I heard Caius say my name. Then everything went black. I fell. His arms caught me.

The first thing I felt was softness. Then I smelled the air. It was cool and calm.

I opened my eyes. The ceiling was not one I knew. This was not my small bed in the servant’s room. The air here was different. It felt rich.

Then I knew.

I was in the Alpha’s room.

I sat up. My body was sore. I heard men talking.

“We must be sure. Are you certain?” That was Caius. He sounded worried.

“Yes, Alpha,” another man said. “I did the test three times. The girl is pregnant.”

My heart stopped.

Pregnant?

I put a hand on my stomach. Who is pregnant? No… it cannot be me…

“Who is pregnant?” I said. My voice shook.

Caius turned fast. “Go now,” he told the other man.

The man left.

I looked at Caius. I felt panic. “I do not understand…”

He walked to me slowly, like I was a scared animal. “You are pregnant, Ayla.”

I could not move.

“No,” I said softly. “No… this is wrong. Everything is wrong. First, I was… hurt. Then people said I did a bad thing. You put me in the dark cell. And now… now there is a baby in me? This is all wrong!”

My legs felt weak. I fell. Caius ran and caught me. He held me in his arms.

“Shhh,” he said softly. “You need to sit.” His voice was kind now.

He put me back on the bed.

He moved a piece of hair from my wet face.

“Ayla,” he said, his voice tight. “Was I… the first man you were ever with?”

Tears fell down my face. “You took my first time,” I whispered. “You did not even ask…”

My words changed him.

Right away, he pulled me into a hug. His arms were around my shaking body.

“I am sorry,” he whispered into my hair. “I was bad. I let the wolf in me take over. I did not know… but I promise you, I will keep you safe. And the baby. You are my mate, Ayla. That will never change.”

I did not move. Then, after a long time, I spoke into his shirt.

“That cannot be. An Alpha does not want an Omega.”

“We cannot question the Moon Goddess,” he said softly. “She chooses. We follow.”

“But… Sylvia,” I whispered. “She will kill me.”

“She will not hurt you,” Caius said. He pulled back to look at me. “I promise.”

I swallowed hard. “So what do we do now?”

“We tell no one,” Caius said firmly. “No one can know you are my mate. And no one can know about the baby.”

I looked at him, hurt. “No one?”

“It is to keep you safe,” he said. “I am a new Alpha. The old men are watching. If they find out my mate is an Omega–”

“They would be angry with you,” I finished.

“No,” Caius said. “They would try to hurt you.”

We were quiet.

Then I stood up. “I have to go back to work. If I am gone too long, people will ask questions.”

“You are right,” Caius nodded. “But from now on, you will be my personal maid.”

I was surprised. “What?”

“This way, you are near me. I can keep you safe. You will not work too hard. You will move to the maid’s room next to mine. My door will always be open for you.”

He stepped close. He kissed my forehead softly.

I could not breathe.

“I will tell the head maid,” he said. “Rest. I will come back soon.”

He turned and left.

The door closed.

I sat in silence. My hands shook as I held my stomach. Everything happened so fast.

A baby was inside me.

I am an Omega. I carry the Alpha’s child.

“I cannot have a baby in this cruel world,” I whispered to myself. “Not after all the bad things.”

But Caius seemed… different. His words felt true. His touch did not hurt like before. His eyes were soft. The kiss on my head made my face feel warm.

I lay back on the bed. I curled up in the warmth. My fingers touched the spot where his lips had been. For the first time in so long, I felt peace.

I had not slept well since my mom and dad died, since I became a dreaded servant in this pack.

My eyes closed.

I was deep and peaceful sleep when loud voices woke me.

“What do you mean, Alpha? You will make that dirty Omega your personal maid?!”

It was Sylvia’s voice.

My eyes opened wide.

Oh no.

The door to the room flew open.

  • Reborn as a dragon Queen    Chapter 50: The Dangerous Game

Ayla’s POVI did not look away from Thorne’s hard stare. I did not let my eyes drop. I held his gaze, even as his fingers dug into my wrist.“It is not about wanting him here,” I said, my voice steady. “It is about not looking weak. If we hide here after what happened, we look afraid. We look like we are scared of them.”His eyes narrowed. He did not let go. “We are not scared of them.”“I know that,” I said. “But do they? Do the other packs who watch us? If we invite Caius here, to our land, it shows we are strong. It shows we control the game. We can set the rules. We can watch him on our territory, not his. After the hunt… people will talk. They will say there was an attempt. A peace treaty here, in Sun Palace, stops those whispers. It makes us look like the wise ones. The strong ones.”I was using his own language. Strength. Control. Power. He listened. I could see his mind working behind his dark eyes. The politician in him saw the sense. But the possessive wolf in him did not tr

