Evelyn stood motionless beside the bed, staring at the glowing words in front of her.

**Survival Storage System initialized.**

**Current capacity: 10 cubic meters.**

She reached out cautiously. Her fingers passed through the text, and it vanished.

“Show yourself again.”

Nothing happened.

Evelyn frowned. In her previous life, she had heard rumors about people developing strange abilities after the apocalypse. Some could produce fire, others possessed unusual strength, and a few claimed to have storage spaces.

But those powers had appeared after the disaster began.

She had never heard of anyone receiving a system thirty days beforehand.

“Storage,” she whispered.

A faint pull stirred inside her mind. She focused on the bedside lamp, imagining it disappearing.

The lamp vanished.

Evelyn stumbled backward.

For one terrifying second, she thought she had destroyed it. Then she sensed something occupying a small space inside her consciousness. She could feel the lamp sitting there, intact and untouched.

“Return.”

The lamp reappeared on the bedside table.

Evelyn pressed a hand over her mouth.

It worked.

She tried again with a book, then a glass of water. Both disappeared and returned exactly as they had been. The system required concentration, but it responded to her thoughts.

A small notification appeared.

**Storage used: 0.02 cubic meters.**

**Remaining capacity: 9.98 cubic meters.**

Her excitement faded into calculation.

Ten cubic meters sounded generous until she considered what she needed to survive. Food, water, medicine, clothing, tools, and fuel would occupy space quickly. She could not store an entire supermarket, and she had no idea whether the system would grow stronger.

She needed to use it carefully.

First, she checked the time. It was still early morning. Her phone showed several missed calls from Nicole Mitch.

She ignored them and opened her banking application.

Her personal savings were substantial, but not limitless. She had money in an account Nicole could not access, along with funds in a joint account they had maintained since their marriage. Their apartment was also registered under both their names.

In her previous life, she had trusted him enough to give him access to almost everything.

That mistake would cost her again if she did not act quickly.

Evelyn called her bank.

After confirming her identity, she requested a security review of her accounts, changed her passwords, and disabled access from unfamiliar devices. She could not simply take money that legally belonged to both of them, but she could protect her personal funds and document every transaction.

Next, she opened her contacts and called a lawyer she had met through a former colleague.

“Good morning,” she said when he answered. “I need advice about separating my finances from my husband and beginning divorce proceedings.”

There was a brief pause.

“Has something happened?”

Evelyn looked toward the window. The city outside was peaceful. Cars moved along the road, and a delivery rider stopped outside the neighboring building.

In thirty days, ordinary scenes like this would become memories.

“Yes,” she replied. “Something is going to happen. I need to be prepared.”

The lawyer arranged a consultation for that afternoon.

Only then did she check Nicole’s messages.

*What was that attitude about?*

*Call me back.*

*Vanessa is upset. You should apologize for embarrassing me.*

Evelyn read the final message twice.

She almost laughed.

She had not embarrassed him. She had simply refused to hand over half a million without asking questions.

In her previous life, she would have spent hours wondering how to make him happy again. Now, his anger was useful. It reminded her that the man she married had never considered her kindness a gift. He considered it an obligation.

She typed a short reply.

*I won't be transferring the money. Please stop using our marriage as a reason to demand my personal savings.*

She sent it, blocked his number temporarily, and began making a list.

Water purification tablets. Canned food. Rice. Beans. Cooking oil. First-aid supplies. Antibiotics if she could obtain them legally. Batteries. Flashlights. Soap. Sanitary products. Sturdy shoes.

She added pet food, then stopped.

She did not own a pet, but she remembered the abandoned animals she had seen during the first weeks of the apocalypse. There would be limits to what she could save. She could not rescue everyone, and pretending otherwise would only endanger her.

The realization hurt, but she wrote the item down anyway.

At noon, Evelyn dressed in a simple blouse and jeans, tied her hair back, and left for the nearest wholesale supermarket. She carried a small notebook and set a strict spending limit for the first trip.

She would not panic-buy. She would not waste money on expensive luxuries. Every purchase needed a purpose.

The supermarket was busy, but nothing seemed unusual. Evelyn moved through the aisles, comparing prices and checking expiration dates. She bought rice, beans, canned fish, bottled water, and basic hygiene supplies.

When her cart was full, she found an empty corner near the storage area and focused on the bags.

One by one, they disappeared.

No one noticed.

A quiet satisfaction settled over her. For the first time since waking up, she felt that her second chance was becoming something real.

Then her phone vibrated.

An unknown number had sent her a message.

*Evelyn, this is Vanessa. Nicole told me you're refusing to help him. I didn't realize you were so selfish.*

Evelyn stared at the screen.

Vanessa had always preferred to let other people fight her battles. Even before the apocalypse, she had been skilled at making herself look innocent while quietly taking what belonged to others.

Evelyn typed a response, then deleted it.

She did not need to argue with Vanessa. Words would change nothing.

Instead, she took a photograph of the message and saved it.

Evidence mattered. Money mattered. Survival mattered.

And when the time came to settle accounts, Evelyn intended to remember every debt.

