Chapter 1

"Whoa! You alright, Alex?"

When I heard that familiar tone—and Jimmy Hudson's look of feigned concern appeared before my eyes—I suddenly realized I had been reborn. I'd gone back to the very first day of my freshman year in college.

In my previous life, this was the day Jimmy had "accidentally" spilled scalding coffee on me. He proceeded to "kindly" help me check my phone, only to "inadvertently" send one of my intimate photos to the class group chat.

Then, instead of pressing "Delete for everyone", he pressed "Delete for me". So, I couldn't remove the message from the chat.

As a result, on the very first day of the semester, I became the laughingstock in class.

Jolting upright, I reached for the phone on the desk—but Jimmy was quicker. He grabbed it and unlocked it in one smooth motion. "I'll help you check to see if there's any damage!"

The next second, he yelped in alarm and looked at me with a wide-eyed expression. "Oh, shoot! I think I accidentally sent one of your photos!"

I snatched the phone back from him in a frenzy.

The situation in the group chat was the same as it'd been in my previous life. He'd deleted the photo on this end, which meant the photo couldn't even be removed from the group chat anymore.

"Huh?"

"Is this some kind of special surprise for the first day of college?"

"Who sends an intimate photo of himself out of nowhere?"

"Hey, man. Are you just trolling or are you seriously trying to show off your muscles?"

"I've got a tip for you. You can delete messages on WhatsApp, you know."

"I guess there really are freaks like him."

I froze in place, watching as the mocking messages appeared one after the other in the class group chat, before weakly slumping back into my chair.

Jimmy's eyes flashed with smug delight, but he acted like the typical straightshooter who didn't know much about social cues. "So sorry about that, man. I was too careless. I didn't even realize I'd send the photo…"

Connor Lewis, one of our other roommates, stuck his head out from his bunk bed and glanced at us. "I'm sure Alex won't be so petty and make a big deal out of something this small, right?"

Jimmy chimed in breezily, "Exactly. You won't hold this against me, right, Alex?"

I looked at the two of them, who were echoing each other, and abruptly chuckled. "That's great to hear!"

Both of them eyed me in confusion. "What do you mean?"

I simply raised the phone and looked at them with an unbothered expression as I calmly replied, "Well, this is Connor's phone. I was worried you two might end up fighting over this."

As it was, this time around, the phone I'd reached for was the phone Connor was charging on the desk. It was the same model as mine.

Therefore, the intimate photo that Jimmy hastily uploaded and deleted belonged to Connor!

Jimmy and Connor both turned pale, their eyes widening in shock. Cursing loudly, Connor jumped off his bed.

Meanwhile, I turned to Jimmy with a clueless yet frank expression of my own, asking, "What's with you two? I guess it's my fault for being a little slow on the uptake. I can't even figure out what's going on."

Jimmy was so furious that he almost popped a vein, while Connor stood to the side with a scowl.

In my previous life, our classmates started calling me a deluded showoff who thought too highly of himself. They even started rumors about my so-called messy private life.

Apart from Jimmy's "unintentional" setups, all that happened in no small part thanks to Connor deliberately fanning the flames.

He would approach me in private to "tease" me with the "dumb comments" that Jimmy made, which were so blatantly riddled with inconsistencies. Then, he would record my anxious rebuttal and maliciously edit my response before spreading the videos around.

That cemented my reputation for getting triggered by the truth and reacting aggressively to it.

Connor was also the one who took a screenshot of Jimmy's "hookup" comment and added a suggestive emoticon before posting it on the college forum. He even captioned it with, "As expected of a ladies' man. Much respect, bro."

That resulted in the entire campus sending a barrage of insults and criticisms my way.

Even after I drank the water that Jimmy had added crushed cherry pits to and was poisoned to death, Connor helped my murderer out. He spread the story that I'd taken my own life after having an emotional breakdown over missing the exam.

