Se connecter[Alaric's POV]
Ten minutes to midnight.
Cold mist clung to my skin, soaking into my dark shirt.
The twisted, ancient pines of the mountain forest blurred past me.
My wolf, Paul, pushed against my mind, his massive paws tearing up the damp earth as we sprinted. Two miles out from the Silver Moon Pack borders.
I reached for the leather pouch tied tight against my chest. My rough fingers brushed the cold glass of the small crystal vial inside.
Two pills rested at the bottom, pulsing with a faint, burning crimson light, like dying embers.
Phoenix Blood. The royal family's deepest secret.
"Who would've thought? The great Lycan King needing a breather."
Floating gracefully on a woven rug ten feet in the air was Cassie, the Head Witch. The Head Witch.
Her fiery red hair cut through the dreary gray fog, and her amber eyes looked down at me with pure disdain.
Yesterday, this crazy woman had stormed into my palace, demanding I take the Phoenix Blood to save my fated mate from being murdered at midnight. As a Lycan who could smell lies, I knew she spoke the truth.
"I wouldn't need a breather if this damn mountain wasn't an unnatural maze," I grunted, rolling my shoulders. "If you're in such a rush, drop that rug down and give me a ride, Witch Cassie."
She scoffed, wrinkling her nose. "Unless you plan on shedding two hundred pounds of pure muscle, keep running, dog. You have exactly nine minutes."
I ignored the insult and broke into a sprint again. The damp chill of the fog bit at my face, but my blood was boiling.
My mate.
For thirty years, I had waited. I watched other Alphas find their Lunas, watched my own kingdom thrive, yet my side remained empty.
Now, the Goddess finally gave her to me, and she was the daughter of Alpha Eric.
Eric. My closest friend.
A dark chuckle vibrated in my chest. The man never shut up about his precious daughter at the annual Alpha Summits. He was fiercely protective.
When he found out his twenty one-year-old girl was mated to a thirty-year-old Lycan King, our friendship was going to end with him pointing a silver-loaded shotgun at my head.
But I didn't care.
Suddenly, the wind changed direction.
A scent hit me. Bright, electrifying lemon mixed with wild roses.
“Mate.” Paul growled, his voice trembling with a desperate, feral hunger. “She's close. Alaric, hurry!”
I pushed my legs harder, a smirk touching my lips.
Then, the breeze shifted again.
The lemon scent was suddenly choked by something thick. Metallic. Sickeningly sweet.
Blood. Fresh, pouring blood. Mixed with the unmistakable, acrid stench of black wolfsbane.
My heart slammed against my ribs. No. Pure, blind rage erased every rational thought.
I burst through the tree line and hit the edge of a dark lake.
Fifty yards away, a male and a blonde female were walking away from a crumpled heap on the grass, laughing. The female was wiping fresh blood from her lips.
My mate's blood.
Paul lost his damn mind. I shifted mid-leap.
The sound of my massive, dark wolf hitting the ground made the male turn. His smug smile vanished into sheer terror.
I didn't give him the chance to scream. I lunged, my jaws clamping down on his throat, ripping his windpipe out in one sickening crunch..
I lunged, my jaws clamping down on his throat. Warm blood sprayed across my muzzle as I ripped his windpipe out in one brutal, sickening crunch. I tossed his lifeless body aside like a broken ragdoll.
The blonde female shrieked, stumbling backward.
I spun, slamming my massive paw into her chest, pinning her to the dirt. With one swift bite, I snapped her neck. Silence fell over the lake.
I shifted back to my human form, ignoring the blood coating my hands and chest. I fell to my knees beside the girl on the grass.
Moon Goddess. What did those rats do to her?
Her beautiful, golden-brown hair was soaked in dark mud.
Her wrists were pinned to the earth with silver daggers, the flesh melted black.
Another dagger protruded from her chest. Her heartbeat was a fading, pathetic flutter.
