Chapter 2

Author: Space Journey
Neil picked up the syringe and pushed the needle into his vein, frowning.

Our classmates began to praise him for his kindness and selflessness, while Cherry's gaze was filled with worry.

I was the only one who noticed the scabbed needle marks on Neil's pale skin. They were marks left by long-term, improper injections. That was also an unmistakable proof that he was carrying the virus.

Neil started to feel dizzy, barely standing straight after having half a blood bag drawn.

Cherry hurriedly pulled the needle from his arms and hugged him, fussing over him with obvious concern.

Still, Neil insisted on standing up. With a righteous determination, he said, "No one stops me. I have to finish donating."

The moment he said that, he staggered a little.

As I watched Neil's clumsy performance, I figured out what he was up to.

As expected, one of the guys spoke up, "We can't let Neil donate that much blood alone! Cherry needs more, so let's all donate! It'll add up if everyone donates a little."

The others started chiming in at that.

"Yeah, let's just continue using the same syringe. We're not selfish, unlike someone here. We'll all take turns, so hurry up!"

"Exactly! If Neil isn't afraid, why should we be? This little bit of blood is nothing compared to our unity and friendship."

I almost laughed at their impassioned speeches.

They were such good classmates, to the point of being willing to share a syringe used by an HIV-positive patient. They were even willing to share the virus, too.

They could finally stick together for life and death in this lifetime.

The team doctor walked in and saw one of my classmates picking up a used syringe, about to stick it into his own veins. She immediately stopped him, barking, "Are you out of your mind? Stop this right now! If this many people used the same needle, who knows if cross-contamination might actually happen?"

Instead of being frightened, they frowned in irritation.

"What kind of a doctor are you? Are you trying to scare us all? We're all clean, so how could anyone get infected?"

"Mind your own business! If Cherry doesn't get her transfusion in time and it costs her the competition, can you take responsibility for that?"

"You're probably working with Samuel in trying to sabotage Cherry and make her miss the competition!"

The team doctor turned pale at my classmates' mocking words. She stomped her foot and ran out of the lounge, her eyes red.

After she left, the blood donation continued. One classmate after another started donating their blood.

I stood further from the crowd, watching that deadly syringe pierce different arms again and again, accompanied by their so-called camaraderie cheers.

Every draw was another fatal act of cross-contamination.

Before long, the blood bag was full.

Just then, Neil suddenly held the syringe out in front of me. "Your turn, Sam."

The accusation was like a spark thrown into dry gasoline. My classmates started demanding that I be held responsible. Some of them even picked up the used syringe and charged toward me, screaming, "Why are you fine? Why did you manage to get away with it? You did this on purpose! We'll drag you to hell with us!"Amidst the chaos, someone broke down and screamed, "You knew from the start, didn't you, Samuel? Why didn't you stop us? Why didn't you make it clear? You sick bastard! You just stood there and watched us suffer!"Fortunately, the police managed to bring the situation under control by pulling me behind them. After everyone was settled down, they were immediately transported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for HIV testing. While waiting for the results, everyone started praying and hoping that they'd be the lucky exception. But when the doctor finally stepped out, his grim expression answered everything.Except for me, no one was spared. They were all

"Chief? You're really not a fake?" Cherry's heart sank, her eyes widened in disbelief. The chief officer let out a long sigh. Then, she looked up, her gaze sharp, and said authoritatively, "Mr. Sawyer, we retested the trace blood samples left on the discarded syringe from that day. The result is HIV positive, clear and undeniable."We also have a complete chain of evidence, including your prior irregular treatment records with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You knew you were HIV-positive, yet you deliberately shared a syringe and exposed your classmates. What exactly were you trying to do?"All eyes in the room snapped toward Neil.It was as if all his strength had been drained from his body. He staggered backward and slammed into a desk. Neil's face went pale as his scheme had been completely exposed, yet he couldn't say anything.A piercing scream shattered the silence.A young woman who had taken part in the blood donation relay had finally grasped what it m

The room fell silent at my words. No one was able to retort.Cherry pointed at me and stammered for a while. Finally, she gritted her teeth and snapped, "Do you think we'd be scared of you? There aren't even surveillance cameras in this classroom. Who's going to know what we did?"At that, she stomped hard on my phone, crushing the screen beneath her heel. Not only was I not panicking, but I even had a cold smile on my face.A three-thousand-dollar phone was expensive for a reason. Even with the screen shattered like this, the call wouldn't drop as long as it hasn't completely powered off. That means every single word spoken had already gone straight through the line.Cherry grew even more furious watching me smile instead of getting upset. She stormed over, grabbed my wrist, and tried to drag me out of the classroom.Ms. Giles watched it all happen without doing anything, her gaze filled with open disgust toward me.After kicking me out, Cherry immediately rushed back in. She

The police officer's voice wasn't loud, but the news hit everyone like a bombshell. The classmates who were still eagerly daydreaming about getting commended earlier all froze. The classroom went completely silent. Everyone's faces immediately went pale."What did you say? H-HIV?""Who has HIV? Neil?""Oh no… I heard there's no cure for that!"Panic spread like wildfire, their anxious chatters completely drowning out Ms. Giles' slams on the desk, asking everyone to keep quiet. My classmates started shooting angry looks at Neil.Color drained from his face as panic flashed in his eyes while he scrambled for words.A moment later, Neil's face crumpled, and tears filled his eyes. His fingers dug into his palm so hard that his knuckles turned white. Choking back a sob, he cried, "How could I possibly have HIV when I've never even had a girlfriend?"Neil then turned his aggrieved gaze at me, his eyes brimming with anger. "I know you're upset because Cherry dumped you, Samuel. But

I heard the sounds of coughing everywhere as soon as I stepped into the classroom.Every single one of them had been infected."That's weird. Why does everyone seem to have caught a cold lately? I woke up with a headache this morning."At that, the other classmates started chiming in."Is it the weather or something? My nose won't stop running.""I feel weak all the time, too. Maybe it's some new kind of flu."Their faces were flushed red from all the coughing, yet they were still convinced it was nothing more than a minor cold.Upon seeing my arrival, Cherry stormed over, looking pale. She demanded haughtily, "You've had the whole week to reflect. Did you finally realize you were wrong and came to apologize?"I looked at her confident posture and calmly reached into my backpack. I pulled out a face mask and put it on.These idiots were already infected with HIV. I didn't want them to pass it on to me.Cherry gritted her teeth angrily at my reaction and slammed her fist onto

Our class was given a week-long break after the national competition ended. When I returned to campus after vacation, I realized my classmates seemed deliberately to be avoiding me. There was a trace of disdain when they looked at me.Whispers followed me around."That's him—Samuel Newberry from Senior Class A. Not only did he refuse to donate blood when his own girlfriend was anemic, but he even tried to stop others from donating. Fortunately, Cherry dumped him in time!""That's right. Everyone in his class donated blood except for him. How can someone be that selfish?""I could tell that he wasn't a good person just by looking at his face. He's the pretty-boy type. Who knows how wild he is outside of campus?""Cherry was right to dump a coward like him!"Their mocking comments reached my ears clearly. I forced myself to swallow my anger and tried to ignore them. However, several men walked straight up to me and shoved my shoulder. "So you're Samuel Newberry? Look at his prett
