On the third day of Gideon’s imprisonment, he still refused to eat.

I knew what he was doing. He was gambling, assuming that I would not have the heart to let him die. He was right. I did not want him dead.

It was not because I still cared but because I valued life more than he ever did.

Besides, this ridiculous revenge of his had already cost too many innocent lives.

So, I brought the food myself and went to see him.

He looked haggard and was a shadow of himself, though it had only been a few days.

For some reason, I almost laughed. Just a few months ago, the scene had played out in reverse.
