Could it be that Theodore thought she was playing tricks and decided not to come home?
It was common for him to spend the night at the office. Even when he did come home, he would go straight to his studies to avoid running into her, knowing it would make her unhappy.
But he had said this morning that he'd be home.
Maybe he just had too much work today.
She decided to wait a little longer.
Aunt Miller watched Sigourney, who was already looking exhausted, sitting there with her chin in her hands, staring intently at the door.
"Madam, why don't you eat first?"
"No, I'll wait for him."
Even though she was so hungry she could faint, Sigourney forced herself to endure.
But why was he still not home?
Was he really not coming back?
No way. She just needed to wait a little longer.
A little bit of stomach growling was nothing.
Aunt Miller grew more worried.
Sigourney was already in poor health, and now she was skipping meals-this was not good.
After hesitating momentarily, she decided to take a bold step and call Theodore's secretary.
At the company, Theodore was still in a meeting, discussing a new project with his partners.
He was so focused that he had completely forgotten about coming home early.
Sutton Mark, Theodore's secretary, saw his boss's phone ringing.
It was Aunt Miller.
Why was she calling at this hour?
Sutton instinctively reached out to decline the call, planning to inform Theodore after the meeting.
But then the phone rang again.
And then a third time...
What if it was something important?
What if it had to do with Madam?
Taking a deep breath, Sutton bravely answered the call.
"Hello, Aunt Miller?"
"Please tell Mr. Wang-"
"I understand."
Sutton knocked on the conference room door and stepped inside.
The instant Theodore's cold gaze landed on him, Sutton broke out in a cold sweat.
"Secretary Mark, are you looking to lose your job?"
"Sir, it's just a small matter-"
Theodore frowned, put down the draft in his hand, and signalled to his business partners to wait a moment.
"Speak."
Sutton stepped forward and leaned in to whisper:
"Madam cooked dinner herself this afternoon and has been waiting for you. She hasn't eaten yet."
Theodore immediately stood up, his expression sharp and intense.
Sutton shuddered.
This was a hundred-million-dollar project, not some trivial matter.
And now it was being put on hold over something this small?
Sutton felt like he was about to get fired.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
Theodore grabbed his coat, turned, and strode out of the room.
His partners looked on, stunned.
Before disappearing through the door, Theodore left behind a calm yet ruthless remark:
"Apologies. I'm unavailable today. We'll discuss the project another time."
...
By the time he arrived home, it was already 9 PM.
Theodore stepped out of the car, adjusted his tie, and walked slowly into the house.
Inside, it was silent.
Sigourney was nowhere to be seen. Maybe she had waited too long and gone to sleep already.
Just as he was about to head upstairs, Theodore suddenly changed direction-toward the kitchen.
The moment he stepped inside, he froze.
Sigourney had fallen asleep at the dining table while waiting for him.
Surrounding her were plates of food-all cold.
A warm sensation flashed through Theodore's chest.
He stood there watching her.
Tonight, she wasn't wearing any makeup, yet she was more beautiful than ever.
Silently, Theodore approached and gently draped his coat over her shoulders.
She stirred slightly, then opened her eyes.
The moment she looked up, she saw Theodore standing there, gazing at her. But his eyes weren't cold like usual. They were soft.
Flustered, she quickly stood up.
"Y-You're back! I'll go reheat the food right away!"
"No need to rush. I'll take a shower first."
"Ah... okay..."
Sigourney was nervous.
It was rare to see her like this. But her change was a good thing.
A few minutes later...
As she rearranged the dishes, she heard footsteps and turned around.
"The food is... r-ready-"
Her entire face turned bright red.
Standing before her was Theodore-fresh out of the shower, wearing only a bathrobe.
That was... way too inappropriate!
Sigourney felt her brain overheating.
Ever since returning to this life, she didn't know why-but every time she was near him, her heart wouldn't stop racing.
"Then let's eat."
Theodore ate calmly, his movements elegant and composed.
He looked up and saw Sigourney sitting there frozen.
"Why aren't you eating?"
"You go ahead. I'm not hungry."
Sigourney's stomach was hurting, but she still held back.
How was she supposed to eat naturally when he was sitting right across from her?
"You think your stomach growling is quiet?"
She immediately placed both hands over her stomach, looking away in embarrassment.
Theodore almost laughed out loud at her reaction.
"Besides, didn't you say you'd eat with me?"
Seeing that Sigourney was still sitting there motionless, Theodore began to feel impatient. It was already past 9 PM, yet she hadn't eaten anything-was she not hungry? Even though she had changed for the better, she was still as foolish as ever.
Theodore stood up, took her bowl, filled it with food, and placed it back down.
"Eat it all."
Sigourney reached for the chopsticks and pulled the bowl closer.
Only when he saw her start eating did Theodore return to his seat.
From time to time, Sigourney secretly stole glances at him. Even while eating, he looked so handsome-it was truly unreasonable.
She couldn't understand why, in her past life, she had insisted on divorcing him. Her nerves must have been completely tangled up to have blindly listened to Savannah's words.
Theodore put down his chopsticks and wiped his mouth with a napkin.
