I raised my brows after opening my eyes when I heard a knock on the door of my suite. I moved towards the door and smirked when I got her scent. The first culprit of mine was now at my doorstep.
I opened the door, and my personal maid, an omega, Neelie Ranger, smiled at me.
“Happy birthday, Alpha, and good morning.” She greeted me with the same cheerfulness that she always showed the first thing in the morning.
“Thanks, Neelie.” I thanked her while walking back in the room.
“I ……….. brought a little gift for you, Alpha. I…. I wish th… that you will like it.” She spoke in the same manner that she used in my past life, stammering a little, showing her timidness and that fake hopefulness at the same time.
“Every gift given with sincerity is precious, Neelie. Put that on the vanity table, and thanks for the gift. No matter what that thing is, I am sure that it will be beautiful.” I replied to her nonchalantly while walking to my closet.
I opened it and took my working clothes out. Honey, my wolf, snickered at the back of my mind, making me smile too.
This wasn’t my response in my past life. I expressed my gratitude to her while taking that gift from her with a wide smile on my lips.
My parents forgot about my birthday a long time ago, and they never prepared any gift for me. It was Neelie who always gave me something as a gift on every birthday.
I always treasured her gifts, but on my deathbed, I learned that Naomi succeeded in teaming up with Neelie three years ago, and all the gifts that she brought to me after that were filled with dark spells and potions to weaken me.
Naomi wanted to weaken my wolf and me so that I couldn’t get the full potential of my wolf.
So, after my rebirth, I threw away all her previous gifts but kept the recent ones, as I will have a perfect use for them in the future.
Obviously, I replaced them secretly with similar things to keep them delusional.
“Oh, right. Your father met me when I was coming to your room. He said that your presence is required during breakfast.” She told me anxiously.
I frowned in confusion but nodded to her in response. I remember meeting my parents and Naomi after my training today, but I wasn’t specifically called like this.
“I …… I baked a small birthday cake for you too, Alpha. Ca…. can we have that in the evening?” She asked me next, but I stiffened.
The cake….
How could I forget her kind gesture of baking a birthday cake for me, which was filled with a potion meant to weaken my bond with Lucian?
The twist here…..
The potion will only make me feel the intense pain of rejection but will save Lucian.
Their motive???
To show everyone that I am not as strong as I pretend.
I slowly moved towards her with a practiced smile on my lips with my clothes in my hands.
“I am really grateful to you, Neelie. I appreciate your kind gesture of baking a cake for me when my family forgot that it’s my birthday today. Let’s have the cake with everyone during breakfast. It may be my last birthday as the eldest alpha’s daughter. Next year, you will be in charge of my birthday party. I want the whole pack to know how good you are at baking cakes.” I replied to her enthusiastically, noticing every subtle change in her expression.
Her smile froze as soon as I mentioned sharing that cake with everyone at the breakfast table. She paled for a few seconds when I mentioned my next birthday.
“What’s wrong, Neelie? Yo…. You suddenly went pale.” I asked her with a concerned expression on my face.
“I….. I am okay, Alpha. I …. I am really okay. You… suddenly mentioned th… that it may be your last birthday. So…… so I got scared. You scared me to death.” She laughed anxiously in the end while explaining her reaction in a trembling voice, filled with fear.
I gave her a concerned look before moving away and walking towards the bathroom.
“Tell my father that I will be there in fifteen minutes, and bring the cake to the breakfast table in twenty minutes.” I instructed her firmly while walking. I didn’t need to look at her because I knew that she was now scared to death.
Feeding poisoned cake to the whole family can be seen as treason, and the only punishment for this crime is death.
I knew that Neelie would do something not to let anyone else eat that cake, but there is no way that she will be able to prepare a fresh cake in twenty minutes.
And she can’t bring a readymade cake because I know her baking very well. I glanced at her running figure out of the room.
I smirked and entered the bathroom. I finished my routine at ease and put on the training clothes. Even if my father calls me for breakfast, I am not going to miss my training.
I put on my shoes after exiting the bathroom, pulled my hair into a tight bun, and took my phone from the vanity desk before walking out of the room. I didn’t even glance at Neelie’s present but took out an identical pendant from my drawer and put it on.
I already knew what she brought for me. So, I had already arranged a replacement.
I took twelve minutes to finish everything and locked my room after exiting my bedroom. I was putting on my wristbands when Naomi’s room’s door opened.
“Good morning, sis.” Naomi greeted me anxiously, but I stiffened when I smelled his scent coming from her.
“What is Lucian doing in your room, Naomi?” I asked her angrily while marching towards her.
She panicked and immediately spread her hands to hold the doorframe to stop me.
“What are you talking about, sis? How …. How could Lucian be in my room?” She yelled in panic, but with a forceful push, I made her stagger inside her room when she tried to come out and closed the door behind her. She lost her balance and almost fell to the ground on her butt, but she saved her fall somehow.
It seemed that my beloved sister and my mate couldn't control themselves, giving me a perfect chance to ruin their reputation in front of the pack.
I kicked the door and stormed inside the room. “Dad….. come to Naomi’s room now.” I roared at my father through mind-link but didn’t mask my fury. Honey also growled angrily, standing up, ready to tear them apart at any time.
I let my fury flow out of my body so that the whole pack house could sense it.
“You are mistaken, sis. No one is in my room.” Naomi screamed in panic, not an act, but sheer fear.