She put her phone away and turned toward the checkout.

Thirty days remained.

She had a tiny storage space, limited money, and enemies who still believed she was the same obedient woman they had always known.

Let them believe it.

For now, Evelyn Hart had more important things to do.

By the time they reached the sports field, the first injured residents were already arriving. The field was surrounded by a low fence, with an open entrance wide enough for people to pass through without crowding. A few families had gathered near the far end, carrying bags and blankets. Others stood in small groups, staring at the damaged streets as if waiting for someone to tell them what to do.There was no one in charge.Evelyn helped guide the injured rider onto a patch of level ground away from the fence and nearby buildings. Damien's men checked his condition while another resident searched for something to use as a temporary splint. The rider was frightened, but conscious.“Will I lose my leg?” he asked.“No one can tell you that yet,” Evelyn answered honestly. “For now, keep it still and let them examine you.”She moved away before he could ask more questions. She was not a doctor, and pretending otherwise would help nobody.A woman hurried toward them with a little girl in he

The first crack split the street just before dawn.Evelyn heard it from inside the house, a deep, tearing sound that seemed to rise from beneath the ground. Before she could reach the window, the floor lurched sideways. A cabinet toppled in the kitchen, glass shattered, and the lights went out. Then the earth moved again.Evelyn dropped beside the reinforced wall, covering her head as the house groaned around her. The shaking was stronger than anything she had experienced since her rebirth. Shelves crashed to the floor. Something heavy struck the roof, followed by a series of sharp impacts outside. She counted her breaths, forcing herself not to rush toward the door.In her previous life, panic had killed more people than the disasters themselves. They had run into streets filled with falling concrete, crowded staircases, and buildings that looked stable until the next tremor brought them down. When the shaking finally stopped, Evelyn waited.Dust drifted through the narrow beams of e

Evelyn knew something was wrong when the radio went silent in the middle of an announcement. She turned the volume higher.Nothing.She changed stations. One channel produced static, another played a few broken words before cutting out completely. Her phone still had a signal, but several news pages refused to load. She checked the time and put the phone down. The loss of a broadcast did not automatically mean the entire network had failed. She wasn't going to panic over a technical problem. Then the first aircraft passed overhead. The sound was so loud that the windows vibrated. Evelyn hurried to the security monitor and looked toward the main road. People had stopped in the street, staring at the sky. A few pointed upward while others rushed back into their houses.Another aircraft followed.A moment later, a deep rumble rolled across the city.Evelyn felt it through the floor. She watched a cloud of dust rise beyond the rooftops. The camera shook slightly before the image steadied

The first scream came from the house next door.Evelyn dropped the radio remote and hurried to the security monitor.A man was forcing his way through the neighboring property's gate. Behind him, three others were carrying bags and shouting at someone inside the house. The owner, an older man who lived alone, stood in the doorway holding a metal rod.“Get away from my house!” he yelled. One of the intruders lunged at him.The older man swung the rod, striking the attacker's shoulder. The others surged forward, knocking him against the doorframe. Within seconds, the fight had spilled into the yard.Evelyn reached for her phone and called the police. She gave the address and reported an active assault. The operator asked whether anyone had weapons.“I can see a metal rod,” Evelyn replied. “I can't tell if the others have anything else.”She ended the call and watched the camera. The intruders were no longer interested in the bags. Two of them were dragging the older man toward the gate

  • Reborn Before Doomsday: My Ex husband will kneel    Chapter 36

The first thing Evelyn noticed was the smell of smoke. It drifted through the street before sunrise, sharp enough to wake her from sleep. She got out of bed, grabbed her phone, and checked the exterior cameras.A building two streets away was burning.Flames poured from a ground-floor shop, climbing toward the apartments above. Residents crowded the pavement in nightclothes, shouting for people still inside to come out. A man carried a little girl down the stairs while another resident helped an elderly woman across the road. Then a window shattered.A burning curtain fell onto the awning below, spreading the fire along the front of the building.Evelyn immediately called emergency services.“There's a fire in a residential building,” she reported, giving the location. “People are still evacuating, and the flames are reaching the upper floors.”The operator confirmed that firefighters were being dispatched.Evelyn watched as a man rushed back toward the entrance.Someone grabbed his a

  • Reborn Before Doomsday: My Ex husband will kneel    Chapter 35

The first thing Evelyn heard that morning was the sound of someone trying to break into a car.She checked the security monitor.A silver sedan sat abandoned near the junction, its rear window shattered. Two men were pulling bags from the back seat while a third kept watch. When a woman came running toward them, one man shoved her to the ground.“Those are my things!” she screamed. He kicked her bag toward the road and threatened her when she tried to stand.Evelyn picked up her phone and reported the incident. Before she finished speaking, one of the men spotted a police vehicle approaching in the distance. The three abandoned the bags and ran between the buildings. The woman scrambled to her feet, gathered what remained of her belongings, and hurried away.Evelyn turned off the monitor. The situation was changing quickly. The previous day had been filled with accidents and fires. Now people were beginning to take advantage of the confusion, stealing from strangers who were already s
