Aurora woke to the blinding white of the hospital ceiling. The world around her was muffled, as though she were underwater. Her chest felt heavy, her throat raw, but the first thought that cut through the fog was of Elara.

Her baby.

She turned her head sharply, searching for the small figure that should have been curled beside her bed. Panic clawed at her chest when she saw only Cole, seated in the chair beside her, his face drawn and pale. His hand rested on hers, steady, almost too steady, as though he were holding himself together for her sake.

“Cole,” she rasped, her voice hoarse. “Where’s Elara? Where’s my baby?”

Cole’s expression flickered, pain flashing across his features. He swallowed hard, his voice low and careful. “Aurora…”

“No.” She sat up quickly, her breath coming in shallow bursts. The IV tugged at her arm, but she ignored it, gripping his sleeve with desperate fingers. “Don’t look at me like that. Where is she? Tell me she’s fine.”

Cole reached for her trembling hands, trying to still her. “Aurora… Elara is gone.”

The words struck like a thunderclap, but Aurora shook her head violently. “No! No, that’s not true. Don’t you dare say that.” Her eyes brimmed with tears, wide and wild with denial. “The doctor was fixing her. He said he’d fix her! And you—” her voice cracked, trembling with betrayal—“you promised me, Cole. You promised you’d help her. You said you’d find a cure!”

Cole’s chest constricted. He had faced outbreaks, plagues, human suffering in every form….but never this. Never the sight of Aurora, broken and unraveling as she clung to a hope that had already slipped through her fingers.

“I was going to,” he whispered, his voice thick with grief. “God knows I was going to.”

But Aurora wasn’t listening. She tore the IV out of her arm, the sting of the needle lost beneath her hysteria. Blood dotted her skin, but she barely noticed as she stumbled out of bed.

“Aurora, wait—!” Cole shot up, reaching for her, but she was already rushing for the door.

Her bare feet slapped against the sterile floor as she stormed down the corridor, her hospital gown trailing behind her. Nurses called after her, startled, but she didn’t stop until she burst into the emergency ward.

And then her world froze.

There, under the harsh fluorescent light, two nurses were gently wiping down a small, still body. Elara’s skin was pale, her lips tinged with blue. They were preparing her for the morgue.

“No!” Aurora’s scream tore through the ward like shattered glass. She shoved the nurses aside with a strength born of madness and collapsed over her daughter’s body.

“My baby!” she wailed, clutching Elara to her chest. “Don’t touch her! She’s just sleeping. Do you hear me? She’s fine, she’s just sleeping.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she rocked the little girl back and forth, pressing frantic kisses to her cold forehead. “Wake up, sweetheart. Mommy’s here. You’re okay now. What do you want to eat, hmm? Chicken soup? Pancakes? I’ll make anything you want when we get home.”

But the silence was merciless.

The nurses stood frozen, their eyes glassy with sorrow. Cole stood in the doorway, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles were white, his heart breaking as he watched the woman he once admired crumble in grief.

Dr. Henry approached cautiously, his tone gentle but firm. “Aurora…”

She glared up at him, her face streaked with tears, her arms clutching Elara like a shield. “Don’t you say it. Don’t you dare say she’s gone!”

The doctor’s voice softened further, his eyes heavy with compassion. “If we don’t transfer her now, decomposition will—”

“Shut up!” Aurora screamed, rocking her daughter harder, her words tumbling in broken sobs. “She’s not dead. She’s not! She just needs rest. She just needs me. I won’t let you take her. I won’t let anyone take her from me!”

Her voice cracked into a whisper as she buried her face in Elara’s hair. “I promised I’d protect you, baby. Mommy’s here. Nothing will happen to you. Nothing.”

Cole couldn’t breathe. The sight of Aurora clinging to Elara’s lifeless body, refusing to let go, tore at him in ways he couldn’t have imagined. His own tears burned hot as he turned away, his shoulders shaking.

Finally, Dr. Henry nodded at the nurses. His voice was thick with regret. “Sedate her. It’s the only way.”

A nurse stepped forward with the syringe, her hands trembling. Aurora struggled violently, her screams echoing down the corridor, until the sedative took hold and her body slackened, her head lolling against Elara’s chest.

Even unconscious, her arms were still curled protectively around her daughter until the nurses gently pried them apart.

The emergency ward doors opened, and the sound spilled into the hallway. Curious patients and visitors had gathered, whispers rippling through the crowd. Among them stood Xavier, Lilith, and Jaxon.

Jaxon clung to Xavier’s arm, he had an episode earlier and was brought to the hospital, his little face that looked slightly like Elara’s was pale. Xavier, distracted, frowned as he glanced at the commotion.

“What’s happening?” He asked a nearby nurse.

The nurse’s expression darkened with sorrow.”A woman just lost her child.”

For a fleeting second, Aurora and Elara’s faces flickered across Xavier’s mind. But he shook the thought away, dismissing it as absurd. It couldn’t be them. Not his family. Not like this.

If only he knew.

As Xavier turned back to Lilith and guided Jaxon down the hall, the ward doors opened again. Two stretchers rolled out, one carrying Aurora’s limp body, her face streaked with dried tears, and the other carrying Elara, small and still, shrouded in white.

One bound for the recovery ward.

The other for the morgue.

And Xavier walked away, unaware of how close he had come to the truth.

  • Reborn Of The CEO’s Cold-Hearted Wife   Epilogue: Not Today, But Someday.