I stopped at the door, locking my eyes on the man standing on the other side of her bed, with only boxers on his body; froze when he saw me.
Xyla’s P.O.V.A full year had passed since the night the Moon Goddess bound our fates forever at the Starfire Altar, and the world had finally learned the quiet art of peace.Nestled along the pristine eastern shore of the lake, far removed from the towering stone ramparts, heavy oak doors, and endless political courtrooms of the Night Howl Packhouse, stood our small timber-and-stone cottage. It was a haven built from scratch with our own hands—where wild star-lilies, climbing honeysuckle, and blooming jasmine wrapped around the wooden porch railings, filling the soft afternoon breeze with the intoxicating, sweet scent of uninterrupted life. From the wide, open kitchen window, the melodic, ringing sound of childish laughter echoed across the manicured garden, cutting through the warm air like silver bells.I leaned against the wooden windowsill, wiping my flour-dusted hands on my cotton apron.A soft, helpless smile spread across my face as I looked out at the yard. There, sitting on
No One's P.O.V.The heavy oak doors of the Night Howl Packhouse swung open, releasing a low, echoing rumble across the marble courtyard as Xander and Xyla made their triumphant return home. For weeks, the pack had awaited the return of their Alpha. But as Xander stepped across the threshold with Xyla beside him, her hand securely laced in his, a collective breath caught in the throats of every warrior, healer, and family member gathered in the grand foyer. She no longer bore the shadowed, exhausted gaze of a woman running from an ancient curse or hiding from political schemes. She walked with the quiet, radiant authority of a true Luna, blessed directly by the Moon Goddess and tempered through the fires of war.At the base of the grand staircase stood Beta Rudolf, his usual stern, unyielding posture softening into a broad, genuine smile.Beside him stood Brian and Ruben. The subtle, freshly forged silver mark humming softly on Ruben’s collarbone matched the brilliant Alpha-tracker sce
The atmosphere in the Great Hall remained festive, the echo of laughter and clinking ale mugs reverberating off the high stone arches.Yet beneath the surface of my joy, a tender ache bloomed within my chest.Deep within the sanctum of my soul core, a quiet voice whispered—fragile, heavy, and resigned.“Vera,” I called softly in the quiet privacy of my mind, reaching toward the luminous spirit of my wolf sister nested beside Honey.Honey was holding her tightly; her own heartbreak was evident in her gaze.“I need to go now, right?” Vera whispered. Her voice carried a heartbreak that echoed through my own ribs, yet beneath the grief was an overwhelming, unselfish warmth. She understood. Ruben’s soul belonged to Brian now, bound by the sacred design of the Moon Goddess. For Vera to remain tethered to Ruben’s spirit core—even as a faint, remnant echo of a past life—would only trap him in the ghost of what used to be.“You gave him a second chance at life, Vera. You love him wholeheartedl
Xyla’s P.O.V.The grand hall of the packhouse had never looked so radiant.Banners woven with rich emerald silk and silver oak leaves hung from the towering arched ceiling, reflecting the warm, ambient glow of hundreds of floating starlight candles. The scent of roasted feast game, crushed lavender, and sweet wild jasmine drifted through the air, completely washing away the bitter tang of sulphur and burnt sage that had haunted our territory for far too long.Tonight was not merely a victory celebration for a war survived—it was the night the tide permanently turned for our people, laying down the foundation for an unshakeable future.Standing before the polished silver mirror in our private quarters, I adjusted the ceremonial silver shoulder mantle resting over Xander’s dark formal tunic. His hair was trimmed neatly, and his dark brown eyes burned with an overwhelming mixture of tenderness, relief, and quiet pride as he watched my reflection through the glass."You are exceptionally
Xyla’s P.O.V. (Continued)"You will not face execution, for I will not spill more pack blood on the heels of this victory. Instead, you will spend your remaining years serving as a low-rank caretaker, rebuilding the outer boundary posts you compromised and tending to the families of the warriors who fell. You will live with the truth, Carl, and you will serve the pack in humility."Tears glistened in Carl's weathered eyes as he sank to one knee, placing his hand over his chest."Thank you... my Luna. Your mercy is a far greater gift than my actions ever deserved."From his chair, Henrick let out a low, rough chuckle, raising his steaming mug in my direction."Told you she had the spirit of a true Alpha Luna, you old fool," Henrick grunted at Carl before smiling up at me.His foolish childish grin made me shake my head helplessly.A ripple of warm laughter and approving nods passed through the assembled elders, breaking the lingering gloom.Xander stepped forward, his massive hand tigh
Xyla’s P.O.V.Validation, clean air, and the overwhelming scent of victory flooded the packhouse courtyard. The afternoon sun, bright and golden, hung high in a sky that seemed impossibly blue.Xander decided to stay in the packhouse for a while before we leave for his pack in a few days or weeks.I still needed to take care of so many things related to the pack. For the first time in as long as my memory reached, the suffocating shadow that had hovered over our territory—the lingering resonance of dark witchcraft, ancient curses, and hidden blood guilt—was entirely gone. The courtyard below was alive with movement. The sharp, metallic tang of battle had vanished, replaced by the rich aromas of roasting game, fresh pine timber, and crushed lavender hanging from the stone arches.Warriors who had spent relentless weeks on edge, eyes dark with exhaustion and hearts steeled for death, were now sitting shoulder-to-shoulder along long oak tables. They clinked heavy iron tankards of ale, th
