Chapter 2 My best friend turned out a homewrecker

Author: Rain_R
Ophelia sat weakly on the cold hospital bed, cold sweat covering her forehead.

She could still feel the warmth of her child on her chest, but the harsh reality was that her child had been taken away—taken before she could even hold her properly.

She gripped her hospital gown tightly, her hands trembling, and tears blurred her vision. Why? Why had Alexander become so cruel?

The door to her room was pushed open—

“Ophelia?”

She turned quickly, hope flashing in her broken eyes. “Wren!”

Wren hesitated for a moment before rushing forward. As soon as she got close, Ophelia threw herself into her arms, holding her tightly as if she were a lifeline.

“He took her,” Ophelia sobbed. “Alexander took my child, Wren! He—he said she’s not his, and now he wants a divorce!”

Wren froze for a moment in Ophelia’s embrace, but Ophelia was lost in her sorrow and didn’t notice.

She pulled back slightly, her red eyes desperately searching Wren’s face. “You have to help me. Wren, you know Alexander only trusts you. You’re good friends, aren’t you? He always listens to you.”

For a brief moment, a flicker of a happy expression crossed Wren’s face.

She quickly masked it.

“Ophelia…” she bit her lip, hesitating before speaking softly. “I can’t—I—”

“You can!” Ophelia gasped as a sharp pain surged in her chest. She gripped Wren’s hand tightly. “Please! You’re my best friend! You’ve always supported me, haven’t you?”

Ophelia clung to Wren, her gaze pleading. “Please, just say something, and he’ll believe you.”

Wren let out a cold laugh, prying Ophelia’s fingers away and standing up, looking down at her from above.

“Ophelia, darling. How naïve are you?”

“Wha—what do you mean?” Ophelia’s eyes widened.

Wren’s lips curled into a smile that didn’t resemble a smile at all. “Why would I help you? Everything that’s happened is because of me.”

A chill ran down Ophelia’s spine. “Wren… what are you talking about?!”

“Enough. Ophelia, stop pretending to be innocent. You’ve been hurting me all along. You have everything—a wealthy family, an enviable life… But what infuriates me the most is that you got Alexander’s love.”

“He’s my husband!” Ophelia shouted, her voice trembling with rage. “I never stole him from you! I didn’t even know about you—”

“Of course you didn’t know!” Wren laughed loudly. “Because you never saw me, never cared about me!”

She pulled out her phone from her pocket, opened the recording, and played Alexander’s whispered voice.

“Wren… that feels so good…”

The voice pierced Ophelia’s eardrum like a dagger.

She staggered back, gripping the iron railing of the hospital bed, her knuckles turning white.

But Wren didn’t stop, pulling open her shirt collar to reveal fresh kiss marks on her neck.

“He’s a beast, but I like him that way. You know, Alexander was hurt by you. I was just comforting him. I didn’t do anything wrong…”

Ophelia’s throat felt like it was filled with glass shards. She couldn’t breathe, couldn’t move.

“You’re crazy,” she murmured.

Ophelia could barely breathe. The man she loved, the man she had poured her heart into, had betrayed her, and was now with her best friend.

“Get away!” Ophelia screamed. She had to go tell Alexander, but a man grabbed her faster.

Wren approached her, forcibly lifting her chin. “Oh, here’s the best part,” she continued, leaning in slightly. “Do you remember when Alexander’s mother fell down the stairs?”

Ophelia clenched her fists. How could she forget that day? “The servants… said I pushed her.” That was the beginning of Alexander’s hatred for her.

But they still had sex, and later she got pregnant, thinking the baby would be the turning point in their relationship. But then—

Her angry gaze shifted back to Wren.

“She lied,” Wren’s smile became even more dazzling. “I pushed her. But of course, everyone believed it was you.”

Ophelia struggled, trying to escape, but she had no strength left.

How could Alexander believe this snake of a woman!

As if sensing her doubt, Wren explained. “Oh, forget it, Ophelia, don’t waste your energy. You know Alexander already hated your mother. I just nudged him in the right direction, and he instantly believed it was you who did it.”

Ophelia’s knees buckled, and she collapsed. Her mother had ruined Alexander’s family, and now she was being falsely accused of pushing his mother.

Of course, he would believe she was avenging her mother.

When Alexander chose Wren, this snake, he lost all trust in her.

Tears slid down her face, but she quickly wiped them away.

“Wren… you won. You can keep Alexander. I just want my child.”

“How could I let you take Alexander’s child?” Wren laughed.

“What do you want to do!” Ophelia rushed forward. Before she could touch her, Wren pulled out a fruit knife and stabbed it into her abdomen.

And the bodyguards immediately backed away.

Ophelia quickly stepped forward, pressing her hands over Wren’s stomach. “Wren, are you okay?”

The door to the hospital room was pushed open again, and Alexander rushed in, immediately shoving Ophelia aside. “You and your child will have to pay the price.”

