“Morning,” Stephen said casually when he noticed her. “You're finally awake.”

Lucy stared at him.

He turned back to his breakfast.

“You were sleeping so deeply that I didn't want to disturb you. I had to prepare something for myself before leaving.”

She struggled to find her voice. “You made breakfast?”

Stephen glanced at her. “Is that so surprising?”

“No. I just...” She stopped herself. “I didn't expect it.”

He gave a small laugh. “Don't worry. I haven't suddenly become a chef. I have an important meeting today, and I can't afford to be late.”

Lucy looked at him carefully. An important meeting. “What meeting?” she asked.

“Investors.” He picked up his cup. “Some people are interested in putting money into my company, Blackroom Productions. If everything goes well, we could finally expand into bigger productions.”

Blackroom Productions.

The name of the movie production company he had struggled to establish when they were younger.Lucy remembered those years clearly. Back then, Stephen had little money and even fewer connections. She had supported him however she could, sometimes sacrificing her own needs to help him keep his business running.

She had believed they were building their future together. But after his company became successful, Stephen had slowly changed. His late nights became more frequent, his conversations with her shorter, and his patience almost nonexistent.

She had spent months wondering what she had done wrong.

Now she knows. “That's good news,” she said carefully. “I hope the meeting goes well.”

Stephen nodded, already checking his phone. Lucy watched him for another moment. “Stephen, can I ask you something?”

“Go ahead.”

“Do you still enjoy spending time with Bryan?”

He looked up. “What kind of question is that?”

“Just answer me.”

Stephen frowned slightly. “Of course he's my son.”

“That's not what I asked.” Lucy kept her voice calm. “Do you enjoy being with him? Spending time with him? Taking him out? Being involved in his life?”

Stephen placed his cup on the counter. “Lucy, I'm working hard to provide for this family. You should understand that instead of asking unnecessary questions.”

She swallowed. “So you think providing money is enough?”

“What else do you expect from me? I pay the bills. I take care of the house. I make sure you and Bryan have everything you need.”

Lucy lowered her eyes. Everything they needed. She remembered begging him to turn back for Bryan while zombies chased them through the streets. She remembered the look on his face when he chose to leave.

She wondered how a man could stand before his family in the morning and later abandon them without hesitation. “Stephen,” she tried again, “if something happened to us, would you do everything possible to protect us?”

He stared at her. “What is wrong with you this morning?”

“I'm asking a simple question.”

“And I'm telling you that I work hard for this family. What more do you want me to say?”

Lucy studied his face, searching for the slightest sign of the man she had loved. She found impatience. Nothing more. Perhaps she should have been surprised. Perhaps she should have been heartbroken all over again but something inside her had changed. She had already seen what he was capable of doing when his own survival was at stake. She would never forget it.

“Never mind,” she said quietly.

Stephen returned to his phone. Lucy turned toward the living room, where Bryan was sitting on the sofa. He looked up and smiled at her, completely unaware of the thoughts racing through his mother's mind.

She smiled back, though her heart ached.

Six months. She had six months to prepare for the end of the world. Six months to protect her son and make sure they would never again depend on a man who could abandon them.

But first, she needed to understand how much of their money she could access and what resources she could gather without raising suspicion.

“Stephen,” she called as he picked up his car keys. “I need some money for Bryan.”

He stopped near the doorway and turned around.

“Money for what?”

“His school expenses. I also want to buy him some things he needs.”

“Didn't I give you money recently?”

“That was for the household expenses. Bryan needs a few things, and I don't have enough left.”

Stephen's expression hardened.

“Lucy, why are you always disturbing me for money?”

She stared at him, stunned by the sudden change in his voice.

“I'm asking for money for your son.”

“And I'm telling you that you should learn to manage what you have. You are becoming too materialistic.”

The word hung between them.

Materialistic.

Lucy almost laughed. She had stood beside him when he could barely afford to pay his workers. She had sacrificed her comfort to help him build Blackroom Production, never asking for expensive gifts or a luxurious lifestyle.

Now he was accusing her of being materialistic for asking him to provide for their child.

“Stephen, I haven't asked you for anything unreasonable,” she said quietly.

“I'm not discussing this again.” He opened the door. “I have a meeting to attend.”

“Stephen—”

He walked out and slammed the door behind him. Lucy stood motionless, staring at the closed door.

Then she looked toward Bryan. Her son was watching her, his small face filled with questions he was too afraid to ask. Lucy walked over and sat beside him, drawing him into her arms.

“Don't worry, baby,” she whispered. “Everything will be different this time.”

She pressed a kiss against his hair and stared toward the door through which Stephen had disappeared. The man who had abandoned them was still living his comfortable life, completely unaware of what awaited him. Lucy had returned six months before the Zombie breakout, but she had not returned to be the same helpless woman.

This time, she would prepare. This time, she would protect Bryan and when the world finally fell apart, Stephen Anderson would discover exactly what it meant to lose the woman he had once considered worthless.