Jimmy looked even more panicked than I did. He frantically denied having done anything. But the moment I played the security footage, his voice died in his throat.Everything he'd done had been recorded clearly, including the way he'd previously gone berserk in the dorm and how he'd slipped sleeping pills into my mug when no one was around. Of course, there was also proof of how he'd put crushed cherry pits into my mug today to poison me.Chaos erupted. Everyone was absolutely thunderstruck by his actions."What the hell, Jimmy? He's your roommate! How could you be this evil?""You're a monster! This is terrifying."As the crowd condemned him with looks of scorn and contempt, Jimmy became so overwhelmed with panic that he couldn't even speak.Eventually, he finally regained his voice and screamed shakily, "Fine! I did it! I admit to what I've done. But are you all blind? Can't you see just how much of a snake he is? He's been pretending to be socially clueless this whole time! He

When I got back to the dorm room, Jimmy was having a fit. He was screaming his head off and thrashing the room like a madman.Upon seeing me, he roared in absolute rage, "You stole the image I wanted to create myself, and you even stole my woman, Alex! Just you wait. I'm going to expose your true colors and ruin your life!"Since no one else was in the room, I didn't feign ignorance this time. I simply smirked at him, which made him go ballistic. He launched into a frenzy and started shouting his head off again. From that point onward, Jimmy and I were openly hostile toward each other. He also went all-out trying to woo Regina.I heard he staged all sorts of coincidental encounters around campus, intercepted her multiple times, and made dramatics of confessing his feelings to her. But each time, all he got in return was a cool, indifferent response. "Sorry. I like someone else. Please stop bothering me."After a while, Jimmy switched tactics. He deliberately acted like a clueles

I confronted Jimmy in anger, but he gave me a nonchalant pat on the shoulder and said, "Oh, come on. It was just a joke. Why are you making such a big deal over it? Unless… Could it be that I was right about it?"He even shot me a suggestive wink. This time, I didn't put up with it any longer. I sent a screenshot of his messages to the group chat and addressed the situation right in front of everyone."This counts as defamation, Jimmy."Jimmy brazenly shot back, "Who said I was defaming you? I heard you on the phone myself! Can you swear that you didn't say those words?"Scoffing, I gave the same response he did in my previous life. "How can you slander me like that? I was talking to my boxing buddy. I said we were going to practice our hooks—that's a boxing term! Maybe I misspoke, but that doesn't mean you can make things up about me."Everyone else in the group chat stayed silent for a while, until someone finally sent a message.I was shocked to see that it was Regina."I'm

I laughed to myself and remained unbothered by Jimmy, Connor, and Eric.Suddenly, while brushing past me, Jimmy exclaimed in feigned shock, "Shoot! I accidentally used Alex's debit card to pay for the food!"I turned and eyed Jimmy coldly for a few seconds. He stared right back at me, his gaze hostile. Then, I calmly opened my drawer and asked, "Are you sure? But my debit card is right here?"Jimmy's eyes widened as he stared at the card in his hand. It was in a cardholder that looked identical to mine."Oh!" I exclaimed, as if a thought just came to me. "That card you have with you… I think it's the shared debit card we use for our joint bills and expenses. I got an extra cardholder, so I slipped the shared debit card inside the spare."Jimmy's expression stiffened, while the looks on Eric and Connor's faces darkened dramatically."Jimmy, does this mean you used our money to treat everyone to dinner?"Jimmy opened his mouth, but nothing came out."But…" I piped up with a look

My eyes widened, and I immediately shouted, "Not that one! Don't open it!"But it was too late. Jimmy had eagerly clicked on one of the files inside the folder, but he continued to feign innocence. "Oh. Sorry about that. My hand slipped."A few seconds later, however, he was stupefied to see what had appeared on the screen. It was a video—the security footage from the night he'd deliberately tried to ruin the exam passes. The video clearly showed how he'd dropped the cup and spilled the iced caramel latte before twisting things around to say it was my doing. All the color drained from Jimmy's face. He scrambled to close the video, but the damage was done. The lecture hall broke into an uproar. He received looks from everyone, their gazes shifting from surprise and shock to downright disdain."To think that he sounded so righteous and indignant when he tried to twist things around.""He was the one who dropped the cup. Why did he accuse Alex of doing it in the group chat the ot

"What did you say?"Jimmy's face seemed to flash through all the shades of the rainbow, going from red to white to purple. Looking completely panicked, he cursed out loud before storming out of the dorm.I figured he was probably in a rush to try to fix the mess. After all, he was the only one who couldn't sit for the exam tomorrow.Everyone else in the group chat was relieved to hear about this, and their anger subsided.Alas, Jimmy didn't get quite so lucky. Despite his best efforts throughout the night, he wasn't able to get a replacement for his ruined exam pass in time. Just like that, he couldn't participate in the exam. It was a nationwide professional certification exam held annually. His only option was to take it next year.I deliberately approached him and let out another sigh. "It's my fault for being too careless, Jimmy. I hope you don't take it to heart."Jimmy was livid, his expression stormy. He had to clench his jaw to stop himself from spewing out a litany of
