Lilith hung up the call so abruptly that the end-tone echoed in the quiet living room like a slap.

For a long second she just stood there…frozen and rigid. Her breathing came out in shallow gasp as if her mind was refusing to process what had just happened.

Then the panic hit.

A sharp, bitter wave, rising from her stomach and crawling up her throat until it became a strangled sound that burst out of her.

“Damn it!” she hissed, voice cracking. “No, no, no… this is bad. This is so bad.”

She pressed both palms into her temples, massaging in frantic circles as she paced the length of the living room. Each step was sharp and uneven, fueled by a mix of fear, rage, and disbelief.

If Xavier…her Xavier—

If he was beginning to doubt her…

If he was seeing her through a different lens…

If he was starting to realize she wasn’t the soft, selfless, angelic woman she pretended to be—

Her entire world would collapse.

“No,” she whispered fiercely, then louder, “No, no, no! I cannot let this happen.”

“Who is this?” The voice asked cautiously.“I am speaking with Bobby correct?” she asked softly, letting her tone linger just enough to make him pause. There was a brief inhale on the other end. “Bobby…?” He said the name cautiously as if ready to deny it but thought against it at the last moment. “Yes,” she answered, letting a tiny note of amusement slip into her voice. “You heard me correctly.”“Who…how do you know my name?” Bobby demanded, his voice sharp, tinged with disbelief. “And who are you?”Aurora kept her calm, letting the confidence she had cultivated in this life radiate through every word. “I know your name because I’m familiar with you. With your work,” she said, her tone smooth but firm. There was a subtle edge beneath her composed exterior.“Who are you?” Bobby repeated, more insistently this time. “And if you don’t tell me your name and your purpose, I’m hanging up.”Aurora’s lips curved into a teasing smile, almost invisible. “Calm down,” she said softly. “You’re s

The room went dead silent.Xavier’s throat worked as he swallowed.Aurora blinked innocently. The nurse waited quietly, unaware of the emotional bomb she had just dropped. And Xavier, caught between two “women” two versions of insanity, and two situations he couldn’t control, looked like a man whose world was slowly slipping out of his hands. He stood tense in the hospital room, Xavier’s gaze snapped to the nurse who had just made things even worse. He spoke in a voice so sharp it could effortlessly slice through butter. “Shut up,” he ordered. “Don’t say what you don’t know…and who told you Lilith was my wife?”The nurse blanched. She stepped back, throat tight.“I’m sorry,” she stammered. “I’m new….I only just resumed my shift. Nobody told me about the situation properly.” Her eyes flicked toward the hallway. “The patient…Lilith, she asked me to call her husband… she even said his name. I didn’t think… I didn’t question it.”Xavier’s lips thinned. He took a deep breath slow enough

The nurses wheeled Aurora back into her hospital room in silence. Her hands rested loosely on the blanket, her face calm, almost too calm. On the outside, she looked like a woman recovering from a medical procedure. On the inside, her mind was sharp, calculating and most of all, alive.Dr. Henry watched her from the doorway for a long second before stepping away and heading down the hall to his office. He didn’t like this. He didn’t like the situation, didn’t like the questions already forming in his mind, and he didn’t like the person he was about to face.Xavier.A few minutes later, a knock sounded on his office door.“Come in,” Dr. Henry said, already knowing who it was.Xavier walked in with long, tense strides. His hands were shoved into his pockets, jaw tight, eyes dark. The kind of look he only wore when he was losing control.“What is going on?” Xavier asked.Dr. Henry gestured to the chair in front of his desk. “Sit down, please.”Xavier didn’t sit immediately. “Just tell m

Xavier’s eyes widened in shock. For a second, he couldn’t breathe. Then he spun toward the door and shouted.“Dr. Henry!”The words tore out of his throat like something had snapped inside him.Almost immediately, Dr. Henry rushed into the room, his coat flaring slightly as he moved.“What is it?” he asked, stepping closer. “What’s wrong?”Xavier didn’t even answer with words at first. He just lifted his hand and pointed at Aurora on the bed like she was something foreign. Something unreal.“You told me she’s fine,” Xavier said, his voice rising. “You told me there was no brain damage.”Dr. Henry looked at Aurora, then back at Xavier.“How come she’s asking who I am?” Xavier continued, his voice cracking with disbelief. “The last time she woke up, she was hysterical, telling me to get away from her. And now she’s asking me who I am.”“Calm down,” Dr. Henry said quickly, holding his hands out. “We’re going to check her. Calm down, Mr. Steele.”Xavier laughed sharply, humorlessly.“Do n

Xavier gently pulled away from Lilith’s hug.His hands rested lightly on her shoulders as he leaned back just enough to look at her face. His brows furrowed, confusion flooding his eyes as he searched her expression.“Lilith…,” he said quietly. “Do you know who I am?”Lilith stared at him like the question made no sense. Her fingers tightened around his shirt.“Of course I do,” she said quickly, almost defensive. “You’re my husband. And we have a son together.”The words hit him like a slap.Xavier froze. His jaw tightened, and slowly, he turned his head toward Dr. Henry, who was still standing by the wall. He didn’t even have to speak. His look said everything.Yes, he had been told her memory was messed up… but this? This was another level entirely.Behind him, Lilith shifted on the hospital bed. Her eyes followed his face nervously.“Where’s our son?” she asked suddenly, her voice cracking. “Where’s Jaxon?”Xavier turned back to her.“Jaxon is fine,” he said carefully. “He’s being

Xavier Steele sat beside Aurora’s hospital bed, hand gently holding hers. The room was quiet except for the soft, steady beep of the monitor and the faint noise of the AC. Outside, the corridor light filtered through the glass window cold and clinical. He didn’t look away from her pale face under the white sheet. Then after a long breath, his fingers loosened just a little as he lifted his phone and dialed.“Hello?”“Good evening, sir,” the voice on the other end answered calm and polite. “It’s been a while. What do you need?”Xavier’s jaw tightened. “I need you to investigate an accident,” he said, voice steady but low. “An accident that involved Aurora.” He paused, making each word count. “I suspect foul play. I need you to dig. All cameras, witnesses, route… everything. Treat it as priority.”There was silence on the line for a moment. Then: “Understood, sir. I’ll start immediately. I’ll call you tomorrow with updates.”“Thank you.” Xavier replied. He hung up and set the phone bes
