Chapter 4

Author: Skylar Blue
Sarah nodded obediently. “Thank you, Mom. Dad.”

My heart went completely cold as I watched.

In my previous life, they had beaten me to death with a hoe. In this one, they were trying to beat me to death again.

They refused to believe me. All they believed was that damned test report.

“Fine. I’ll agree to the divorce.” I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth. “But I need to clear my name. You can’t pin these pregnancies of unknown origin on me.”

A strange smile appeared on Sarah’s face. “Fine.”

At her signal, William, his face murderous, aimed a high-definition livestream camera at me.

“Daniel Cooper! Today, in front of the whole world, you’re going to give Sarah and every woman whose feelings you deceived and whose pregnancy you caused an explanation! I’ll make sure everyone sees what a hypocritical, cheating bastard you really are!”

He and several burly men shoved me all the way to the busiest plaza in the city.

Drawn by the commotion, people stopped to watch.

Sarah stood before the camera, her shoulders trembling as she cried.

My chest ached. Instinctively, I reached out to comfort her.

But she recoiled like a startled rabbit and slapped me across the face.

“Don’t touch me with your filthy hands! You cheating, lying bastard who sleeps with women and abandons them! You make me sick!”

The livestream comments exploded at once:

[Drop dead, you cheating bastard!]

[You go, girl!!!]

[I can smell the scumbag through the screen!]

[He deserves to be chemically castrated!]

[I recorded this. Can’t wait for it to trend.]

She swayed unsteadily, and pain twisted through my chest. Instinctively, I reached out to steady her.

“Sarah, we loved each other so much. Why won’t you believe me?”

But she flung my hand away as if it had burned her and stumbled back, her eyes full of fear and disgust.

“Don’t touch me! You disgust me!”

The sight of her left me both heartbroken and helpless.

“Sarah, you know you’re the only one I’ve ever loved. Why are you doing this?”

A bitter laugh broke from her as tears streamed down her face. “You call that love? You got eighteen women pregnant at once, then refused to take responsibility for any of them!

“You refused to take responsibility for me, for them, or for those unborn children! You slept around without a care in the world. Do you really think that’s acceptable, Daniel Cooper? You are a heartless bastard!”

As she spoke, her emotions finally broke. With a thud, she dropped to her knees and began banging her head against the ground.

“I’m begging you! Please leave me alone! I really can’t take this anymore...”

The eighteen assistants knelt in a neat row behind her, each holding up a paternity report that identified me as the father.

The crowd’s anger erupted completely:

[The evidence is overwhelming, and he still wants to deny it? What trash! He’s not even a real man!]

[The proof is right there, and he still won’t admit it! Beat this scumbag to death!]

[Cheating trash like him deserves to be castrated!]

[Putting on an amnesia act now? You weren’t saying that when you were having fun!]

[Hit him! Scumbags like him deserve it!]

The livestream comments flew by in a frenzy.

The accusations and furious shouts from the crowd drowned me out in an instant.

I tried to explain. “No! It isn’t what you think! I never touched any of them...”

But my voice was barely audible beneath the roar of the crowd.

“You’re still making excuses!”

“Hit him!”

I did not know who struck first, but a bottle of water smashed into my head.

Then fists and kicks rained down on me from every direction. I curled up, shielding my vital spots.

In the chaos, a sharp pain exploded at the back of my head. Everything went black, and I lost consciousness.

...

I did not know how long had passed when I woke to the smell of disinfectant.

A stark white hospital ceiling filled my vision. The slightest movement made my whole body feel as though it had been torn apart.

The nurse changing my dressing saw that I was awake. She gave me a disdainful look and snorted.

I closed my eyes weakly, consumed by humiliation and despair.

Then a thought suddenly struck me.

At last, I understood why all eighteen assistants had become pregnant with my children, even though I never touched any of them.