AUTHOR’S POV. Three months later, life had settled into something that almost felt… normal. There was no chaos. No fear lurking behind every corner. No constant dread of losing someone. Just peace. A quiet, steady kind of peace that Aurora had once thought she would never experience again. She stood by the kitchen counter, her fingers lightly resting against the cool marble surface, her gaze fixed beyond the glass sliding doors. Outside, sunlight stretched across the backyard, warm and golden, brushing against the green grass and the small garden she had grown to love. The swings she had installed for the kids creaked softly as they moved back and forth. And there they were. Elara’s laughter rang through the air, bright and carefree as she held onto the swing ropes, her legs kicking forward excitedly. Jaxon sat on the other swing, gripping tightly as he laughed, his voice still carrying that slight rasp from everything he had gone through, but stronger now. Healthier. Aliv

  • Reborn Of The CEO’s Cold-Hearted Wife   Chapter 261: The Fall of Pretenders.

AUTHOR’S POV. The boardroom was filled long before the meeting officially began, yet there was an unmistakable tension hanging in the air, thick and suffocating, as if everyone present could feel that something was about to go terribly wrong. Murmurs passed between board members, hushed conversations layered with unease, eyes flicking repeatedly toward the empty head seat at the far end of the long polished table. Xavier’s seat. Still empty. One of the older board members cleared his throat, glancing at his watch. “It’s unlike him to be late,” he muttered, though his voice carried just enough for those closest to him to hear. Another leaned closer, lowering his voice. “Given the rumors circulating… I’m not entirely surprised.” “What rumors?” “That he’s ill. Seriously ill.” Before the conversation could deepen, the doors to the boardroom opened. All heads turned. Lilith walked in first, composed, elegant, her chin lifted with quiet confidence, and beside her… a man no one i

  • Reborn Of The CEO’s Cold-Hearted Wife   Chapter 260: Lines Drawn in Quiet Places.

AUTHOR’S POV. Aurora stood at the doorway of Jaxon’s room for a moment before stepping fully into the room. The soft glow of the bedside lamp cast a warm light across the space, illuminating two small figures curled under the same blanket. Even though they had separate rooms, Elara had refused to sleep alone since Jaxon came home. Aurora had not argued. She couldn’t. Not when she understood exactly what it meant for both of them. Elara lay on her side, facing Jaxon, her hand loosely holding onto his sleeve as if she was afraid he might disappear if she let go. Jaxon, on the other hand, was half-turned toward her, his breathing steady, his face peaceful in a way Aurora had never seen before. For a second, Aurora just stood there, watching them, her chest tightening with something too big to name. Then she walked in quietly. “Alright,” she said softly, pulling the blanket up properly over them. “Time for bed.” Elara looked up first. “Mommy, we’re already in bed,” she said, h

  • Reborn Of The CEO’s Cold-Hearted Wife   Chapter 259: A Home, A War Waiting.

AUTHOR’S POV. Days later, the air in the hospital room felt lighter, calmer, almost like the storm had finally begun to settle. Jaxon sat upright on the bed, his legs swinging slightly as he looked around with curious, bright eyes that no longer carried that dull, lifeless weight they once held. The color had fully returned to his face, his breathing steady, his small fingers fidgeting with the edge of the blanket as though he was still trying to adjust to feeling… normal again. Aurora stood close to him, her arms folded tightly across her chest, but it wasn’t out of coldness. It was restraint. If she let herself, she would pull him into her arms and never let him go again. Dr. Halvorsen stood at the foot of the bed, flipping through Jaxon’s chart, his expression calm but clearly impressed. “Well,” he said, glancing up at Aurora, “I must say, this is one of the fastest recoveries I’ve seen from something this severe.” Aurora let out a quiet breath she didn’t even realize s

  • Reborn Of The CEO’s Cold-Hearted Wife   Chapter 258: What Was Stolen, What Was Found.

AUTHOR’S POV. A couple of hours later, the air inside Jaxon’s hospital room felt… different. It wasn’t the sterile quiet anymore, or the suffocating tension that had wrapped itself around every breath taken in that space over the past days. There was still silence, yes…but it wasn’t heavy. It wasn’t suffocating. It felt… hopeful. Aurora sat beside the bed, her fingers wrapped tightly around Jaxon’s small, fragile hand, as though letting go—even for a second—might undo everything they had fought so hard for. Her thumb brushed over his skin again and again in slow, careful motions, like she was grounding herself, like she needed to feel him there to believe this was real. Because it was real. The color was coming back. It was faint, barely noticeable if you weren’t looking closely, but Aurora noticed. Of course she did. She noticed the slight warmth returning to his cheeks, the subtle change in his breathing, the way his chest rose a little stronger than before. He was still unc

  • Reborn Of The CEO’s Cold-Hearted Wife   Chapter 257: The Rage of a Mother.

AUTHOR’S POV. Aurora didn’t hesitate the moment she stepped fully into the room, the door clicking softly behind her as the world outside seemed to fall away, leaving only the steady hum of machines and the fragile boy lying on the hospital bed, and for a second, she just stood there, staring at him, her chest rising and falling unevenly as the weight of everything settled deeper into her bones. That was her son, her child. Seven years. Seven years stolen. Her steps were slow at first, almost uncertain, like she was afraid that if she moved too fast, this would all disappear like a cruel illusion, but then something inside her snapped into place, something fierce and unyielding, and she closed the distance between them quickly, reaching for him. Her fingers wrapped around Jaxon’s small hand, her grip tightening instinctively, like she needed to feel him, to confirm he was real, and the moment her skin touched his, something broke inside her. She sank into the chair beside his

“Yes,” she said quietly. “Billy was the one who took me, Bobby.”And for the first time since she had stepped back into this house…since the lights, the voices, the questions, the pretending, the weight of what she had done settled fully into her chest. Not just where she had been, but what she ha

Bobby was quiet for a beat, it was the kind of silence that carried weight rather than emptiness. When he finally spoke again, his voice was lower, stripped of humor. “You’re playing a dangerous game, Aurora.”She let out a short, humorless breath. “Don’t you think I know that?” The words came out
