Lucien's POV

Ulric was shaking.

It wasn't the kind of fear you could hide behind your pride but it was the kind of fear that made his hands tremble as he stood in front of me.

Sweat ran down his temple and dropped into the collar of his robe. His eyes kept darting to the door like he expected death to come running at him any second.

“Please,” he whispered. “You have to let me leave. If Marla sees me here with you and Calla, everything I worked for will be gone. Everything.”

I looked at him wi

Lucien's POV Rian stood a few steps away from us, his men spread out like branches of a tree behind him.His eyes were looking straight at me and I did the same. I kept my eyes on him even though I could feel Calla and Fenric rasped breaths at my back.I had not planned to meet him here. None of us planned this. It was unexpected.“So,” Rian said, his voice calm in a way that felt fake, “the great Alpha of Nightmoor walks into the North with his little group.*Fenric adjusted beside me, like he wanted to attack but I held him right in the spot, whispering to him not to move.“And what is Rian, the Alpha of the Shadow pack doing in the North.” Lucien Joked in the same manner as Rian. “I have the right to be anywhere I want whenever I want.” Rian answered, extending his hands and spreading them sideways like he owned us.“Then you have no right to question me.” Lucien snapped. “I'm sure you are not the only pack staying here in the North.”Rian chuckled. “I saw that coming. I know you

Calla's POV The border to the North did not look like a place meant for people. It looked like a wound in the earth. We got there as the sun was close to its setting time.Tall bushes were almost around the place. Thick and wild bushes took almost over the border, blocking what little that was available. There was no visible road there. So no cat could drive across it. Fenric stopped the car first.“I think this is as far as it goes,” he said. Lucien opened his door and stepped out, taking a brief look at where we were.“This is where we walk.” I followed them out and alighted from the car. The evening cold air hit my face at once and it smelled of wet leaves and rain. I pulled my coat tighter around myself and looked ahead.“Why does this place feel wrong?” I shook my head. “This place feels so wrong.”Fenric nodded. “I was thinking the same thing.” Lucien turned and looked at the both of us. “Don't tell me you two are afraid now.” He suggested but we both kept mute. “We can't a

Calla's POV:Before sunrise, Nightmoor still slept under a blanket of dew.The trees stood like dark guards around the pack grounds and the wind moved softly through the leaves. The sky itself was deep gray, caught between night and morning. A black car rolled out from the inner gate of the pack, its engine not too loud. Fenric sat in the driver's seat, his hands firm on the wheel and his eyes were focused on the road ahead. Lucien and Calla sat in the back seat, the space between them being small. They were leaving Nightmoor in search of the witch.Calla leaned her head against the window and watched the pack fade behind them, her arms crossed around her chest. Every turn of the road felt like a step closer to Willow.Lucien sat beside her, his shoulders looking tense. His eyes stayed forward as if he could see the future through the glass..Fenric cleared his throat, breaking the silence that hung around. “So, we really fooled her.”Calla turned her head slowly. “Marla Marla.”“I

Calla's POVThe door opened slightly and Lucien stepped inside his office, shutting the door behind him with a dull sound.I was already inside the room with Fenric and my Father, Ulric. I sat on the long table with my legs crossed while Fenric sat on the chair with his body slumped on it. And my father? He stood near the window with his hands behind his back. We all had been waiting for Lucien to return from the infirmary. When Lucien lifted his eyes and saw us, he stopped for a moment. His gaze moved from Fenric to Ulric and then to me. We all stared at each other for a moment, the silence becoming more suffocating. After almost a minute of staring competition and silence, Lucien grin widened with a big smile. We all bursted into laughter too. “You did well, Calla.” He said, clapping his hands. “You did well, Lucien.” I said, clapping my hands too. “Did she talk?” Fenric asked. Lucien walked to his desk and placed his hands on it. “She lied just as I knew she would.”“Thank g

Lucien's POV I was on my way to the infirmary when I saw Calla coming out of it. She was walking fast with her head high and her face hard like stone. Her eyes did not look at me. Not even for a second.“Calla,” I called but she did not answer. She just walked past me as if I was not there. I turned and watched her go with confident strides. She looked like someone who had made up her mind about something and that frightened me. I looked up and sighted Lydia and the two attendants with my side eyes. They were watching me as their eyes were fixed in my direction. I breathed and walked up to them since they were close to the infirmary. “Alpha Lucien,” Lydia said and bowed her head. “Good day, my lord,” the attendants said together.“Good day,” I replied and looked past them into the infirmary.“Is Marla awake?” I asked. “Yes. She is resting but she is awake.” Lydia answered.I nodded and went inside. Marla smirked when she saw me.“Oh. You are here. I thought as much.” Marla ha

Calla's POVShortly after my time with my mate, I headed straight to the infirmary.Finding a witch could not wait and the only one who could help was Marla. When I entered, the room was bright but it felt cold to me. Lydia stood near one of the beds, mixing whatever it was inside a bowl while two other attendants were nearby whispering as they worked.Lydia looked up when she saw me.“Lady Calla, you are back again.” She said kindly.“Yes, I need to speak to Marla.” Lydia glanced toward the far side of the room where Marla lay on her bed. Marla was awake and her eyes were opened as they landed on me.“I want to speak to her alone,” Lydia hesitated. “Is everything all right?”“Yes. I just need a private word with her.”She studied my face for a moment, then nodded. She clicked her fingers together and immediately, the attendants left what they were doing and walked out of the room. Lydia was the last to leave so she closed the door behind her.The room became quiet. And Marla smile
