DAPHNE’S POV

I walked down the quiet alley, glancing around as I checked the address written on the small piece of paper in my hand.

The air felt oddly heavy, as if the street itself were holding its breath.

Block 32.

I let out a quiet sigh of relief and headed toward it. Once I reached the door, I knocked and waited patiently.

That was when I felt it. The tiny hairs on the back of my neck rose, and my heart skipped.

Slowly, I looked over my shoulder.

People passing by were staring at me. One

ZACHARY'S POVI tore the suit jacket off and threw it across the room.Another male’s scent still clung to my memory.I needed answers — now.I have been waiting for days to receive a report from him, but it's been too quiet.I read it, and clenched my jaw. "The guest list was manipulated. A lot of guest present at the event weren't on the list. I will send the list to you."A minute later, he sent it. I went through it, taking note of the people who had attended. Kennedy name wasn't on the list, so were many others. It doesn't make sense. The names on the list were twenty and the people in attendance were close to sixty.Eleanor must have infiltrated the guest list. But why would she do that?I quickly typed a message: "Find out more about Kennedy. He attended the event and was close to Daphne the entire time. His face would be captured in the CCTV footages."I leaned back waiting for his reply. This couldn't be a coincidence. The annual festival is well known and celebrated by the p

ZACHARY'S POVTonight was supposed to be controlled. Civil. Forgettable. Then another male touched my mate.“I had planned to get through the night quietly, without drawing attention. But then he touched her.”When she walked in with her yellow dress, which hugged her body tightly, and complimented her skin, I was lost staring at her.Other guys had their eyes on her, and that got me pissed off. They were lucky we were out in the open, I would have pluck off their eyes for daring to look at her.I was interrupted by some council members from Bateview, and when I looked back at her, she was looking at me.Those blue eyes of hers sparkling under the moonlight. I wanted to cover the space between us and kiss her, but I had to hold back. I couldn't lose control or I lose her. But, she suddenly became friends with this strange guy.How dare he try to claim her as his? How dare he question me? How dare he put his arm around her shoulder?I had no idea where the motherfucker came from, or wh

DAPHNE'S POVThe sound of shattering glass echoed through the hall. Everyone gasped, their heads snapping toward the direction of the noise.A wine glass lay crushed in Zachary Ackerman’s bleeding hand. When my gaze fell on him, for a moment, I wished the ground would swallow me whole. His eyes burned with rage, and the atmosphere instantly became hot and tense. My pulse spiked painfully, as if my body recognized danger before my mind did.Blood dripped from his hand, falling onto the broken shards scattered across the floor. He began walking toward us- slow, deliberate, unstoppable and my foolish brain chose that moment to go numb. I couldn’t move. Not a single step. When he reached us, his gaze dropped to where Ken’s hand rested on mine.I waited for it.I knew he was going to do something terrible, maybe hit Ken, maybe drag me away by force. If he did that, it would be over. I would reject him publicly, and I wouldn’t care about his ego.His eyes lingered on our joined hands, and t

DAPHNE'S POVANNUAL YOUNG WOLVES FESTIVALOnce a year, every pack in Louisville gathered on the mountainside- a night of celebration, alliances, and silent power displays. It only comes once in every year, but it was a day I always long for.Even this year, a part of me wished I had stayed home.Music, firelight, and the scent of hundreds of wolves filled the air.Daisy and I were always chaperoned every year, but this time, we are adults. We would have the fun we want without getting stopped, well, except hanging out with boys.Dad and mom would be there. They were part of the organizers this year, and I am sure they would have their eyes on us."All done," Daisy said, smiling at me, or rather, admiring her work.I had wanted to escape after getting dressed, but she dragged me back because it was the night I shouldn't forget, so I needed some makeover.I looked at myself in the mirror, and for a moment, I wondered who the person I was staring at was.Well, myself, but a different ver

Zachary's POVI sat at the far end of the restaurant, positioned where I could see every entrance and her.No one approached Daphne without passing through my line of sight. She was speaking to a woman I had already looked into— harmless, human, no threat. They talked for long hours before the woman stood up and left, leaving Daphne behind.Daphne stayed, working on something in her laptop. She looked serious, trying to navigate whatever it was."Sir, your coffee," the waitress said, dropping it carefully on the table. "Let me know if you need anything," she whispered and winked at me.I shook my head and averted my gaze back to Daphne. "That would be all, thanks."She walked away. I wanted nothing to distract me from watching my beloved. If watching her from the shadows kept her alive, then I would watch forever. As long as she's safe.Daphne let out a deep breath and leaned backward, She leaned back, pressing her fingers into the base of her neck, exhaustion written across her face

Eleanor’s POV“Daily report,” I typed into my laptop. “The plan is still in full motion. Daphne remains under our manipulation, and there is no sign of change in her behavior.”I leaned back in my chair, reflecting on everything I had observed.I had been watching her closely, and so far, there had been no sign of Zachary around her. He was truly avoiding her, which worked perfectly in my favor. She had been getting closer to that guy Thelma told me about. Good. He would be the perfect distraction. The perfect replacement to occupy her mind and slowly erase Zachary from it.I let out a slow breath and rested my head against the chair. I didn’t even have to push much anymore. Nature was doing the work for me.Zachary had already lost.Or maybe he was planning something. It didn’t matter. There was no winning move left for him.“Zachary has been quiet these days,” I continued typing. “There are no reports of him going near her. If he is planning something, it’s irrelevant. He has alread