Unconsciously, Sigourney also put down her chopsticks and reached for a napkin to wipe her mouth. He frowned.
"If you're still hungry, keep eating."
Upon receiving the news, Theodore continued carrying out his plans for revenge as intended. One afternoon, while Sigourney was having tea with Grace at Grace's store, Grace suddenly slapped her thigh in shock and exclaimed to Sigourney."Sigourney, this is so bad." "Something big has happened."Her eyes were wide with alarm and worry, her expression troubled as she handed her phone to Sigourney to read the headlines."I can't believe it, Lucas Baines and you are sibings, same mom different dad.""This is impossible."Sigourney glanced at the news on Grace's screen, her reaction far from surprised. She had already anticipated this.It all began during a press conference for the launch of Baines Corporation's new project. When a smiling reporter asked Lucas about his future plans for the company, Lucas casually and cheerfully mentioned the possibility of working with Nichols Corporation if the opportunity arose. He even laughed as he added,"Perhaps not everyone knows this, but Sigo
In the days that followed, it could be said the seas were calm, the winds quiet.True to the plan, Theodore no longer pressed Lucas, nor did he allow Liam to target him within the corporation. Though Liam was deeply dissatisfied, he could only relent. After all, even Liam could not guarantee that if Lucas were driven to madness, Sigourney would remain safe. This was the calm before Lucas's storm, except for the fact that the corporation was still investigating the corruption in the projects. At the same time, while Sigourney was still unsettled, Richard truly did find an excuse to approach her.At an art exhibition, Sigourney had originally planned to go with Hillary. Yet in the end, Hillary happily chose to go on a date with her new boyfriend, leaving Sigourney abandoned.Yes. None other than the handsome male model they had met at the bar that night. Thus, though unwilling, Sigourney still went to the exhibition alone, for the sake of her own passion. For in moments like these, pa
"Not to mention, there's one more important thing."Having chosen to lay everything bare, Lucas would no longer conceal a single word. He fixed his gaze on Sigourney, his voice cutting."Are you certain Theodore loves you for who you are?""Or is it simply because you're the most capable heir of the Nichols family?"A single question, and Sigourney froze. Her lips trembled, yet for a long moment no answer came.Yes.She herself had no clear reply.Because, after all, their marriage had not begun with love, but with a commercial alliance. Theodore had married her solely because she was the heir apparent of the Nichols family, far more capable of succeeding Nichols Corporation than Savannah."Think about it, Sigourney. Even if I'm driven out of Baines Corporation, I'll still live just fine.""But you, I worry for you."Lucas sneered."I only fear that once I return to fight you for the right of succession at Nichols Corporation, and win,""Then my dear sister will be discarded by Theod
Lucas's counterattackdid not stop there. As a man who ran a vast corporation, his methods were far from simple. No one knew how he had obtained her contact information, but one weekend,he called and asked to meet Sigourney. The moment she heard Lucas's voice and the words he spoke,Sigourney instinctively grew wary."Lucas? Are you kidding me?""We don't even know each other, and out of nowhere you're asking to meet?""Don't make me think you're planning to kidnap me just to use that to threaten Theodore."She made her point sharp and clear. Obviously, she had no intention of meeting Lucas. He was far too dangerous. But Lucas, as though he had already expected this reaction, only gave a soft laugh before adding:"Is that so? Why say we don't know each other, as if we were nothing but strangers with no ties at all?""In the end, we're siblings, you and I, same mother, different fathers, my dear younger sister."Lucas's words struck with chilling precision.Sigourney's face turned pa
In that suspended atmosphere,Liam calmly let his gaze sweep across everyone before allowing a faint smile to curve his lips."Lucas, the CEO everyone places their trust in, is in fact nothing more than a fraud.""He has been embezzling from every single project the corporation has undertaken."This revelation struck like a bomb, leaving the entire room shaken.People exchanged uneasy glances, doubt and bewilderment written clearly on their faces. Some leaned close to whisper hurriedly among themselves. The furtive, sidelong looks made Lucas nearly lose his mind.Unable to restrain himself, he slammed the table hard, his eyes locking furiously on Liam's composed face as he shouted:"What are you saying? Don't spout nonsense without evidence.""Do you have any idea what price you'll pay for slander?"Lucas barked out his words, his eyes sharp and venomous as they bored into Liam, his voice growing shrill and acrid.Liam, unhurried, merely handed out the documents he had prepared in ad
In the days that followed, both Theodore and Sigourney were consumed with work.Sigourney worked overtime without pause on the partnership project with Aurelia Development Corporation after securing the bid, while Theodore busied himself with advancing his plan of revenge against Lucas. It was only at the start of the following month, on the day of Baines Corporation's board meeting, that Theodore finally allowed himself some measure of ease. For once, he spent a leisurely day handling affairs of his own corporation, a rare sight that even made Sutton Mark wonder.Over at Baines, however, things were far from relaxed.Lucas stared at the empty chair of the second-largest shareholder, fury boiling inside him as he cursed Theodore countless times. In such a critical meeting, what did it mean to deliberately arrive late? From the start, Lucas had despised waiting. He simmered with resentment, but still forced a smile as he addressed the other shareholders and the board."My apologies for