  • Reborn as a dragon Queen    Chapter 49: The Fire Inside

Ayla’s POVWaking up felt like climbing out of a deep, black pit. My body was heavy. My mouth was dry. There was a strange silence in my ears, like after a loud noise.Slowly, the world came back. The soft feel of a bed. The smell of clean sheets and healing herbs. The dim light of a room I knew. Sun Palace. My room.I opened my eyes.Thorne was there. He was slumped in a chair pulled right up to my bed. His head was bowed, his face buried in one hand. He looked... tired. Worn thin. I had never seen him look like that. When my eyes opened, he moved. Fast. He was up, leaning over me. His hands came to my face, his grip rough. He turned my head, looking into my eyes. His thumb pressed against the pulse in my throat. His hands were shaking. Just a little bit.“Say something,” he ordered. His voice was a dry rasp, like he hadn’t used it in days.“My head hurts,” I whispered. It was the truth. It throbbed. He let out a sharp breath. He took his hands from my face, but he didn’t move back.

  • Reborn as a dragon Queen    Chapter 48:The Trap Springs

Ayla’s POVThe warriors’ words echoed in my skull like a death bell. Strangles the wolf form... die quick...The cool moonstone at my throat felt like a serpent coiled against my skin. Every instinct screamed to tear it off. But I couldn’t. Not here, in front of everyone. It would be an open accusation. It might even trigger the curse early.I needed to get it off safely. In private. I needed to not shift. Not even a little.Thorne finished his talk with his captain and turned back to me, his gaze sharp. “Ready?”No. I was not ready. I was walking into a forest with a noose around my neck.“Yes,” I lied, forcing a calm smile. The hunt began. We rode into the dense woods north of the Bloodfang stronghold. The atmosphere was tense, a thin veneer of ceremony over deep suspicion. Thorne rode close to my side, his eyes constantly scanning the trees. Cain and Maddie were nearby, their faces alight with a cruel, eager kind of excitement.Caius and Sylvia led the party. “The great stag of the

  • Reborn as a dragon Queen    chapter 47: The cursed gift

Ayla’s POV My eyes snapped open in the dark. The hunt. The stupid ceremonial hunt to “honor” Thorne. It was the perfect place for an accident. A stray arrow. A fall from a horse. A sudden animal attack. No one would question it. I tried to push myself up, but my body was heavy and weak, like a sack of wet sand. My limbs trembled. I fell back against the pillows, my heart pounding with frustration. Thorne was asleep in the big chair he’d pulled beside my bed. Even in sleep, his face was not peaceful. His brow was furrowed. His jaw was tight. He looked like a man fighting battles in his dreams. A part of me, a stupid, soft part, wanted to wake him. To tell him everything I’d heard. But I had no proof. Only the whispered words of traitors in a dark hall. He would demand names. He would act with all his blunt, brutal force. And we would be trapped here, surrounded by enemies with their plans exposed too soon. No. I had to be smarter. I had to be ready. By the time grey morning ligh

  • Reborn as a dragon Queen    Chapter 46: The Taste of Poison

Ayla’s POv My legs went soft, like warm wax. The world tilted. The loud hall, the bright fires, the watching faces, all of it began to slide away. I stumbled. Strong arms caught me before my knees hit the cold stone floor. Thorne. He pulled me hard against his chest. His body was unyielding as a cliff face. He looked down at me, his expression dark and stormy. “What is wrong?” he demanded. His voice was low but sharp as a blade. His hands gripped my arms, his fingers biting into my skin. “I am fine,” I tried to say, but the words came out slow and thick, like mud. My tongue felt heavy and useless. “Just… dizzy. The fire is too hot.” But my legs would not listen to me. They folded under me like wet cloth, with no strength left at all. Thorne did not ask again. He swept me up into his arms, holding me so tight it stole my breath. He turned, a deep, vicious snarl ripping from his throat. The sound was pure, undiluted rage. “WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?” he roared across the sile

  • Reborn as a dragon Queen    Chapter 45: The Poisoned Feast

Ayla’s POV I could not tell Thorne. If I told him someone meant to poison my wine, he would demand to know how I knew. He would pull the truth from me with his cold, hard stares. He would see the fear I had for this place. He would see Ayla, not Liliana. No. I had to face this alone. I had to be watchful. The great hall was loud with voices and the smell of roasted meat. Torches flickered on the walls, throwing dancing shadows. The Bloodfang Pack filled the long tables, their faces rough, their eyes sharp. They watched us like we were fresh prey. I sat beside Thorne at the high table. He was a wall of quiet power. Cain and Maddie sat further down, looking too pleased, like cats who had found a bowl of cream. Across from us sat Caius and Sylvia. Caius wore a smile that did not touch his winter-blue eyes. Sylvia’s smile was a pretty, painted thing. Her gaze kept sliding to me, cold and curious. A servant came to pour the wine. A young girl, her hands shaking. She filled Caius’s cu