“Friends? Is that how you treat a friend? You sleep with my wife, spend my money, then try to take everything I own?“When your mother was seriously ill, who paid her medical bills? When your company went bankrupt, who transferred you money in the middle of the night? When debt collectors came after you, who hid you in his own home?”I threw him to the ground. Without another look at either of them, I turned and nodded to the police officer who had arrived.“Officer, I’ll leave the rest to the law.”With sirens blaring, Sarah and William were led into police cars.Just as the door was closing, Sarah suddenly began pounding against the window like a madwoman, hurling her most vicious curse at me.“Daniel Cooper! You cold-blooded monster are destined to die alone! I curse you to a miserable death!”I stood where I was and let her curse fade into the wind.At last, the wasteland inside me had begun to clear.Three months later, the court handed down its verdict.Sarah was sentenced to tw

William flew into a rage. “Bitch! You were the one who came onto me first! You said you were lonely and desperate for someone to keep you warm!”“You’re lying!” Sarah shrieked hysterically. “You were the one who said Daniel was always too busy with work to care about me, that he didn’t deserve everything he had! You said we should teach him a lesson!”Then she turned toward me, tears shimmering in her eyes. Tears had left her makeup smeared and streaked across her face.“Daniel, do you remember? Last year, you promised to spend my birthday with me, but you ended up working at the office until dawn again... I was so lonely... He took advantage of me when I was vulnerable...”She cried so hard she could barely catch her breath, as though she had suffered some enormous injustice.“I know your business has always mattered more to you than my feelings... but I’m your wife...”In my previous life, perhaps her words would have made me ache with guilt. But now, I found them laughable.I slowl

The first clip was crystal-clear security footage from a hotel corridor. The man wore a cap and a mask, but the distinctive old scar on William’s left wrist was unmistakable. The second was an audio recording—a hushed conversation between Sarah and William.[...Did you give him enough? Don’t let him wake up halfway through.][Relax. It’s enough to keep him asleep until noon tomorrow. Give me the phone. I’ll arrange a meeting with that new assistant...][William, next time you go, remember to wear his gray suit. You’ll look more like him from behind...][Do we still have enough sperm samples? If not, we’ll have to figure something out...]The recording was short, but its implications were explosive.“No! It’s fabricated! It’s all fake!” Sarah screamed hysterically. She tried to rush forward and snatch my phone, but security stopped her.William’s face turned ashen. He instinctively took a step back. The room descended into complete chaos.Reporters went wild, shoving their way forward

I looked up. The panicked, evasive man I had been was gone. My gaze was sharp as a blade as it swept slowly across the room.I picked up the divorce agreement and, before everyone’s stunned eyes, tore it into pieces. The white scraps fluttered down like an unexpected snowfall. The entire room erupted.“Daniel Cooper! What are you doing?”Sarah shot to her feet with a shriek.William immediately stepped forward, every muscle tense as he glared at me, as though he were about to attack.I ignored them and faced the countless cameras before me as I spoke slowly.“Have you had enough of this performance?“Did you really think you could keep playing me like a fool until you had drained every last bit of value from me?”The words struck like a thunderclap, leaving everyone frozen in shock.Sarah’s expression changed dramatically, though she forced herself to remain calm. “You... you’ve lost your mind! What nonsense are you talking about?”“Lost my mind?” I let out a cold laugh. “Sarah, that

I took a deep breath.“Stop arguing... All of you, stop... I... I admit it...”The hospital room fell silent. Everyone strained to listen, while every camera remained trained on me.“Things have reached this point... I have no way to defend myself. I’m willing... willing to take full responsibility.”“Responsibility? How are you going to do that?” one assistant’s father shouted, his eyes red.“We can discuss the details at a press conference. I promise I’ll give everyone a solution you can accept.” I looked at them with apparent sincerity.“I only ask... that you give me a chance to make a public apology, so this matter... can finally be put to rest.”The assistants’ families exchanged looks, and some of their anger seemed to fade. After a brief stunned pause, Sarah addressed the crowd through her tears.“Although he has made an unforgivable mistake, he is... at least willing to take responsibility.”“I, Sarah White, promise all of you this: even though I’m a victim too, I will not aba

I pulled out my phone, just about to test my theory. Then the hospital room door burst open.A huge crowd surged inside.“Daniel Cooper! You heartless bastard! Give my daughter back her dignity!”“My daughter is only twenty-three! You’ve destroyed her future! You’re going to give us an explanation today!”“You disgusting excuse for a human being! You dress like a respectable man, but everything you do is vile!”“You got her pregnant and think you can just walk away? The world doesn’t work that way! If you don’t give us an answer we can accept today, we’ll kill you even if it costs us our lives!”Their curses and sobs wove into a suffocating net, trapping me at its center. At that moment, a young doctor squeezed through the crowd and tried to restore order.“Everyone, please calm down. This is a hospital. The patient is seriously injured and needs to rest...”“Doctor, did that pathetic act fool you too? Look at this!”The middle-aged man at the front pulled out a thick stack of printed
