LOGIN“Isabella, there's something I need you to tell me. Do you really not remember anything about us?” Justin asked, watching her face. Lucy opened her mouth, but before she could answer, someone knocked.
“Doctor Justin?” a woman's excited voice called from outside. “Please, is she awake? Can I come in? I've been waiting for this moment for months!”
Justin turned toward the door, surprised by the interruption. “Come in, Rose. She's awake, but she's still weak. Please, don't overwhelm her with too many questions.”
The door opened, and a young woman hurried inside carrying a handbag. Her eyes immediately landed on Isabella, and she stopped walking. “Oh, my goodness! Boss Isabella!”
“Rose?” Justin said, recognising the personal assistant who had spent months visiting the hospital. “You can come closer, but remember what I just told you. She's still recovering.”
Rose barely seemed to hear him. She hurried toward the bed, tears already gathering in her eyes. “Boss Isabella! You're awake! You're really awake! Oh, my goodness, I can't believe this!”
Lucy stared at the stranger, unsure how to respond. The woman reached for her hands and squeezed them warmly. “Look at you! You're finally opening those beautiful eyes again.”
“Rose, please,” Justin warned gently. “Give her a moment. She has been awake for only a short while, and she's experiencing memory difficulties.”
Rose immediately loosened her grip. “I'm sorry, Boss Isabella. I'm just so happy. Do you know how long we've waited? I practically lived in this hospital during your first month.”
Lucy looked at Justin, silently asking for an explanation. He understood and nodded toward the woman. “Isabella, this is Rose. She's your personal assistant. She's worked with you for several years.”
“My personal assistant?” Lucy repeated, deliberately allowing confusion into her voice. “I'm sorry. I don't remember her.” She lowered her eyes, hoping the woman wouldn't take her reaction personally.
Rose's smile slowly disappeared. “You don't remember me?” she asked, looking at Justin. “What do you mean? Is something wrong? Did the accident affect her memory?”
“She's experiencing memory loss,” Justin explained. “She doesn't remember her life or even our relationship. I've already spoken with her about it, and we're arranging further examinations.”
“Oh, Boss Isabella,” Rose whispered, pulling a chair closer. “Don't worry about remembering me. I'm just grateful you're awake. We can start again if that's what you need.”
“I'm sorry,” Lucy said softly. “I know you must be important to me, but everything is confusing. I can't remember anything about my life before waking up here.”
Rose's eyes filled again. “You don't have to apologise. Do you hear me? Nobody expects you to remember everything immediately. You've been through so much, and we're going to help you.”
Justin placed a reassuring hand on Rose's shoulder. “That's exactly what I've been telling her. She needs rest, patience, and time. Please, don't overwhelm her with information all at once.”
“I understand,” Rose replied, wiping her cheeks. “But there are so many people who will want to know she's awake. Her family, friends, colleagues, and everyone from the production company.”
Lucy looked up immediately. “Production company?” she asked. “What do I do? I mean, what kind of work do I have?” She hoped the question sounded like genuine confusion.
Rose blinked. “Boss Isabella, you're an actress. You're one of the biggest actresses in the United States. Surely you remember being on television or seeing your face on billboards?”
Lucy shook her head. “I'm sorry. I don't remember any of that. Are you saying I'm famous?” She allowed a faint, uncertain smile. “That sounds rather unbelievable.”
Rose laughed through her tears. “You are famous, Boss Isabella! People recognise you everywhere. You've starred in several successful films, won awards, attended international events, and worked with some of the biggest names.”
“Really?” Lucy asked, pretending to be surprised. “What kind of films have I appeared in? Was I working on something before the accident? I wish I could remember.”
“You were preparing for another major production,” Rose explained. “The director had already contacted your management team. There were also endorsement discussions, interviews, and several invitations waiting for your confirmation.”
Justin interrupted gently. “Rose, perhaps we should save the professional details for another time. She has only just regained consciousness, and remembering her career isn't our priority today.”
“Of course,” Rose agreed. “I'm sorry. I just thought talking about familiar things might help her remember something. We used to discuss work almost every day.”
“Did we?” Lucy asked, looking directly at her. “What was I like before the accident? Was I difficult to work with? Did I have many friends?”
Rose smiled. “You were demanding about your work, but you were never unkind. You could be stubborn when you wanted something done properly, and you hated being late.”
“Was I always busy?” Lucy continued. “Did I have many people around me? I mean, people I spent time with outside work?” She needed to understand Isabella's relationships.
“You were busy, yes,” Rose answered. “But you always made time for the people you loved. Justin was usually the first person you called whenever you finished filming.”
Lucy glanced at Justin. He looked down briefly, and a small smile appeared on his face. Rose noticed and laughed. “See? Even now, he can't hide how happy he is.”
Justin shook his head. “Rose, don't start teasing me. She's only just woken up.” He turned toward Lucy. “We were together, and I spent most of my free time with you.”
“Did you visit me every day?” Lucy asked, keeping her voice gentle. She already knew Justin had waited for Isabella, but she needed to understand how much Rose knew.
“Almost,” Rose answered before Justin could speak. “He barely left this hospital during the first few weeks. Even when work demanded his attention, he returned whenever he could.”
Justin gave her a warning look. “That's enough, Rose. You're making it sound as though I abandoned every other responsibility.” He turned back to Lucy. “I simply wanted to be here.”
