Elena Scarlet’s POV

“Mum, I’m not getting engaged to that boy! I don’t even like him!” I snapped, folding my arms, with disgust written all over my face.

She hadn’t even let me change out of my school uniform before dropping the bomb that I had an official meetup scheduled—with Adrian—that weekend.

“Elena,” she said gently, “Adrian’s mum and I made that promise when she was pregnant. It would mean the world to me if you honored it.”

She said giving me that pleading gaze—the one that always caved me into doing whatever she wanted.

But not today.

“I don’t care what promise you made, Mum. I’m not getting engaged to Adrian, and that’s on period!”

My words came out louder than I intended, fueled by the anger building in my chest.

“You do not talk to your mother like that!” my dad’s voice rang angrily from the doorway. He had just walked in and looked furious.

My heart skipped; he had never shouted at me like that before.

“Now apologize,” he ordered sharply.

I swallowed hard and turned to my mom. “I… I’m sorry,” I murmured, still surprised.

Without waiting for their response, I rushed out of the room—blinking back tears as I dialed Zane's number while hurrying down the stairs.

I always thought the Adrian-marriage thing was a joke. But on my sixteenth birthday—just three weeks ago—my mom had made it official.

Adrian and I were like two parallel lines that were never meant to meet. We had never spoken, despite going to the same school and our moms being friends. He was ice-cold, and to be honest? I preferred it that way.

Zane picked up after two rings.

“Hey?”

“I’m tired,” I whispered through tears, stepping into the car as Francis—my driver—opened the door.

“Where are you?” Zane asked, concerned.

“Heading to Bella’s place.”

“Alright. I’ll pick you up from there,” he said and hung up.

Francis glanced at me through the mirror. “Where to, ma’am?”

“To Bella’s,” I responded with a deep sigh.

Zane and I were friends, he had this energy, this carefree way of being that made me like him.

People at school called him a bad boy but for me, he was real, and the only one who made me feel safe whenever I felt like giving up.

I had just arrived outside Bella’s house when Zane’s black sports car pulled up. He looked like the kind of guy your mom warned you about—and he dressed the part too—piercings, tattoos, ripped jeans, combat boots, chains and rings.

“Yo, what’s up?” he asked as I climbed in.

“It’s my mom…” I started, tearing up.

“It’s okay,” he said, tucking a few strands of hair behind my ear and buckling my seatbelt. “Let’s get outta here.”

He smirked slightly as he started driving.

“You’re such a crybaby, Elena. Wanna try something new?”

I sniffled and wiped my eyes. “What is that?”

“I’m going bike racing with the guys. I want you to come along.”

His eyes flicked toward me for a moment.

“Alright,” I nodded.

I needed a break from everything anyway.

***

Few hours later, we landed in Las Vegas on one of Zane’s father’s private jet.

The crown-shaped chandelier above us sparkled softly, casting a warm glow across the room as we stepped into the private suite he had reserved. Zane walked beside me, one hand tucked into his pocket while the other held his phone.

Without a word, he moved to the couch and sank into it, draping one arm over the side as he scrolled, completely at ease—like he owned the room.

He looked up as I passed, his eyes following me slowly in that way that always made my heart flutter, even if I pretended not to notice.

“You booked all this?” I asked as I sat beside him.

“Yeah,” he said gently, looking straight at me. “You like things that shine Elena.”

We didn’t speak after that—just stared at each other for a while.

Then he glanced down at my lips, and I knew what it meant. We both liked each other—but Zane was the kind of guy  who played with hearts like it was a game, and I wasn’t willing to be one of them.

Before the moment could go any further, I turned to the window suddenly, pretending to fix the curtain,  as my heart threatened to jump out of my chest.

***

The racing spot was an abandoned highway just outside the city with dim lights and no traffic. I watched as five bikes raced down the road, and I couldn’t take my eyes off him.

My phone buzzed.

I’m sorry I shouted, Elena. Where are you? Please come home. — Dad.

I scoffed. “Too late,” I muttered, slipping the phone into my bag as Zane pulled up in front of me.

“Wanna learn?” he asked with a grin.

I nodded.

He got off, came around the bike, and rested his hands lightly on my waist, then lifted me like I weighed nothing.

My heart skipped as I sat down, feeling the hum of the engine beneath me.

“You sure it’s safe?” I asked, holding the helmet he handed me.

Zane chuckled. “Relax, Scarlet. You’re with me.”

“You hold it like this,” he said, guiding my hands to the grips from behind as his breath brushed my neck, sending chills down my body.

We rode a few laps together, and I couldn’t stop smiling. On the fourth, he got another bike from his friend.

“Can you try it yourself now?” he asked.

I nodded, excited.

I did a full lap alone while Zane trailed me, and when I finally stopped, breathless, he laughed.

“You good now?”

“One more,” I said.

This time, I took off faster, the wind tearing past me. For the first time in forever, I felt a bit free, not like a caged bird or someone who was constantly watched.

The pressure to be perfect, to stay composed, to look flawless... it never ended. Even my own parents had no idea I battled depression for years.

I was expected to take over my father’s empire one day—a man known in every corner of the business world. But I didn’t care about mergers or boardrooms.

I didn’t want any of it, I just wanted to live, laugh, and be messy, the way normal people get to be.

And out here, racing down an open stretch of road with Zane behind me, it was the closest I’d ever felt to that.

Then everything happened so fast.

“Elena! Slow down!” Zane’s voice rang out.

I laughed—just before I saw her—a lady—right ahead.

