Chapter 2

Author: Sunny Sunny
As I recalled everything that had happened in my previous life, I couldn't help but clench my fists tightly. Nevertheless, I maintained a clueless expression.

"Why aren't you guys saying anything?" I asked. "You two are friends, right? I'm sure you won't be so petty as to get upset over something as small as this, yeah?"

Jimmy and Connor marched out of the room, slamming the door behind them.

I smirked and sat back down.

Was Jimmy the only one who knew how to act like a tactless, brutally honest guy? I could easily play the same game.

That weekend, I went to the campus convenience store with Jimmy. When I saw Regina Johnson, the campus belle, in her staff uniform, I realized what Jimmy was up to.

True enough, after spotting Regina, Jimmy started stumbling toward her. He acted as if he wasn't looking where he was going. However, she abruptly veered into another aisle.

Unable to stop in time, Jimmy collided headfirst into one of the display shelves, sending rows of condiment bottles crashing onto the floor. He'd created a huge mess, drawing the attention of everyone else in the convenience store.

Jimmy also realized he'd caused a spectacle. His eyes flashed with panic. Then, when he spotted me, he reenacted the same scene that I remembered from my previous life. He stuck his hand out toward me, as if I were his lifeline, and waved as hard as he could.

"Don't go, Alex!"

The passersby started eyeing me suspiciously, as if I'd been the one responsible for this.

In my previous life, as a result of Jimmy's reputation for being brutally honest, everyone believed him without much fuss. Even though I'd done my best to defend myself, I was forced to compensate the store with a month's worth of my allowance.

This time, just as I was about to show everyone the video I'd recorded earlier, Regina suddenly appeared. She looked at me in surprise and came over.

But instead of scolding me, she asked in a gentle voice filled with concern, "Are you hurt?"

Meeting her calm, kind eyes, I quickly made myself look flustered and moved. "Thanks for your concern. It's my fault for not seeing that—"

Before I could finish speaking, Jimmy latched onto the idea of being the one showered with Regina's concern. He hurriedly pushed me aside, snapping, "What are you talking about, Alex? I'm the one who crashed into the shelves by accident!"

He turned to Regina, his face red as he scratched his head sheepishly and said, "It's nice to meet you. My name is Jimmy Hudson. Thanks for checking on me. I'm not hurt. I'd love to get to know you better. Can I have your number?"

However, a staff member of the convenience store, whose badge made it clear he was the manager, appeared beside us. With a grim expression, he said, "Please come with me to discuss the appropriate compensation for the damages."

Jimmy froze, his smile stiffening as well.

That night, I returned to the dorm with a stack of exam passes for my classmates.

Jimmy marched up to me and questioned me heatedly, "Alex! What did Regina say to you when she followed you out? Where did you two go after that?"

Startled, I thought back to what happened earlier this afternoon. While the store manager held Alex back to demand compensation for the damages, I turned and walked right out of the store.

However, Regina came after me. "Hey, wait!"

After a pause, she said tactfully, "I think you need to watch out for that friend of yours. Also, can I… have your number?"

Stiffening ever so slightly, I thanked her for her warning before politely declining her request and leaving.

To be honest, it felt a little strange to me. Regina and I didn't even know each other. Even in my previous life, I'd only seen her from a distance a few times.

All I knew was that she was the campus belle who studied a different major. Everyone idolized her. She was completely unlike me, who was ostracized by everyone and wandered the hallways alone, always separate from the crowd.

I only remembered that she'd helped me with my luggage on my first day when Jimmy brought it up just before I died.

Snapping back to the present, I brushed Jimmy off with a wave of my hand. Then, with the bashful look of a guy who didn't have much experience with women, I said, "She didn't say much to me."

Jimmy's expression darkened. It was clear he didn't believe me. "You're refusing to tell me?"

"Why would I do that?" I scratched my head and parroted his usual explanation to him. "You know me, man. I'm just your average socially clueless guy. How should I know what the ladies think?"

Jimmy rolled his eyes before snapping, "Fine! Let's drop it. By the way, I got you an iced caramel latte. Drink up."

One look was all I needed to know that he was up to no good again. Still, I pretended to be delighted. "You serious? Thanks, Jimmy."

As he watched intently, I stuck the straw into the cup.