Rose smiled knowingly. “You can deny it all you want, Doctor. Everyone knows how much you love her. You were the one who kept telling us she would wake up.”
Lucy lowered her eyes. She was beginning to understand that Justin's feelings were much deeper than she had initially assumed. Pretending not to remember him would not be easy.
“Did my family visit?” she asked, changing the subject. “I mean, my parents and other relatives. Have they been coming here too? I can't remember any of them.”
Rose nodded. “Your mother visited regularly. Your father came several times, although he travelled frequently. Your aunt also came, and some cousins visited when they could.”
“My mother?” Lucy repeated. A new worry settled inside her. “What's her name? I'm sorry, Rose. I know this must sound strange, but I really don't remember.”
“Her name is Mrs. Hartley,” Rose replied gently. “She's been worried sick about you. Your mother cried every time she came here, especially when the doctors couldn't tell her when you'd wake up.”
“Isabella, there's something I need you to tell me. Do you really not remember anything about us?” Justin asked, watching her face. Lucy opened her mouth, but before she could answer, someone knocked.“Doctor Justin?” a woman's excited voice called from outside. “Please, is she awake? Can I come in? Lucy nodded slowly, committing the information to memory. She had no idea what Isabella's mother looked like or how close they were. One day, that woman would stand before her.“What about my colleagues?” Lucy asked. “You mentioned people from work. Have they been asking about me? Did anyone come to see me?”“Many people did,” Rose answered. “Your co-stars, directors, producers, and friends from the industry. Some sent flowers, while others kept calling to ask about your condition.”“Did I have any enemies?” Lucy asked before she could stop herself. She quickly corrected her expression. “I mean, were there people I didn't get along with?”Rose chuckled. “Boss Isabella, you're an actress. Of course, not everybody likes you. But you had your fair share of admirers, and most people respected your talent and professionalism.”Justin watched Lucy quietly. “That's enough information for today. She needs time to process everything, and I don't want her feeling pressured to remember people sh
“They won't assume that,” Justin assured her. “I'm responsible for overseeing your treatment, and I'll explain what's happening to the medical team. We'll arrange the necessary tests and check whether there are any other problems.”Lucy lowered her head. The lie was becoming easier because Justin was giving her the words she needed. To everyone here, Isabella Hartley had awakened with amnesia. That would be her story.A nurse entered carrying a tray and smiled when she saw Isabella sitting upright. “You're awake properly now! That's wonderful news. How are you feeling? Are you comfortable?”“She's frightened and confused,” Justin answered before Lucy could speak. “She doesn't remember anything. Could you please bring her some water? I'll arrange for the medical team to assist with her assessment.”The nurse's smile faded into concern. “Of course. Don't worry, Isabella. You've been comatose for a long time. You don't have to remember everything today. Just take things slowly.”“Thank y
“Oh, God… What am I doing in Isabella Hartley's body?” Lucy whispered, gripping the dressing table. Justin stepped closer, his worried eyes moving between her reflection and her trembling face.“Isabella, sweetheart, talk to me. What did you mean just now?” he asked gently. “Why are you saying you're in somebody else's body? You're frightening me. Please, look at me.”Lucy turned sharply. She had said too much. One careless sentence could destroy the little control she had over this impossible situation. Justin knew Isabella, loved her, and would notice anything unusual.“I don't know,” she replied, forcing her breathing to slow. “I'm scared. Everything feels strange, and I can't understand what's happening to me. I don't remember how I got here.”Justin approached and carefully touched her shoulder. “You're safe. You're in the hospital, and I'm here with you. You have been unconscious for months, Isabella. Waking up must feel overwhelming.”“Months?” Lucy repeated, allowing genuine s
Present DayLucy heard the front door open just as she finished arranging the plates on the dining table. She wiped her hands on a kitchen towel and hurried toward the entrance. “Stephen, you're back,” she said, offering him a tired smile. “How was work today?”Stephen stepped inside, loosening his tie as he walked past her. “Long. Very long.”“Did your meeting with the investors go well?” She asked.“It was fine.”Lucy followed him into the living room. “That's good. I was hoping you would tell me more about it. You said they were interested in funding your next production.” Stephen dropped his briefcase beside the sofa. “Lucy, can I sit down first? I've barely had a moment to breathe since morning.”“Of course. I'm sorry.”She stepped aside, watching him settle onto the sofa and reach for his phone. For a moment, she considered leaving him alone, but something inside her refused to let the question go. “Stephen, there's something I wanted to ask you.”He kept his eyes on his screen.
The news interrupted the business report playing on Stephen Anderson's office television. He barely looked up until the anchor mentioned a familiar name, making him freeze in disbelief.“Breaking news. Popular actress Isabella Hartley has reportedly been involved in a serious accident while returning from a movie shoot. Sources confirm she is currently in a coma.”Stephen stared at the screen, his whiskey glass halfway to his mouth. Isabella's photograph appeared beneath the headline, showing her smiling at a recent film premiere. “No,” he muttered. The anchor continued speaking, but Stephen barely heard anything. His fingers tightened around the glass until it slipped from his hand, shattering against the office floor. “Damn it!”He sprang to his feet, knocking his chair backward. “How could this happen to her?” His assistant hurried inside, startled by the sudden noise coming from his office.“Sir? Are you all right?” the assistant asked. Stephen pointed at the television. “Do I loo
