

That was beside the point.

“That doesn’t matter,” I said, shaking my head. “It’s still my company.”

Damien’s expression hardened.

“Was,” he corrected.

I stared at him. “What?”

“It was your company,” he said slowly, like he was explaining something simple to a child. “Not anymore.”

A chill ran down my spine.

“What are you talking about?”

He stepped closer, lowering his voice. “You’re not the real heir, Ravenna.”

The world seemed to tilt. There was something in his tone that made it known there was something he wasn’t saying.

“You’re no longer the owner,” Damien said. “Because your father willed the company to his real daughter.”

“What are you not telling me Damien?” My voice dropped to a whisper.

“The truth is his real daughter owns the company.”

His words didn't make any sense.

“Who is this daughter you’re talking about?” I demanded.

He didn’t answer.

He didn’t need to.

Footsteps echoed confidently against the marble floor as Lilith stepped into the hallway like she had been waiting for her cue.

She smiled at me cruelly and my blood pressure went through the roof.

“Finally," she began, even though no one asked her to speak. “I have been dying to tell you this.”

I gawked at her astonished, the pieces of the puzzle fitting in now.

“You…” My voice broke. “You’re his…”

“Biological daughter?” She finished smoothly. “Yes.”

Lilith looked me dead in the eye.

“I’m back to take what's mine. I am the new owner of Thorne’s Renegades.”

  • Rebirth of the Vengeful Luna   Dreaming

Chapter 67Ravenna's POVI was dreaming about the office.Something mundane, Sienna handing me a file, the ordinary texture of a workday, the kind of dream that meant my mind had finally found a few hours of rest after a day that had asked too much of it.Then a hand closed around my shoulder.I came awake the way I had learned to come awake in this second life, fast, complete, no soft transitional fog between sleep and full alertness. The old me, the one who had died slow and unprepared, would have surfaced gradually. This me surfaced like something breaking the water's tension.Jaxen was leaning over the bed.His face was different.I had spent weeks learning his expressions, the contained neutral, the working neutral, the rare unguarded moments where something true broke through. I had a catalogue of him by now, built carefully across months of observation. This wasn't in the catalogue. His eyes had gone hard in a way that had nothing to do with anger and everything to do with focu

  • Rebirth of the Vengeful Luna   The message

Chapter 66Damien's POVThe message came through at nine forty three.I was at my kitchen table with a glass of water I hadn't touched and the council session agenda I had been refining for three days. Everything mapped. Every contingency accounted for. The votes secured, the timing planned, the sequence of Friday laid out so clearly in my head that I had stopped needing the paper in front of me and was just sitting with it.I was in control. That was the thing I had kept returning to all week. Whatever Ravenna had managed to hold together in that board meeting, whatever Jaxen had survived by some combination of her protection and legal maneuvering, none of it had reached the pack. None of it had touched the council. Friday was still mine if I executed correctly and I was always going to execute correctly because executing correctly was the one thing in my life I had never failed at.Then my phone lit up.The message was brief.*She's here. Wolf territory. Arrived with Crowe an hour a

  • Rebirth of the Vengeful Luna   The compound

Chapter 65Jaxen's POVThe compound quieted around nine. Not silence it never went fully silent, there was always someone awake, always something moving at the edges of a place this size. But the quality of the noise changed. The purposeful hum of the working day softening into something more human. Voices lower. Footsteps less urgent. The particular settling of a place that had done what it needed to do for the day and was allowing itself to rest.I had always loved this hour.I hadn't known that until I built a place worth loving it in.Ravenna had been in with Malik for the last forty minutes, going over the council brief with the focused intensity she brought to everything. I had checked in twice and left them to it, Malik was thorough and she was thorough and two thorough people didn't need me interrupting their rhythm. When she came out her notebook had three new pages of notes and her expression had the particular quality it got when she had taken in a significant amount of inf

  • Rebirth of the Vengeful Luna   The tour

Chapter 64Ravenna's POVHe didn't call it a tour.He just walked, and explained things as they became relevant, and let me set the pace. That was the difference, I had been on tours before, the kind where someone led you at their speed through their story and you were expected to respond on cue. This was different. This was someone who understood that I needed to see things in my own order and had decided to make that possible.I noticed. I filed it. I kept walking. The main building first.Inside it was warmer than the outside air had suggested, the kind of warmth that came from people rather than heating systems. Wide ceilings, exposed timber, the kind of space that had been designed to hold groups comfortably rather than impress them. A long communal table dominated the central room, not decorative, used. There were marks on it, the accumulated evidence of years of meals and meetings and the ordinary wear of a place where people actually lived.Three wolves were in the kitchen whe

  • Rebirth of the Vengeful Luna   The car

Chapter 63Malik's POVI had been waiting at the gate since five. Not because Jaxen had asked me to. He hadn't specified, just said they would arrive before dark, which at this time of year meant a window of about ninety minutes and I had positioned myself at the beginning of it rather than the middle.Old habit.Jaxen had been my Alpha for four years and before that he had been the man who pulled me out of a situation I wasn't going to survive on my own, so the habit was older than the title. Some things became instinct before you understood what they were training you for.I heard the car before I saw it.When it came through the tree line and the headlights swept across the gate, I straightened without deciding to. Another reflex. The kind that happened when something you had been anticipating for a long time finally arrived.I had been anticipating Ravenna Solace for weeks. Not her specifically, the idea of her. The woman in the file Jaxen had asked me to compile, the woman whose

  • Rebirth of the Vengeful Luna   The vial

Chapter 62Ravenna's POVThe vial sat in my palm for a moment before I used it.I had already applied it in the car, one line across my wrist the way Jaxen had shown me, but I could still feel the weight of having chosen it. That was the thing nobody told you about making informed choices. They didn't feel lighter than uninformed ones. They felt heavier, because you couldn't distribute the responsibility anywhere else. You had chosen with full knowledge and whatever came next was yours to carry.I had chosen. The rain scent had faded into something I couldn't detect anymore, which Jaxen said was correct, you weren't supposed to be able to smell it on yourself after the first few minutes. Your own nose adjusted. Everyone else's wouldn't.I watched the landscape change. It happened gradually, the way significant things usually did. The city hadn't ended so much as thinned, buildings becoming less frequent, then absent, the road widening, the quality of the dark on either side shifting f

  • Rebirth of the Vengeful Luna   The Rebirth

Chapter 5Ravenna’s POVThe pain didn't feel real at first.I stared at the knife, my mind in limbo as if it couldn't grasp the concept of someone being so cruel she didn't bat an eye to kill.It was when she yanked the blade out and blood gushed from the wound, forcing the air from my lungs, that

  • Rebirth of the Vengeful Luna   Your baby goes

Chapter 4Ravenna’s POVI knew my adoptive father had a daughter.Of course I did.Elias had never hidden that from me. But she ran away from home and never came back. I believed the only reason he adopted me was to fill the void she left in his heart.I didn’t mind. He was the closest thing to bei

  • Rebirth of the Vengeful Luna   The Shock

Chapter 2Ravenna’s POVThe rally grounds were already alive when I arrived. Music blasted from massive speakers. The energy was buzzing and my nerves were all over the place.I stepped out of my car and into the crowd, scanning faces.Where are you?Flashing lights from cameras cut across the nigh

  • Rebirth of the Vengeful Luna   Choose the baby

Chapter 1Ravenna’s POV“You will die if you carry this baby to term.” She spelled out the words. Her face twisted in anger that she was failing to suppress.Despite her jarring words, I shook my head, my hand trembling as I clutched my chest.I’d been told several times. Usually, they were sugar
