Here we go again. The honeyed words, dripping with so-called concern. Savannah always fed Sigourney these seemingly sweet but actually poisonous remarks about her marriage.
But Sigourney was different now. She was no longer foolish enough to believe her.
She responded coldly: "From now on, stop calling him by his name. Call him 'brother-in-law' and show some respect."
What? What kind of tone was this? Savannah was stunned by the icy, disdainful way Sigourney spoke. She forced herself to hold back, pretending not to notice and changed the subject.
"Theodore is still upstairs, right? I'll go call him for you since you probably don't want to."
"Didn't you hear what I just said? Call him 'brother-in-law.'"
What? What on earth was wrong with her today? But at this moment, Savannah could only grit her teeth and comply.
"Yes, I understand... sis."
"Too bad, he just left."
Sigourney sneered, wiped her mouth with a napkin, and got up to leave. Savannah could no longer hold back, grabbing her arm and raising her voice in frustration.
"Sis, what's wrong with you? Why are you being so cold to me today? Did he force you into this? How about this-this time, you pretend to attempt suicide, and-"
Sigourney turned around, watching Savannah chattering away about her so-called perfect divorce plan.
"You can't live like this forever, you'll never be happy. And it hurts me too. Just follow my plan. This time, it will work-he'll definitely sign the divorce papers."
"Are you done?"
She pushed Savannah's hand away and gently patted her dear sister's head, as if she truly appreciated her concern.
Then, she softly said: "He's handsome, capable, and from a prestigious family. I've thought it over-I'm not divorcing him."
Savannah panicked. If Sigourney didn't divorce, how would she get her hands on Theodore? No, she had to put an end to this thought immediately.
"What? You'll regret it, sis. I-"
"Aunt Miller, see Savannah to the car. Have Assistant Byrne escort her back to the Nichols residence."
She cut Savannah off, subtly yet decisively kicking her out.
She might need some headache pills if she had to listen to any more of Savannah's chatter.
"But, I haven't-"
"Oh, right. From now on, don't come here so often. I'll have someone clean out the room you usually stay in. Theodore doesn't like strangers in the house."
Stranger? Since when did she become a stranger?! What was Sigourney thinking?!
Aunt Miller stepped in from outside, suppressing her distaste as she politely said: "Ms. Nichols, the car is waiting."
"Go home. I have a headache and need to rest."
Sigourney turned and quickly ascended the stairs, leaving no room for Savannah to hold her back.
Just looking at her right now gave her goosebumps.
"Also, when you go out, dress more modestly. Aren't you cold?"
It wasn't until Sigourney disappeared into her room that Savannah let out a huff and stormed off.
Aunt Miller let out a relieved sigh. Finally, Savannah would no longer be able to come here, flaunt herself in front of Mr. Theodore, and use Sigourney's status to act high and mighty.
This time, the madam had finally come to her senses-she had finally seen through her.
...
At four in the afternoon, Aunt Miller returned with two large bags of ingredients, as per Sigourney's instructions.
She busied herself washing and preparing the food, cooking nonstop until six in the evening when the meal was finally complete.
Sigourney looked at the beautifully arranged dishes on the table and smiled in satisfaction.
"My cooking skills aren't too bad."
Aunt Miller clasped her hands under her chin and smiled knowingly. Was this really the same young madam, personally preparing dinner for her husband?
She had thought she would never witness such a scene in her lifetime.
Aunt Miller had cared for Theodore since he was a child, loving him as if he were her own son.
He had never once looked at a woman. She had even thought that if he kept burying himself in work like this, he might never have a girlfriend.
And yet, out of nowhere, he got married, leaving her so stunned that she was in a daze for several days.
But in the past six months, there hadn't even been a single normal conversation between this young married couple, let alone a scene like today.
This was good. Hopefully, Sigourney would come to terms with everything and live harmoniously with Theodore.
"Aunt Miller, I'm going upstairs to take a shower. Call me when he gets home."
"Yes, ma'am."
Sigourney took off her apron and carefully placed it on the rack, her face lighting up with an excited smile as she happily went upstairs. She glanced at the clock. It was already six twenty.
"Theodore should be home soon."
Sigourney opened her suitcase to find a nightgown to change into but suddenly hesitated and gently closed it again.
She walked over to the door of the room opposite hers and opened it.
Oh my God.
It was as if an entire shopping mall had been moved into this room.
Clothes, shoes, jewellery-everything was neatly arranged, but there was so much of it that it made her dizzy just looking.
Of course, all of these things had been prepared by Theodore, and not just randomly-he had personally chosen each and every item.
He had told her to use them freely, but in an effort to keep her distance and avoid any connection to him, she had never even bothered to step inside.
Theodore had an excellent eye for style.
Every piece she looked at, Sigourney found herself liking.
She walked around and finally picked out a long white nightgown that reached down to her ankles.
The weather was a bit cold today, so it was best to dress modestly. Besides, Theodore hated seeing women in revealing clothing.
