Mireya’s POV

I can feel my heart slowly sinking as his words begin to pierce my mind.

We’re back to being strangers.

The bond was already concealed. The deal has been made. There's nothing that connects us.

Without looking away, I gave him a small nod. “Yeah. We’re back to being strangers, Azrael,”

He fell into silence. He didn’t say a word; he was staring at me. Then, a few seconds passed, and he stood straight without breaking off our stare.

“Strangers then,” he said.

Mireya’s POV Caius stilled. He stared at Blaire for quite some time then his head turned to Azrael. “Did you agree on this, Azrael?” It took some second before I heard Azrael’s response. “Yeah. I did,” he simply said. I thought Caius would look at Blaire again, instead he glanced at me as if he was making sure I heard everything clearly. Why? Does he want to see disappointment in my face? Does he think I would be miserable just because I heard Azrael agreeing on the marriage? I looked away and grabbed the glass of wine sitting on the table. I drank it straight, letting it sweetness and bitterness cut through my throat. Foolish me ended up choking and cough loudly taking everyone’s attention. Why do you have to make it even more awkward, Mireya? “Are you okay, Mireya?” Aurelia asked, handing me a glass of water which I immediately drink. I keep on hitting my chest until air came back. “Are you okay, Mireya?” Blaire went to me as well, Caius and Azrael following

Mireya’s POV “Mireya,” Caius nudged dragging me back to the present. “Yeah. Yeah. I’m sorry,” I didn’t even realize that we were standing there for too long. All eyes are on us now but I didn’t even notice because all my attention was focused on Azrael and Blaire. “Are you okay?” Caius whispered in my ear. I forced a smile and nodded. “Y-Yeah. I’m fine,” In my periphery, I can see Azrael eyeing me like a hawk while Blaire is smiling. Beside them was my mother who was smiling from ear to ear and Alpha Edward who wore a grim expression. “She has no shame. After rejecting Alpha Caius she will accept the marriage,” “She probably realized that a bastard is no good so she went back to the original heir,” I can feel my chest tighten, not because of the insults they threw at me but because they are dragging Azrael into the narrative. “Do you want me to punish them?” Caius whispered once again as we walked towards King Victor’s throne. “You don’t have to do that,” I sim

  • Reborn for Vengeance: Never Again a Substitute   Chapter 43

Mireya’s POV A smile crept on my lips when I saw ten dresses hanging inside my closet. The Caius that I knew never answered to my whim but I guess he’s really desperate to win me back. “Are any of these dresses to your liking, Lady Mireya?” Serene asked, the Royal dressmaker who used to make all my dresses when I was still the Luna Queen. I have quite a few encounters with her in my previous life but we were never close. She never liked me. She may call me Luna Queen but she never looked at me that way. In her eyes, I am a lowlife she-wolf who seduced Caius for power. I let it slide back then even though I heard her and her assistants gossiping about me. I pretended like I didn’t hear anything and I regretted doing that. “Can you try them on me for me? I want to see what it looks like when worn,” I told her. She raised her eyebrows and pointed at herself. “You want me to try them on, Lady Mireya?” she clarified. I nodded at her and sat on the couch across my bed. I s

Then, a few seconds passed, and he stood straight without breaking off our stare. “Strangers then,” he said. A smile tugs on his lips but there’s something heavy in his eyes. Was it sadness? Was it pain? Was it anger? I don’t know! All I know is that, this is what we both needed. This is the only thing I could do to help him—to stay away from him. “You can sleep in the chamber. I’ll just request a new chamber tomorrow morning,” he offered. I chuckled. “You can make a request to the King now?” I want to slap myself. Why did I even say that? I should have just agreed and let him leave. “Never mind. I was

  • Reborn for Vengeance: Never Again a Substitute   Chapter 41

Mireya’s POVDuring the ride back to the palace my mind was flying somewhere else. My Mom keeps asking questions but I couldn’t entertain any of them. I don’t know what I should do anymore. I don’t know what I should think and I don’t know who to trust. In the first place, I shouldn’t have trusted Azrael anyway. A man who uses black magic and defies Moon Goddess will never be trusted but I still unconsciously trust him. I told myself not to fall for him…But I still did. Things would be easier if I didn’t feel anything towards him. Everything would be easier if he were nothing but a man I made a deal with. “Mireya!” my mother called, much louder this time. I turned to her then my gaze passed through and that’s when I realized we had already arrived at the forest, a few meters away from the palace. “What’s happening to you?” she asked pulling my attention back on her. “Tell me you sever the bond, Mireya,” I can hear her desperation for an answer to end her never-endin

  • Reborn for Vengeance: Never Again a Substitute   Chapter 40

Mireya’s POV I was trying to convince myself that Elder Vitus is lying. Maybe he had it all wrong. Maybe he was mistaken about Azrael…but the way he looked at me says it all. He meant every word. He knows something about Azrael that I don’t. “H-He won’t c-cause any h-harm. He isn’t a bad man,” I still defended. “Maybe you are right about his wolf but Azrael will never use his wolf to hurt someone,” “How sure are you, Mireya?” Elder Vitus stared straight into my eyes. “How sure are you that Azrael will never use his wolf to his advantage?” Words got stuck in my throat. I want to tell him that I know Azrael more than him but I am not even sure of that. Do I really know Azrael? Do I really know him? Accepting my defeat I looked at Elder Vitus and met his gaze. “What should I do then? What can I do to stop Azrael from unleashing his wolf?” Elder Vitus took a deep breath then he stood. His knees were already trembling, and without his cane, he would end up falling to the fl

MIireya's POVHe was foolish. He was reckless...but why do I feel safe now that he is around? "What are you doing?! Kill him!" Caius shouted, holding his bleeding neck. My hold on Azrael's hand tightened. We will die! They won't spare us. I just got reborn. Don't tell me I wouldn't even last a

Mireya's POVThe beating of my heart turned erratic. I can feel cold sweat coming out of my palm. "I…I got lost," I reasoned out and faked a laugh. “I thought the Grand Council Hall was this way," His brows furrowed as he stared. Fear traveled to my chest but I still forced a smile, standing

Mireya’s POV Murmurs filled the room. I saw how their gazes lingered in my direction. None of them looks pleased with my announcement but I acted like it didn't hurt.