“Nooooooo!” I screamed, jerking the brake, but it was too late.

The bike slammed into her and I was thrown through the air.

And then everything went black.

Adrian’s POV“Lucien, can you remember what really happened between Adrian and Bella?” Kade asked as we entered our private lounge.“Bella was trying to kiss you… but you refused. You caught her wrists, told her to pull herself together. That was it.” He breathed the words like they barely mattered. His gaze drifted to the side, as though his mind was elsewhere entirely.I let out a quiet breath of relief and leaned back on the sofa.“What’s up, Lucien? You look like something’s disturbing you,” Kade pressed. I glanced at Lucien, and realized he wasn’t okay.“I’m okay,” Lucien muttered, flashing Kade a brief look.Kade shrugged, unwilling to drag it further. “I’ll be heading home early. See you guys tomorrow.” He rose, swung his sleek designer bag across his shoulder, and walked out.The room fell into silence—until my phone buzzed sharply against the glass table. The screen lit up with my father’s name. My stomach dropped. A familiar dread found its way through my chest. That feeli

Tessa’s POV (as Elena)It was Sports Day—one of Bella’s most exciting days of the week, so I expected to find her buzzing with energy.“Hey, Bella,” I beamed as I stepped into our private lounge, ready to be greeted with her usual bright smile.“Hi,” she responded softly, her face clouded with something that looked like worry.I stood still for a moment. Bella never sounded like this.“What’s wrong? You don’t look yourself,” I asked curiously, tilting my head toward her.“It’s okay, Elena,” she said calmly. It was so unlike her that my suspicion grew even stronger.“And why aren’t you preparing for your ballerina routine? That’s your favorite part of today.”Just then, her phone screen lit up. She immediately stood up, snatched it from the table, and glanced at it quickly. Her expression tightened before she muttered, “See you later,” and hurried out the door without another word.I let out a long sigh, confused by her behavior. I dropped a textbook I had borrowed from the library on

Bella’s POVI had a date that evening with Lucien—he had texted me a few minutes ago, as a reminder. But first, I needed to go with Emris to Elena’s house to check on her.On our way there, I noticed Emris’s mood was somehow strange. Although he was more of an introvert, today he seemed even more withdrawn.“Don’t tell me there’s no poor girl for you to go through this week,” I joked, trying to shake him out of whatever cloud hovered over him.“Please, Bella,” he said firmly, as his eyes darted away.“Hey, what’s wrong?” I pressed. “You don’t look fine, Emris.”“I am fine, Bella,” he responded with a sigh.“You can talk to me, Emris.” I reached over and held his hand. His gaze flashed towards me for a second. “Recently I feel like we’ve not really been talking, you know.” He smiled faintly and pulled his hand away. “It’s okay, Bella.”“Okay,” I shrugged as we both stepped down from the car.***“Hello, Mother,” we greeted as we walked into Elena’s house.“Bella, how are you doing? • Reborn as Elena Scarlet    Chapter 41: When Walls Begin to Break

Adrian’s POV“Elena,” I called out as she went limp in my arms, and became unconscious.I scooped her up from the floor, as my heart raced, and strode quickly toward the door. My P.A swung it open in haste, already signaling the drivers.“Elena,” I whispered again, holding her face gently as we rushed into the car. Her cheeks felt cold, her skin pale, fragile—like she could shatter at any second. For the first time in what felt like forever, there was no anger, no resentment inside me. Only one wish: that she would be well.We pulled up at their family hospital—one of the best in the city and headed straight to the emergency ward.Few minutes later, I paced restlessly in the hallway, unable to sit, my wrist trembling the way it always did whenever fear got the better of me. I hadn’t felt that kind of raw fear in years.I sat beside her later, still not believing I had actually taken that seat. Her lashes fluttered, her eyes opened slowly. “Are you okay?” I asked, my voice coming softer

  • Reborn as Elena Scarlet    Chapter 40: Adrian and Elena’s Dance

Tessa’s POV (as Elena)I smiled, trying not to show my fears. Chloe’s smirk faded instantly, dissolving into quiet sobs.“Elena was cold and strict—very strict. She rarely smiled. And that… that was what I loved about her,” she whispered, her voice trembling.I tilted my head in surprise. “Really?”She nodded quickly.“But these days you smile—at almost every fan,” she wiped her face with the back of her hand. “I don’t like that,” she added, with a childlike stubbornness in her tone.“I’m sorry, okay?” I told her, extending my hands. She grabbed them immediately, holding me with desperate eyes.I softened my voice. “I want you to know something, Chloe. Change happens as we grow. If we stay the same forever, then we aren’t really living. We’d be machines, not human beings.”Her brows furrowed. “Is that why I feel all these… strange emotions lately?”“What emotions?” I asked gently, trying to keep the smile on my face. She leaned forward, whispering as if it were a confession. “I saw

And now, I had to wait for some spirit… till heaven knows when?Zane’s call dragged me out of my thoughts.“Hey, Zane.”“Hey,” he said softly, almost in a whisper.“Come outside. I’m right at your door.”I blinked in surprise, “Okay.”I stood up and headed out.Zane was sitting in his car, leaning casually against the window. He wore a black leather jacket, ripped jeans, messy dark hair falling over his forehead, and that careless smirk that said he didn’t care what anyone thought. He signaled for me to hop in, and the moment I did, he sped away.We ended up at a private beach resort, and I couldn’t help wondering what we were doing there.“Hey, El,” he said with a smile, though his eyes were serious. “Back when you tol