Jimmy looked even more panicked than I did. He frantically denied having done anything. But the moment I played the security footage, his voice died in his throat.Everything he'd done had been recorded clearly, including the way he'd previously gone berserk in the dorm and how he'd slipped sleeping pills into my mug when no one was around. Of course, there was also proof of how he'd put crushed cherry pits into my mug today to poison me.Chaos erupted. Everyone was absolutely thunderstruck by his actions."What the hell, Jimmy? He's your roommate! How could you be this evil?""You're a monster! This is terrifying."As the crowd condemned him with looks of scorn and contempt, Jimmy became so overwhelmed with panic that he couldn't even speak.Eventually, he finally regained his voice and screamed shakily, "Fine! I did it! I admit to what I've done. But are you all blind? Can't you see just how much of a snake he is? He's been pretending to be socially clueless this whole time! He

When I got back to the dorm room, Jimmy was having a fit. He was screaming his head off and thrashing the room like a madman.Upon seeing me, he roared in absolute rage, "You stole the image I wanted to create myself, and you even stole my woman, Alex! Just you wait. I'm going to expose your true colors and ruin your life!"Since no one else was in the room, I didn't feign ignorance this time. I simply smirked at him, which made him go ballistic. He launched into a frenzy and started shouting his head off again. From that point onward, Jimmy and I were openly hostile toward each other. He also went all-out trying to woo Regina.I heard he staged all sorts of coincidental encounters around campus, intercepted her multiple times, and made dramatics of confessing his feelings to her. But each time, all he got in return was a cool, indifferent response. "Sorry. I like someone else. Please stop bothering me."After a while, Jimmy switched tactics. He deliberately acted like a clueles

I confronted Jimmy in anger, but he gave me a nonchalant pat on the shoulder and said, "Oh, come on. It was just a joke. Why are you making such a big deal over it? Unless… Could it be that I was right about it?"He even shot me a suggestive wink. This time, I didn't put up with it any longer. I sent a screenshot of his messages to the group chat and addressed the situation right in front of everyone."This counts as defamation, Jimmy."Jimmy brazenly shot back, "Who said I was defaming you? I heard you on the phone myself! Can you swear that you didn't say those words?"Scoffing, I gave the same response he did in my previous life. "How can you slander me like that? I was talking to my boxing buddy. I said we were going to practice our hooks—that's a boxing term! Maybe I misspoke, but that doesn't mean you can make things up about me."Everyone else in the group chat stayed silent for a while, until someone finally sent a message.I was shocked to see that it was Regina."I'm

I laughed to myself and remained unbothered by Jimmy, Connor, and Eric.Suddenly, while brushing past me, Jimmy exclaimed in feigned shock, "Shoot! I accidentally used Alex's debit card to pay for the food!"I turned and eyed Jimmy coldly for a few seconds. He stared right back at me, his gaze hostile. Then, I calmly opened my drawer and asked, "Are you sure? But my debit card is right here?"Jimmy's eyes widened as he stared at the card in his hand. It was in a cardholder that looked identical to mine."Oh!" I exclaimed, as if a thought just came to me. "That card you have with you… I think it's the shared debit card we use for our joint bills and expenses. I got an extra cardholder, so I slipped the shared debit card inside the spare."Jimmy's expression stiffened, while the looks on Eric and Connor's faces darkened dramatically."Jimmy, does this mean you used our money to treat everyone to dinner?"Jimmy opened his mouth, but nothing came out."But…" I piped up with a look

My eyes widened, and I immediately shouted, "Not that one! Don't open it!"But it was too late. Jimmy had eagerly clicked on one of the files inside the folder, but he continued to feign innocence. "Oh. Sorry about that. My hand slipped."A few seconds later, however, he was stupefied to see what had appeared on the screen. It was a video—the security footage from the night he'd deliberately tried to ruin the exam passes. The video clearly showed how he'd dropped the cup and spilled the iced caramel latte before twisting things around to say it was my doing. All the color drained from Jimmy's face. He scrambled to close the video, but the damage was done. The lecture hall broke into an uproar. He received looks from everyone, their gazes shifting from surprise and shock to downright disdain."To think that he sounded so righteous and indignant when he tried to twist things around.""He was the one who dropped the cup. Why did he accuse Alex of doing it in the group chat the ot

"What did you say?"Jimmy's face seemed to flash through all the shades of the rainbow, going from red to white to purple. Looking completely panicked, he cursed out loud before storming out of the dorm.I figured he was probably in a rush to try to fix the mess. After all, he was the only one who couldn't sit for the exam tomorrow.Everyone else in the group chat was relieved to hear about this, and their anger subsided.Alas, Jimmy didn't get quite so lucky. Despite his best efforts throughout the night, he wasn't able to get a replacement for his ruined exam pass in time. Just like that, he couldn't participate in the exam. It was a nationwide professional certification exam held annually. His only option was to take it next year.I deliberately approached him and let out another sigh. "It's my fault for being too careless, Jimmy. I hope you don't take it to heart."Jimmy was livid, his expression stormy. He had to clench his jaw to stop himself from spewing out a litany of