The countryside unfurled in hues of gold and green as their car rolled along the narrow road. The late afternoon sun painted everything with warmth — the grass, the trees, the glimmering stream running beside the road.Inside the car, the soft hum of music played from the radio. Ophelia leaned her head against the window, watching the sky melt into shades of orange and pink. The world looked so calm — almost too calm for the storm of memories running through her mind.It had been five years since she was given her second chance. Five years since the chaos, the heartbreak, and the endless nights of crying until she couldn’t breathe. Now, as she looked out at the sunset, she found herself thinking — maybe this was why fate gave her another life. Not for revenge. Not for pain. But to heal. Her gaze shifted toward Alexander. He sat beside her, one hand on the steering wheel, the other holding their daughter’s small fingers as she slept peacefully on his lap. His expression was soft — the k

Five years later -The air shimmered with sunlight and camera flashes. The crowd outside Lunaria Scents’ newest branch sparkled with excitement — journalists, investors, and fans, all waiting for a glimpse of the woman who had turned a small dream into an empire.Ophelia stood before the grand glass doors, draped in a cream silk blouse and an elegant pencil skirt that hugged her slender frame. Her hair, once a tangled mess of chaos and grief, now cascaded in smooth waves over her shoulders. A quiet confidence radiated from her — the kind that wasn’t loud, but steady and earned. Her perfume line had started in a small rented room three years ago. Now, it had become a household name, whispered with reverence among luxury brands. Lunaria Scents wasn’t just a business; it was her resurrection — her proof that she could create beauty even from pain.Reporters called out her name, flashes bursting like fireworks.“Ms. Ophelia! Over here!”“Tell us how you feel about your second launch!”“Wha

Six months later -The plane ride felt almost unreal.Ophelia had no idea where Alexander was taking her; he’d only told her to pack light and trust him. For the first time in months, she’d done just that. The moment they stepped out of the airport, the salty breeze hit her face and she looked around, eyes wide. The turquoise sea stretched endlessly, and the horizon shimmered like melted silver under the sun.She turned to him. “Where are we going?”He smiled — that soft, boyish smile that once could melt her anger no matter how hard she tried to hold onto it. “A date.”She blinked. “A what?”He chuckled, brushing a loose strand of her hair behind her ear. “A date, Mrs. Soon-to-be-Mine-Again.”“Don’t call me that,” she muttered, hiding her smile as he opened the car door for her. “You’re too much sometimes.”“That’s good. Because I plan to be too much for the rest of your life,” he said, winking. The drive along the coastal road was peaceful. The sun was setting, painting the sky with

In the days that followed, life finally began to feel… normal.Or at least, something close to it.Alexander made up for every lost moment as though time itself was running out. From the instant he woke until the moment he fell asleep, he was there — quietly, persistently, making amends. He’d follow Ophelia around the house with the stubborn gentleness of a man who refused to let her lift a finger. He’d bring her breakfast, sometimes burnt toast or overly sweet coffee, and she’d laugh softly despite herself. He’d wait for her outside her study just to walk her down to dinner, or appear behind her in the garden with a blanket when the wind grew cold. And slowly, piece by piece, the walls between them began to crumble. He healed, too. The burns on his skin faded to faint pink scars, the bandages replaced by soft cotton shirts that smelled of her. Ophelia helped him recover with a care that reminded her of the woman she used to be — the one who loved him without fear. She told herself it

The road back home was silent. The engine’s hum was soft, steady, and the only sound between them. Alexander’s head rested against Ophelia’s shoulder, his breath warm against her neck. His skin smelled faintly of antiseptic and smoke. The bandages wrapped around his arms peeked from his sleeve, and she could feel the slight tremor of pain in his body even as he tried to stay still. He had fallen asleep — or maybe he was just too exhausted to stay awake any longer. Either way, he was calm now, his expression almost boyish. The same man who had once made her bleed with his words now looked fragile. Human. She turned her gaze toward the window. The scenery passed in blurred strokes — trees, buildings, the gray sky — but she barely saw any of it. Her mind was a storm of thoughts. She had done everything possible to bury the past. She had promised herself she would never look back. Yet here he was, sleeping on her shoulder as though the universe was mocking her promises. Her fingers twitche

The car hadn’t even stopped when Alexander threw the door open and stumbled out. His whole body screamed in pain — his burned skin pulling against the tight bandages, the raw ache beneath them pulsing with every breath — but he didn’t care. Not now. Not when his chest was bursting with terror that he was too late again.“Alexander!” Robert shouted, running after him as he sprinted across the gravel, but Alexander didn’t stop. His heart was pounding too loud for him to hear anything else. The world around him blurred — the air thick, heavy, suffocating — and all he could see in his mind was the memory of losing her once before. He had felt this same panic once. In his past life — that cursed, empty life where he had lost her and destroyed himself. He remembered the moment he found her gone, the silence that had followed, and the blood on his hands when he finally pulled the trigger on himself. He couldn’t live through that again. He wouldn’t.When he reached the field, his chest burned