Before she knew it, it was already seven o'clock. Her stomach was starting to growl.
Sigourney began to worry.
As every gaze gradually shifted toward Sigourney, she calmly produced the share transfer agreement Emma had signed the day before and explained gently."As you all know, due to certain personal matters, my mom is no longer able to continue managing Nichols Corporation, nor participate in its business activities as a shareholder."Everyone present was aware of Emma's situation, so Sigourney alluded to it with tact, without going into detail."Therefore, she has signed an agreement transferring all of her shares in Nichols Corporation to me.""She wants me to continue managing and leading the corporation in her stead."Sigourney slowly handed the transfer agreement to the chairman of the board, Brendan, to review first. Brendan received it carefully, studied it for a long while, then nodded. He declared firmly,"This is indeed a legitimate share transfer agreement bearing Emma's signature."He pushed the document forward, his tone resolute."If anyone has doubts and wishes to verify it
Of course, Oliver's words continued to receive enthusiastic support, because Mark's damaging influence on Nichols Corporation had left them all deeply dissatisfied. The decision was carried out, and Mark immediately lost his position as CEO.Oliver calmly went on."Furthermore, Mark, you should go back and wait for the investigation.""With your actions, with evidence this clear, you'll be spending no small amount of time in prison.""You're about to pay the price for your recklessness and cruelty."Oliver sneered. Mark trembled, as if only now beginning to react. For some reason, though he heard Oliver's mockery, he turned his bullet-like gaze on Sigourney.Because at this moment, Sigourney's demeanor was utterly composed, as though she were watching a show. She even crossed her arms, sat upright, eyes fixed forward, the corners of her lips faintly curved. When their eyes met, Sigourney arched a brow, the trace of a smile playing on her lips. That Mark could not endure. Combined with
At the same time, in the evening, the scene at Mark's mansion was one of utter chaos.Somehow, information had leaked, and a crowd of reporters gathered in front of the gates, their noise so incessant that even from the upper floor Mark could hear every word distinctly."Mr. Nichols, we'd like to interview you about the accident scandal at the construction site. Could you come down and answer us?""Mr. Nichols, we know you're inside. Could you let us ask you a few questions?""Mr. Nichols, don't stay silent..."Each clamor rose again and again, tormenting Mark like a form of mental torture. He panicked, crouching into the corner of a wall, clutching his head, his body trembling uncontrollably.Just the thought of so many reporters waiting downstairs, the flash of cameras bursting without pause, was unbearable for him.His hands shaking, he snatched up the nearest phone, quickly dialing security, urging them to drive the crowd away at once. The guards, listening, responded with profess
Even Emma herself seemed not to have expected Theodore to speak so directly, leaving her momentarily stunned and speechless. But Theodore mistook her silence for hesitation. He fell quiet for a brief moment, then continued his explanation."Emma, we are not lying to take advantage of you. In truth, lately Mark has been relentlessly targeting Sigourney, trying to force her out of the corporation.""He even went so far as to stage an accident at the construction site under Sigourney's charge, bribing the families of the injured workers to put all the blame on her, making her the center of criticism."At the mention of Mark's schemes, Theodore felt nothing but utter disgust. Yet he had to bring it up, his tone sinking lower."If it hadn't been for me and Sigourney containing the situation in time, bringing the truth to light, then by now, Sigourney might already have been forced to resign."Emma's eyes widened, looking at Sigourney in both shock and sorrow. Sigourney was a sensible girl,
As for Sigourney, she wasn't particularly surprised that Mark hadn't returned to the corporation all day. After all, that was just his nature: whenever faced with trouble, he would avoid it.But there are matters one cannot simply escape from. He would still have to bear the consequences afterward. That afternoon, after work, Theodore came to pick Sigourney up. She happily threw her arms around him, recounting everything that had happened today, and emphasized:"It seems Mark's downfall is drawing near. One could even call it his retribution."Of course, when it came to Mark, Sigourney would never soften. He had hurt her mother and her, far too many times.Theodore smiled gently, promising that he would help her stir things up further, ensuring the public's attention, so that Mark would receive the punishment he truly deserved.Only then did he drive them to their original destination, the police station.Since Emma had been detained for investigation over Sigourney's previous kidnapp
When the livestream with the reporter came to an end, Mark's state of mind could be considered rather good. In fact, just the thought of successfully bringing Sigourney down was enough to make him feel particularly satisfied and delighted. He strolled out of the studio with ease, where his secretary was already waiting, and together they got into the car to head back to the corporation.Once there were only the two of them, Mark raised his brows in smug delight."Well? Did you do everything exactly as I told you?""Has the news about Sigourney being irresponsible, indirectly causing the accident at the construction site, already spread across all the media outlets?"Eagerly, Mark asked his secretary, reaching for the iPad to scroll through the news. Yet his secretary's expression grew faintly pale."Boss, I did as you said, but..."That hesitation, that wavering, made Mark narrow his eyes, irritation slowly rising."Out with it. Why are you stammering? Lost your tongue?"He spoke whil