“Isabella, there's something I need you to tell me. Do you really not remember anything about us?” Justin asked, watching her face. Lucy opened her mouth, but before she could answer, someone knocked.“Doctor Justin?” a woman's excited voice called from outside. “Please, is she awake? Can I come in? I've been waiting for this moment for months!”Justin turned toward the door, surprised by the interruption. “Come in, Rose. She's awake, but she's still weak. Please, don't overwhelm her with too many questions.”The door opened, and a young woman hurried inside carrying a handbag. Her eyes immediately landed on Isabella, and she stopped walking. “Oh, my goodness! Boss Isabella!”“Rose?” Justin said, recognising the personal assistant who had spent months visiting the hospital. “You can come closer, but remember what I just told you. She's still recovering.”Rose barely seemed to hear him. She hurried toward the bed, tears already gathering in her eyes. “Boss Isabella! You're awake! You'r

  • Reborn To Rule The Zombie Apocalypse   I Have An Assistant?

Lucy nodded slowly, committing the information to memory. She had no idea what Isabella's mother looked like or how close they were. One day, that woman would stand before her.“What about my colleagues?” Lucy asked. “You mentioned people from work. Have they been asking about me? Did anyone come to see me?”“Many people did,” Rose answered. “Your co-stars, directors, producers, and friends from the industry. Some sent flowers, while others kept calling to ask about your condition.”“Did I have any enemies?” Lucy asked before she could stop herself. She quickly corrected her expression. “I mean, were there people I didn't get along with?”Rose chuckled. “Boss Isabella, you're an actress. Of course, not everybody likes you. But you had your fair share of admirers, and most people respected your talent and professionalism.”Justin watched Lucy quietly. “That's enough information for today. She needs time to process everything, and I don't want her feeling pressured to remember people sh

  • Reborn To Rule The Zombie Apocalypse   Understanding Her

“They won't assume that,” Justin assured her. “I'm responsible for overseeing your treatment, and I'll explain what's happening to the medical team. We'll arrange the necessary tests and check whether there are any other problems.”Lucy lowered her head. The lie was becoming easier because Justin was giving her the words she needed. To everyone here, Isabella Hartley had awakened with amnesia. That would be her story.A nurse entered carrying a tray and smiled when she saw Isabella sitting upright. “You're awake properly now! That's wonderful news. How are you feeling? Are you comfortable?”“She's frightened and confused,” Justin answered before Lucy could speak. “She doesn't remember anything. Could you please bring her some water? I'll arrange for the medical team to assist with her assessment.”The nurse's smile faded into concern. “Of course. Don't worry, Isabella. You've been comatose for a long time. You don't have to remember everything today. Just take things slowly.”“Thank y

  • Reborn To Rule The Zombie Apocalypse   The Woman Everyone Thinks I Am

“Oh, God… What am I doing in Isabella Hartley's body?” Lucy whispered, gripping the dressing table. Justin stepped closer, his worried eyes moving between her reflection and her trembling face.“Isabella, sweetheart, talk to me. What did you mean just now?” he asked gently. “Why are you saying you're in somebody else's body? You're frightening me. Please, look at me.”Lucy turned sharply. She had said too much. One careless sentence could destroy the little control she had over this impossible situation. Justin knew Isabella, loved her, and would notice anything unusual.“I don't know,” she replied, forcing her breathing to slow. “I'm scared. Everything feels strange, and I can't understand what's happening to me. I don't remember how I got here.”Justin approached and carefully touched her shoulder. “You're safe. You're in the hospital, and I'm here with you. You have been unconscious for months, Isabella. Waking up must feel overwhelming.”“Months?” Lucy repeated, allowing genuine s

  • Reborn To Rule The Zombie Apocalypse   I Am Now An Actress?

Present DayLucy heard the front door open just as she finished arranging the plates on the dining table. She wiped her hands on a kitchen towel and hurried toward the entrance. “Stephen, you're back,” she said, offering him a tired smile. “How was work today?”Stephen stepped inside, loosening his tie as he walked past her. “Long. Very long.”“Did your meeting with the investors go well?” She asked.“It was fine.”Lucy followed him into the living room. “That's good. I was hoping you would tell me more about it. You said they were interested in funding your next production.” Stephen dropped his briefcase beside the sofa. “Lucy, can I sit down first? I've barely had a moment to breathe since morning.”“Of course. I'm sorry.”She stepped aside, watching him settle onto the sofa and reach for his phone. For a moment, she considered leaving him alone, but something inside her refused to let the question go. “Stephen, there's something I wanted to ask you.”He kept his eyes on his screen.

  • Reborn To Rule The Zombie Apocalypse   You Stole Him

The news interrupted the business report playing on Stephen Anderson's office television. He barely looked up until the anchor mentioned a familiar name, making him freeze in disbelief.“Breaking news. Popular actress Isabella Hartley has reportedly been involved in a serious accident while returning from a movie shoot. Sources confirm she is currently in a coma.”Stephen stared at the screen, his whiskey glass halfway to his mouth. Isabella's photograph appeared beneath the headline, showing her smiling at a recent film premiere. “No,” he muttered. The anchor continued speaking, but Stephen barely heard anything. His fingers tightened around the glass until it slipped from his hand, shattering against the office floor. “Damn it!”He sprang to his feet, knocking his chair backward. “How could this happen to her?” His assistant hurried inside, startled by the sudden noise coming from his office.“Sir? Are you all right?” the assistant asked. Stephen pointed at the television. “Do I loo