"Hold her still!" Cassie suddenly dropped beside me, her hands glowing with intense, white-hot magic. She ripped the three daggers from my mate's body. Black blood oozed from the wounds.
My hands shook as I poured one glowing crimson pill into my palm. Her lips were stained with blood, but they were soft.
I placed the hot pill between my own teeth, leaned down, and pressed my mouth firmly against hers, forcing the pill down her throat.
She tasted like heaven.
I pulled back and swallowed the second pill.
I cupped her cold cheek. "You are going to be fine," I rumbled, my voice thick with an emotion I had never known. "I will find you again, my mate."
A searing heat erupted in my veins. The Phoenix Blood ignited.
Cassie began chanting, her amber eyes glowing as a blinding red light erupted from our bodies, swallowing the darkness of the lake.
I pulled a heavy gold pocket watch from my pants. The glass cracked as the second hand began to tick backward. Then the minute hand blurred. The hour hand spun in wild, rapid circles.
My vision began to fade into a white void, but I kept my eyes locked on her face.
I am coming for you, I vowed silently as the world ripped apart. If I have to tear through time itself, I will return to the Silver Moon Pack. And I will protect my Luna Queen.
[Sylvia's POV]The grip on my bare waist turned iron-tight.His thick fingers dug into my skin so hard I knew he'd leave marks. Bruises I would gladly wear like a secret badge. The hard, heavy length of him twitched right against my lower back through the rough denim of his pants.A dark, ragged exhale scraped across the shell of my ear. The smell of rich dark chocolate turned bitter and heavy with raw lust. Then, the scorching heat vanished.Cold morning wind rushed over my skin.Alaric stepped back, putting a safe, torturous foot of distance between us.I heard him pull his phone from his pocket. His thumbs slammed against the glass screen so hard I thought it might shatter. He stepped around me and shoved the screen right into my line of sight.Focus. Control your heartbeat, or your scent will betray you.I glanced up from the bright screen. A thick blue vein pulsed violently at his temple. His chest heaved. He was fighting the mate pull with every ounce of his willpower.A sweet,
[Sylvia's POV]"Alaric, watch out!" I screamed.Carl's massive brown wolf launched through the air. His jaws snapped open, aiming straight for the back of Alaric's neck. His sharp claws gleamed in the morning sun, ready to tear flesh from bone.Alaric didn't even turn his head.He simply gave me a glance and a small smile then he shifted his weight. As the heavy wolf flew toward him, Alaric raised his heavy combat boot and delivered a lazy, perfectly timed sweeping kick to the beast's hind legs.Carl's wolf yelped. His terrifying momentum yanked him completely off balance. He crashed into the dirt, tumbling head over paws like a broken ragdoll. He rolled several times before slamming into the wooden fence surrounding the training field.A booming, furious roar shook the ground."Enough!"Alpha Eric stormed onto the field. His brown eyes blazed with absolute fury.Carl shifted back into his human form. He lay naked and shivering in the mud, holding his bruised ribs.Freya squealed, rus
[Sylvia's POV]The heavy, freezing pressure radiating from Alaric pushed all the air out of my lungs.Carl snatched his hand away from my bare waist as if he had been burned. He stumbled backward, his chest heaving. He tried to hide the sudden panic in his eyes, but I could smell his fear. It was a sour, acrid scent mixing with his cheap mint body wash.Alaric's deep blue eyes were locked entirely on Carl. Before anyone could blink, Alaric moved. He didn't go for Carl first. He turned toward Patrick. My twin brother had his fists raised, still pumped up with adrenaline. In a blur of motion too fast for my human eyes to track, Alaric swept his leg low. Patrick hit the dirt with a loud thud, completely bewildered.Alaric gestured loosely with his chin, a silent command for Patrick to sit out and rest.Patrick rubbed his lower back, his eyes wide with shock. He scrambled out of the training ring without a single word of complaint. Then, Alaric slowly turned his massive frame back to Carl
[Sylvia's POV]Morning sunlight stabbed through the gap in my curtains. I woke up with a heavy gasp, my skin burning.I looked down and saw the oversized black Henley shirt clinging to my body. Alaric's shirt. The deep scent of dark chocolate and the sharp ozone of a thunderstorm filled my lungs. Instantly, the memory of last night crashed into my mind.I remembered the heavy weight of his body pinning me down. I remembered his hot, rough palm pressing against my most sensitive flesh. The agonizing, slow circles. The way my body completely shattered in his arms.My face turned bright red in the empty room.I squeezed my thighs together, feeling a sudden, heavy rush of wetness pool between my legs just from the memory of my first climax. The mate pull was terrifying. It made me crave his touch again, right now.But I couldn't let my father find out.If Alpha Eric saw me wearing his best friend's shirt, he would ask questions I couldn't answer.I reluctantly pulled the shirt over my hea
[Sylvia's POV]I was completely at his mercy. My body, untouched and completely inexperienced, had no defense against the overwhelming power of the mate pull.He moved his hand in a slow, agonizing circle.A sharp gasp tore from my lips. My hips jerked up, chasing the friction, chasing the searing heat of his skin. His deep blue eyes darkened into the color of a stormy ocean. He watched my flushed face with a terrifying intensity, tracking every flutter of my eyelashes, every hitch of my breath. The dominant rumble in his chest deepened, vibrating right against my breasts. The tension coiled so tight my vision blurred.I was unraveling. The electric shocks originating from his hand spread like wildfire through my veins."Alaric," I whimpered, my voice breaking. He pressed his thumb down hard, right on that swollen, aching bundle of nerves.I shattered.A blinding wave of pure, white-hot pleasure crashed through my body. My back arched violently off his lap.My inner muscles clamped do
[Sylvia's POV]He slowly lifted his hand from my mouth. Before I could make a sound, he sat up slightly on his knees. In one fluid, aggressive motion, he grabbed the hem of his dark Henley shirt and pulled it over his head. The moonlight sliced through the shadows, highlighting his bare torso.Thick, hard slabs of chest muscle. A perfectly sculpted abdomen. A deep, rugged V-line that disappeared into the waistband of his dark tactical pants. He was built like a god of war, all raw power and terrifying strength. He didn't give me a single second to stare. He wrapped the large, warm shirt tightly around my naked, shivering body. The moment the fabric settled over my shoulders, my breath hitched. The shirt was soaked in his scorching body heat. But more than that, it was completely drenched in his scent. Dark chocolate. The violent, crackling ozone of a thunderstorm. The pure, intoxicating musk of a dominant Alpha male.It hit my heightened senses like a heavy, potent drug. The disgustin
[Sylvia's POV]His rough, calloused palms slid down my bare arms. His touch was like a lit match against my pale skin.Heat rushed between my legs.I gasped, my back arching off the ground. My nipples tightened against the rough fabric of his dark Henley shirt, aching for more friction.Alaric let
[Sylvia's POV]The scent of dark chocolate and crushing ozone was a physical force, dragging me forward. I wasn't Sylvia anymore. I was Rose. And the massive man standing in the grass was ours.I launched forward. My amber paws left the ground, and I slammed my heavy wolf body directly into his che
[Sylvia's POV]The red taillights of Carl's cheap sedan disappeared down the dark dirt road. I stood by my bedroom window, my palms pressed flat against the cool glass, my breath fogging the pane.Good riddance. My gaze dropped to the edge of the dense pine forest. Standing perfectly still in the d
[Carl's POV]"Don't be stupid," I cut her off harshly. "The Lycan King is the most powerful predator on the continent. He doesn't hide out in rural packs pretending to be a mute tutor. He resides in the Central Palace."My own logic started to calm my racing heart. It made sense. A King wouldn't be
